testtrack321 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 To those in Ohio and who have visited Kings Island/Jungle Jims, this is sad news. The I-75 roadside statue of Jesus burnt down last night due to a lightning strike. http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/dayton-news/jesus-statue-destroyed-by-fire-762245.html
jmicha Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Although sad, I do find this situation funny in a morbid kind of way. I'm not a religious man, but I find this whole ordeal rather ironic. And not going to lie, I really hope they don't rebuild it. It was one ugly statue. I still feel for the church's loss though.

I agree, especially since many more *positive* and actually beneficial things can be done to the half mill they used to originally build it. Like feed the hungry or treat the sick. Not side show attractions. Sir Clinksalot Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I'll just ditto the last two posts. Of course, something a little more than moderately sacrilegious would be ok.
larrygator Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Maybe if you make a statue out of stone or rock it won't burn. Was this thing constructed with paper maiche and cow dung?
dandaman Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 From Wikipedia: It was constructed on a metal frame using styrofoam covered by a thin skin of fiberglass.
testtrack321 Posted June 15, 2010 Author Posted June 15, 2010 from youtube... "he tried to put the fire out by jumping in the pond in front of him but the whole walk on water thing fucked him over"
ArizonaGuy Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 LOL@the "Sad news" reference. I'm sure this is going to be considered more of a tragedy than the oil spill in the Gulf. *sings* Isn't it ironic......don't you think????
KrakenKing Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 HAHA! Sorry, kinda funny. Not trying to offend, but... common, you just don't see Jesus on fire every day.
BelizeIt Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 I think they should rebuild it, but as the 'Buddy Christ' from Kevin Smiths movie Dogma. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddy_Christ.
808Freq Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 ^^^Definitely have my vote for Buddy Christ! The sisters at Cardinal Mooney (Catholic high school from hell) would be very very upset.

VegasCoaster Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Thou shall not worship idols perhaps, though you think seeing as its the same religion that wouldn't follow exactly. Perhaps we can go Jerry Falwell on it and try and see this as a sign that God is angry at...maybe all the anti-gay people or the pedophiles. Unfortunately that article says that they will be replacing it so there goes another $700,000 that could have been spent in the community or on helping the hungry or something actually productive.
808Freq Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Were they worshiping that statue? Gotta think it was more of a marketing tool more than anything else. Even faith based org's need some promoting
PKI Jizzman Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I was in a movie theater a few exits down..it was pretty bad outside that night!

Totally agreed. Something productive would be nice but of course.........some hippocrates need something like this to make them feel better about themselves. "No let's not help the community...this big Jesus statue will make us be better people".
testtrack321 Posted June 21, 2010 Author Posted June 21, 2010 I'm surprised it wasn't insured. "Neddy doesn't believe in insurance. He considers it a form of gambling." - Maude Flanders
