ericm95
^Ooops!!!! Walter and Claude would be ashamed of me for forgetting about Dark Knight! Correction - SFNE only has ONE B&M. True but I still think Chang should go to SFA because they don't have a B&M at least i'm pretty sure SFA doesn't have one
KDCOASTERFAN
^Ooops!!!! Walter and Claude would be ashamed of me for forgetting about Dark Knight! Correction - SFNE only has ONE B&M. True but I still think Chang should go to SFA because they don't have a B&M at least i'm pretty sure SFA doesn't have one They were supposed to install a standup in 01 but KD's cancellation of the flyer due to paramounts voiding the exclusivity contract with vekoma nixxed it as SFA took the ride while KD got hypersonic, which was supposed to go to CGA with them getting a mouse instead that year.X-flight was supposed to go to KI(ironically it did some 6 years later) but we all know why paramount voided the contract....due to stealth's failure when it was at CGA. SFGRADV does not need another coaster at the present time, since 01 they've recieved nitro,SUF,KK,ET &TDK while in that same time SFA has recieved NO coasters period & is the only park in the chain(since AW is gone that doesn't count) since 01 to have gone without a coaster installation when they clearly need one what with KD opening their 25 million dollar coaster this year & with Webber at the helm now that might possibly happen but we won't know for sure either way until something does happen. Speeddeamon128
^Well Dark Knight replaced Chiller & El Toro replaced Viper so they didn't really gain any coasters other than KK or S:UF & if your going back to 01 Nitro. However I think it is a little unfair that SFA hasn't received a new coaster since 01. Isn't SFA supposed to be getting a Tony Hawk's Big Spin next year? deathbydinn
Well the rumored date was wrong as GASM is open and running today.

Speeddeamon128
^My theory was sometime the week after the 4th if it is indeed true but I went yesterday just to be sure. Yeah it only makes sense to keep all of the coasters open during one of the busiest times of the season.

Lenaapple1974
Yep. My friend is there today...she says it is up and running today. I don't know why they would close down just before the summer - unless someone in the park leaked this so that people would come just for the GASM through the summer? But then again, I suppose that winters here can damper the progression of the ride being taken down, and its replacement being put up.... either way, I think I may not make it back before they finally close it. I have not been on it since I started riding coasters in 2005... Just when I decided to do so with the reports of it not being so rough in the front, I found out the news. Oh well. BaMiTsPaT
Win for GASM being open today! Hopefully it will stay that way for two more weeks so I can ride it...then they can get rid of it for all I care! JK I hope the park doesn't take out this classic coaster to put in a stand-up
Hayzle
I found it entertaining that Great Adventure posted a picture of GASM on Facebook saying "I guess that rumored closing date was wrong "
Foxy Roxy
I don't think I've ever experienced more pain on any other roller coaster than I have on GASM. I'm not necessarily glad to see it go because of the history, it was probably among the worst roller coasters I've been on.
thrillrider
As I read this, ESPN is at the park doing a pba bowling event right on the midway. It's on espn right now, and again tomorrow at 2:30.
Coaster Cow
^I was going to mention that! I was just flipping through the channels and I saw BTR, which of course ended up with me watching a solid hour of pro bowling. Oy.
KDCOASTERFAN
Perhaps the reason why GASM is still running is because there currently are no plans to remove it just to replace it with another ride in 2011 & never were? This whole rumor about Chang being relocated there is just a fanboy's wish & isn't going to happen at the present time. Keep in mind that Shapiro made the decision to move the ride to SFGRAM,but now that he's out & Webber is in those plans have obviously been scrapped & we don't know where the ride is going right now....personally I think it should be returned to KK. alpengeist04
....personally I think it should be returned to KK. I agree, but what a waste of money that would be. ...To remove a coaster, just to put it back in the same spot a year later. My guess is it'll go to another park. Either way, it should be interesting for Chang this upcoming off season.

Converging
I say remove GASM, send it to SFA, paint it purple, and call it Bizzarro.
CoasterPrince
Although the idea of sending a 21 year old coaster to another park isn't realistic, I think the SFA folks would be happy to get any coaster at this point.
Converging
Eh, I could care less what happens to GASM--I already got the credit. It would just be interesting to see the actions and reactions that occure when and if it does get moved.
thomas2
Sorry if this already has been asked, but why exactly will GASM close? They aren't replacing it (I think), is it because of high costs or unpopularity?

They aren't replacing it (I think), is it because of high costs or unpopularity? I'm betting on unpopularity. Before I went to Great Adventure, I had heard that GASM is an extremely rough ride, and I kinda thought nothing of it. So towards the end of the day about an hour and a half before the park closed, my friends and I walked through the queue... and uh... no one was there. There were 3 attendants still putting the trains through the cycles, but there was barely anyone on it. By the time we got on it, only 2 other people had joined our group. CardCraze
It's a conspiracy!! Ever since this rumor started spreading, suddenly everybody is sad to see GASM going, andgetting last rides in and so forth.

Nozzy
I was there yesterday and Scream Machine was running better than it has in years. I never minded the roughness, but my friend who was riding once since it was leaving enjoyed the first ride so much that he rode three more times. The park was pretty empty all day though, we rode every coaster, all of which had station waits, with repeats of anything we wanted to without having to get a flashpass or anything. Ka had some downtime early in the day, but was running with four trains most of the day. Everything had max units/both sides except Scream Machine with 2 trains, and things being pulled due to low attendance later at night. El Toro's colorful train actually started growing on me during the day, as the festive color's go with Plaza del Carnavale pretty well.
