Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I have been reading here for a while but this is my first post. I cannot wait to find out what Holiday World is building! I will be at Holiday World today for the announcement!!! I should totally be asleep right now but I am too excited.

I have been wondering, is it a coincidence that this countdown is ending with the announcement on the 67th day and Holiday World is also 67 years old? Their 68th birthday will be on August 3rd. I believe that Holiday World has made a few of their biggest announcements on their birthday in past years. I wonder if anything is planned for their 68th birthday which is 10 days after the countdown ends? I have no idea. I just keep thinking this announcement is going to tie in with Holiday World's birthday somehow.

This is either a wing rider or flyer. I have two reasons (actually several in two large paragraphs) why I'm not changing my prediction of a flyer.

1. At last check, which was the beginning of the month, The B&M plant was still working on Dive Coaster track . There was no wing coaster track in the yard, and they still have Giga track they need to produce for Carowinds and that is over 5,500 feet worth of track (you can find that dive coaster track here) The last time there were pictures posted, there was red track (which I think is Dive Coaster track), Yellow (flyer/invert for China), White,(Dive coaster for Europe), and Teal (flyer/invert). HW used the color teal in their 66 days at sea campaign photos and would sorta of make sense if this thing is named after a "creature".

2. I have said this before, but what would be a worlds first about a wing rider? There is already a launched wing rider, they all have inversions. You can't market it to the GP has B&M's first launched wing rider. They have no clue who B&M is. The 4D concept has obviously been done before, unless it's a launched 4D coaster. I can't imagine B&M being comfortable doing a launch on a brand new prototype, especially when the launch is a prototype for them as well. Plus, haven't 4D coasters historically costed over $40 million (I know they were different manufacturers)?

I know the pictures and wording in the journal make you think wing rider, but they can also be interpreted as flyer. It could very well be a wing rider, but in my mind, the evidence for flyer is a bit overwhelming. If I'm right with lying down backwards launch, it would be a worlds first, and it would also sort of match the last part of the story in the journal. Think about it, you enter the launch section lying down, starring at the clouds. Next thing you know, you're launched at 60 MPH, much like when the creature picked up the boat. Then you're put in the standard inverted position, where you fly through the course, like the creature is carrying you, and he is taking you to your new home/new world, which is the station. I'm actually starting to think this 66 days journal is a prelude to what the queue is going to be like. If you think about it, we've been standing in line for about 65 days, now we're on the real ride and we're going to go for the ride tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised to see the journal entries posted throughout the queue, with a lot of theming that it explains this story.

B&M's headquarters are located in the French speaking region of Switzerland!

She just said a German speaking country, probably because there are more ride manufactures who are in German speaking countries. Leaves us to speculate even more. People do speak German in parts of Switzerland, right? Hold on, hold on, Bastille Day is a French holiday. B&M headquarters is located in the French speaking part of Switzerland... There's the clue for Bastille Day.

Wait, wait, wait.......

I thought B&M launched flyer...loading facing the rear of the station, have the train put you in the "on your back doggie position", launch into a half pretzel loop or reverse Immelman and continue on from there, But......................

What if this is a hybrid (launched or not) "Wing-Flyer"......taking the flying position, but with Wing Rider vehicles.....Two on each side of the track....for four across....I don't think this has been mentioned yet....that would be a first!!!! Just brainstorming here people!

Same as a wing coaster^ for load capacity, but I am assuming the track would have a structure that could support a flying coaster. Possibly new track supports.....I am sure B&M could hand this off to HW with no problems though....

B&M isn't German. This is going to be a MACK.

But Switzerland speaks a dialect of German as there main language. So it is B&M

That's reaching. It's going to be a MACK. The whole German thing killed the B&M idea.

"German speaking country" is the key

So if that is taken literally, we've got Intamin Amusement Rides based in Liechtenstein and the German-based manufacturers--Mack, Zierer, Maurer Sohne and Gerstlauer, or designed by Stengel engineering for any of the above? But really, Switzerland can be referred to as speaking any of its four official languages, including German, so that doesn't necessarily take B&M out 100%.

Questions. Was the "first" (of whatever)mentioned heavily during the 66 days & blogs. Or was it only touched upon a few times?

It was a clue specifically given away in the blog. You can find it here, but I'll go ahead and post the half of it to save you some time.

I jumped in place and squealed. He told me he was planning on building in ’09 or ’10.

Since I was graduating high school in 2009, I decided it was a graduation present for me.

It would have been a truly unique ride—Dad liked to build really great things, often the first of their kind.

By now, you’ve figured out that design never came to fruition. My graduation present was nice, but certainly not a steel coaster.

In 2010, we did get an amazing first-of-its-kind coaster, the Wildebeest water coaster. It definitely was not what I was expecting, but aren’t the best things always unexpected?

As much fun as it would be to resurrect the designs he showed me that day, he had already moved past that technology and was dreaming of something different by the time of his passing.

With the promise still lingering out there, I have only this to say: if he were here, I’m certain what we’re building would be his dream.

And I’ll add to his promise: what we’re building is going to be truly unique.

The first of its kind.

Edit: just looked at the splashcam. The lights on lift hill for The Voyage are on. These reporters are so lucky! The Thanksgiving section is absolutely lit up. Hope they don't let them ride The Legend, or at least turn off the howling noise at top of the lift. They might find they'll have some unhappy campers (pun-intended) today.

Oh noes... Anyone else having trouble connecting to the construction cam this morning?

No, been on it since day light. Watched the Local News reporter ride Mammoth with Matt. Again Matt made a reference to a " Birds of Pray" show.

Yeah I watched that too. Was surprised to learn that Will Koch's other daughter, Lauren, (I think?) has never rode Mammoth, until today, or at least that's what I thought the reporter said. Anyways, they're not giving away anything else. They're all sticking to the hints they gave in the final blog post last night. "22 million reasons to be happy", "birds of prey". The 22 million dollars isn't even a hint. They've already told us that! Paula needs to take him (VP James) under her wing and teach him how to make some creative hints! Just not too creative. We don't need another person from HW torturing us, or as I like to call it, trolling us.

^Those pages will probably be filled with the same posters who said HW was "too small" to be able to make a 20+ million dollar investment..

I'm not gonna lie, if my guess ends up being right, I might do a collective fist pump, like any other person would do when they're proven right, but I'm not going to get on here and brag about it. That would just be stupid, especially since my guess was literally the last thing I would have ever thought HW would build 66 days ago. I went into this 66 days thinking Mack LSM, and came out of it with a lying down backwards launched B&M flyer. I know I've made some posts explaining why I think my guess is correct, but what do I really know? I have a feeling this day is going to crawl along at a very slow pace..

Just enjoy your day while I'm at Holiday World. I'll do some live posting to try to get your minds of tonight.

LLLLLOOOOONNNNGGGGGEST day EVER. And it's only 7:30 AM here. Watching local off and on coverage... Btw the reporter that rode the mammoth really isn't "local" per say. Holiday World is in the Evansville local TV market. Although it's just as close to Louisville I believe distance wise.
