bgwfreak Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Americans in general are getting fatter. Go to any mall and you'll see the same thing. It's disturbing though to see small children that are so fat they can't walk correctly.
asimowalk Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 It's disturbing though to see small children that are so fat they can't walk correctly. They'd probably be sitting on a bench anyway... I'm like a little over average weight for my height and stuff. I never visit water parks, and if I do, I wear a t-shirt...a colored one...
SonOfBeastSucks Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I don't think its weird that gay people like coasters/ parks. I didn't even think or decide I was gay until a couple years after I became an enthusiast. On the wheigt issue, I think the main reason is the food people eat on coaster trips... fast food, park food, junk food from drug stores.

Marko Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 The best explanation I've heard for the seemingly higher percentage of gay men at coaster enthusiast events is they have more disposable income. Two paychecks plus no kids makes it much easier to afford the enthusiast lifestyle. What I can't understand is why being a coaster enthusiast is such a guy thing in the first place. Apologies to the women reading but at the enthusiast's events I've attended women represent maybe 10 percent, and all too often are in-tow looking less than thrilled with their enthusiast boyfriends/husbands. If single women are scratching their heads wondering where the single men are they should take up coaster riding as a hobby! Sure they'll have to pick through the toothless or near-toothless, the frighteningly overweight and then the one's with bathing allergies, but there are a few hetero diamonds lurking in the rough. It shouldn't be a completely ridiculous idea that a single guy could end up meeting and dating a single woman at one of these events. Mark
FlyingScooter Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 ^ Well, here's one possibility. Men are more prone to paying money on parks, sport events etc than women. Women, even in todays society are still trained to be practical w/money. I can't recall ever having been trained to handle money, but my older sisters were. I think we men rationalize the 'need' to go to parks for that, 'gotta get on that sucker during its first season...' vs. a womans possible thoughts: 'well, it'll be there next year.' Just a few thoughts... ps.' hetero diamonds lurking in the rough.' that line killed me! LOL
AllisonY2K Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 If single women are scratching their heads wondering where the single men are they should take up coaster riding as a hobby! So Robb, when are we going to see that TPR online-dating site?
Guy T. Koepp Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 1) It's not coaster enthusists that are overweight in general. Statistically the entire population of America is getting more obese as the years pass. I'm a sad case. I actually gained 30lbs for an acting role in my very own short film. (lotsa pasta in case your wondering) Then after my son was born I went from going to the gym for two hours a day to a home body. (kids will do that to you) Flash forward 6 years and another child later and I found myself 6'2" and pushing 240. This year I said enough was enough and decided to get back to 180 before my 20 year class reunion. By eating better and getting to the gym for an hour a day I am at the 200 mark and feeling great about my self. I now actualy use my theme park experience as an excuse to work up a good sweat. I go with my kids, push them around in a double stroller and choose rides that are at opposite ends of the park. I pack good snacks for us all to eat and have a great time. 2) I want to thank the gay coaster community for stepping up to the plate and giving us hetros some insight on the correlation of gay men and coaster enthusiasts. I have never thought of the ride experience the way you describe, but it makes perfect sense in retrospect. Blueman, come out of the closet. Say it loud, and say it proud. Scream it at the top of your lungs out of your bedroom window. "I am a coaster enthusiast!" Remember the weight that was lifted off your chest when you came out with your sexuality. It's the same thing. I'm not kidding. I used to go to enthusiast events by myself hanging my head in shame. Then I came out to my wife. I found out that she was totaly into them as well. I don't have to explain the sheer joy I had finding that I was not alone in my geekiness. We now teach our children to embrace their feelings and needs, and to show understanding and tolerance to the things we don't know and understand. We are a much happier family because of it. Guy "I want to be the Richard Simmons of theme park workouts... well, mabey not Richard Simmons. Jake, or that Tony Little guy... Oh! Jonathan Mostow... No, no... CARMEN ELECTRA!!! I'm gonna start my Theme Park Stripper Aerobic workout." Koepp
What Now Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I get don't get why people feel the need to be "in the closet" about their enthsiasum. How many people outside of the coaster community know about the sterotypical geeky enthusiast? So Blueman, go tell your freinds that you are into coasters and maybe they'll be into coasters as much as you. Wouldn't it be fun to go to tons of parks with them?
DenDen Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Speaking as one of TPR's Designated Homos Hey handsome, don't tell them our secrets! We'll have to get the "Gay Mafia" to finish the job. Yet another TPR-homo (We're cuter and thinner than the ACEr Homos!)
GAcoaster Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Yeah, I don't think there are too many members of the Coaster Bears on TPR. Not exactly the Coaster Twinks either, but definitely not bearish
DenDen Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Yeah, I don't think there are too many members of the Coaster Bears on TPR. Not exactly the Coaster Twinks either, but definitely not bearish Aw man! I didn't even know these guys exsisted. thanks for the link!
disneygurlz2s Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Women, even in todays society are still trained to be practical w/money Wow... you haven't spent a day at a theme park with me yet!!! My daughter and I are so bad, and the only thing that keeps us (me) from spending more is that we don't have it to spend. My daughter is at that age where all she wants to do is play the games, which is partly because she obsessed with winning all that damn plush, and partly because she is at that age between the kiddie rides and the big rides. I don't really buy PKI merchandise so much anymore, but if I go to another park, I have to buy something for myself like a t-shirt or whatever. And if I go to Disney...look out...somebody's gonna need to give me a loan!! Shari
GAcoaster Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 ^Ummm.... Coaster Bears?! In the Gay Community, there are men who call themselves "Bears". They are generally larger and hairier men, who like other large and hairy men. They even have their own coaster group.
tracy Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 If I may go back to the original topic...I read once that thrill rides were one of the only ways us fat folk can experience the sort of "natural" rush that athletes get... like the long distance runners that go into a kind of trance when they should actually be passing out. What I don't understand is that if soooo many enthusiests are overweight, why aren't more of the rides designed to accomidate us. For that reason alone, I've never met a beemer I didn't like; even the regular seats are bigger than most others.
ScOtT k Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Jeez, I'm underweight and I'm not gay. I guess I'm not a typical enthusiast! Wait... What has our world come to? Being skinny and straight is considered abnormal?
shepp Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 (We're cuter and thinner than the ACEr Homos!) Actually, I was making use of a guest membership at Gold's, just a-workin' out, when who should appear in the weight room but a certain ex-ACE honcho/pornstar...That dude's got muscles...
bluemen Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 What?! Dish. Now. Please? Just when I was starting to think that there weren't any gay gym bunny coaster enthusiasts! Now there's a sub-sub-subgroup...
NitroJoeC Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 ^Well lucky me, I'm "married" to one of the few. And quite happy, too! :) Joe "yay gym bunnies!" C.
F1shy Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 I wouldn't call myself a coaster fanatic... I mean... I just love riding roller coasters because of the thrill and excitement you get out of the speed and height coasters give you. Ah, what am I talking about... forget it Oliver "Young, Gay, and Proud" Allen
Guy T. Koepp Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 I want to know who the exACE/pornstar is. Cause coasters and porn are my two favorite things in life. I've been trying to find a way to bring the two together for years. Without being painful. Guy "trying to start a new sub-sub-sub-culture" Koepp
GAcoaster Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 I'm curious as well, since I used to work in a club where porn stars regularly performed, I've met quite a few...
