coasterbill
Friendly reminder that there's a webcam. I don't imagine that it will be online for the duration of the hurricane but it exists and it's online now. Also, I'm happy to keep up with the tradition of only bumping this when there's a hurricane because I mean... why else would you ever bump it? bigboy
If it stays on course, the more easterly landfall puts Galveston on the clean side of the storm with wind, rain, and storm surge way below what they saw with Ike. They may dodge a bullet on this one.
coasterbill
Agreed. It's looking promising for Galveston but they're still in for hurricane force winds and a crazy 24 hours.
SharkTums
Initial forecasts from ten days ago said this would be a major hurricane right off the Florida coast. They got one part of that right, and I'm very happy about the part they got wrong!
bert425
Agreed. It's looking promising for Galveston but they're still in for hurricane force winds and a crazy 24 hours. Mandatory evacuation, tho many are staying (it's "only" category 3). my Dad is 45 minutes away in Pearland, and he's not leaving - not any of his neighbors. They're expecting lots of rain tho. CP_RULES
^Aaaaaand now its a cat 4. Still tracking east though, but storm surge sounds nasty, 20 feet! Port Arthur is doomed.
AmyUD06
We should just rename this thread "Hurricanes that hit the gulf" LOL.
bert425
Houston is currently getting nothing but wind (per my Dad). looks like as it strengthened, it turned Northwards, and is going to hit more Louisiana than Texas.
CP_RULES
Does this help? Park tweeted this yesterday: Pleasure Pier (@GHPleasurePier) Tweeted:For the safety of our guests, Pleasure Pier is closed today and tomorrow due to inclement weather. Please check back for future updates! https://t.co/qTM9LRZHIs I believe landfall is early tomorrow morning, and Galveston is currently under a hurricane warning. I’d be kind of surprised if they weren’t closed tomorrow too:
