michaellynn4
It's been reported that security added a "no bag check" section on the right side of the security check. That'll be a major help.
boldikus
^ I saw that too. As someone who brings as little crap as possible with me, that's a major score!
YoshiFan
That's great to hear they added that, along with hearing that 3 trains are running on Nitro. They normally don't have the 3rd train ready until late April or early May.
Genx24
Just got back from the park. They did indeed add a guests without bags line. Nitro and El Toro both had one train ops, and El Toro's crew was awful. They were averaging about 10 minutes between dispatch. Didn't notice any work being done by Old Country, but certainly near the El Diablo site. Nitro's train (the one they were running, anyway) did indeed has new wheels, but they need to be broken in because the ride was too smooth, if that makes sense. Successful opening day, so glad the season has begun. Edited April 3, 2015 by Genx24

Genx24
Too smooth? I'll take it over the B&M rattle. Sounds like fun It was still a great ride, but it just felt like it was missing a little extra something. I can't really explain it. Maybe I'm just so used to Nitro running with a little edge to it that I was thrown by its newfound smoothness.

I love when a B&M is smooth, idk, I rode Diamondback primarily in the front because it was better in the front for me, and it was so smooth, not one rough patch or shake and it felt like I was flying, and that's how Nitro is, but I know Nitro is better in the back, so if it's that smooth in the back, well I'm sold! That's horrid. How long was the line? I wasn't keeping an accurate time, but I'd estimate it took my friend and I about 60 minutes from when we entered the line until we boarded. Part of our wait however was due to the fact that we foolishly decided to wait for the front row. The crew just didn't seem to know what they were doing. coasterbill
I wasn't keeping an accurate time Well then shame on you... I always bring a high-end stopwatch (the iphone ones aren't accurate enough) and time every single dispatch when I go to any park. Then I put it into an excel document and let the other enthusiasts know. You sir need to get it together.

larrygator
Construction is still on-going on the parks present new coaster...El Diablo All jokes aside, El Diablo is still being built (and will still be marketed as a coaster). The current TV ad running in New York DMA and the e-mail newsletter sent to pass holders both mention El Diablo as a new ride, no reference to it being a coaster. RideofSteel
According to some people over at Great Adventure History the old Music Express that was rotting away in the closed Old Country has been removed. Hopefully this means something will come to the area in the near future, whether it be something for Holiday in the Park or a future ride. Also, I'm pretty disappointed the new ride hasn't been built yet. It's a simple carnival ride. One of the world's biggest amusement parks should be able to have it built and ready to go for the beginning of the season. ESPECIALLY after they saw how disappointed people were after Zumanjaro opened so late last year.
YoshiFan
I'd be surprised if a new ride ever opens on opening day again. With a larger coaster or major ride I can understand but it was the same with Adventure Alley. Sky Screamer wasn't ready and the bumper cars weren't either but there was no reason Deja Vu and Air Jumbo (especially since Air Jumbo was already at the park in storage) couldn't have been ready. My guess is it's for marketing reasons, that way people who visit early in the season will go back for a return visit to ride the new attraction and maybe buy a season pass instead of a 1 day ticket. Genx24
It's been mentioned and discussed repeatedly; Six Flags does not open their new additions with the park. They use construction to entice people to buy season passes to return when the ride is complete. And although it isn't built yet, for what it's worth they were certainly working on the site today. I even saw a piece of the ride structure being trucked into the site on a flatbed.
chickenbowl
I may be late, but the news about the park being run by a solar farm is great! I hope this move is successful for the park and will cause other parks to follow suit. In other news, SFGAdv is definitely due for a large attraction. It will have been 5 years since their hand-me-down standup coaster and it has been a while before that. I can see them spending a relative large amount of money on this one! Mega_Coaster_77
Overall I enjoyed my first trip on an opening day to Great Advebture. I arrived a bit late at noon and left at closing. It rained for a good part of the day but it was not too bad. The crowds were very light today, and the rain really helped scare everyone away. El Toro: The ride is doing great again this year. It was smooth as always and it felt great experiencing that first drop again for the first time this year. The ride crew was awful on Toro today. The time between dispatches was usually ten minutes. I saw so many walks of shame on it today, which didn't help the wait time. It operated with one train all day. I was in the station when they tried to put the second train on, but after running it once, they decided to take it back off again. So many technical difficulties, and I waited 30+ minutes in the station for it to be fixed. I was able to ride it 5 times today, 3 times in a row without getting off. The line was relatively short throughout the day. Nitro: Good ride as always. They ran three trains to begin the day but moved to 2 later on. When I was at the ride, the line was always a walk into the station. The crew was also not doing very good, and was consistently stacking trains. I ended the night with a ten ride marathon without getting off. Also got on the last train of the night second row. My brother was able to go on it 19 times without gettin off. Just goes to show you how low the crowds were later on in the day. C train had its notorious rattle still, so I was pretty disappointed, but the ride is still fun. Kingda Ka: I honestly did not think I would have had the opportunity to ride it today with the rain throughout the day, but I thankfully let up and I was one of the first in line when it reopened. Of course I had to ride from row, and it's a thrilling but short ride.It also experienced a few technical difficulties, which caused me to not be able to ride it a second time, but the one ride I had was great. The crew was pretty solid, and was grinding out the two trains at a steady pace. Batman: In my opinion the most underrated ride in the park. It had the lowest lines of any coaster today, yet I still feel like it is a fantastic ride. It is running good and was very smooth. The intensity is incredible, and continues to surprise me. I was able to ride it 5 times in a row. I could have definitely gone longer, as every time I came back to the station there was only one or two people in the station. After a certain number of rides a break is needed. The crew was fantastic and worked fast. This coaster had the shortest lines of the day. Bizarro: Fun as usual. The line was nonexistent as usual. This makes for a great combo. I ride it several times without gettin off, but as there was no line, I could've definitely continued to go. The crew worked nice here too. Overall a nice ride when you need something different. Superman: This one had no line as well, and I walked right onto the back row for the next train. A fun ride. Love the pretzel loop. Rest of the ride is meh. The crew worked a bit slow, and with only one train running it kept us waiting a few minutes. I could've marathoned it for a long time, but I decided against it as I felt like there were better ones to marathon. Zumanjaro: Almost no line at all. Was a walk on for me Te two times I rode it. The drop is not as good as compared to some other drop towers, but the views are really nice. Didn't ride Grenn Lantern, Runaway Mine Train, Skyscreamer, Dark Knight, or Skull Mountain. I would imagine there was no wait for these either. Concerning El Diablo, I saw them moving pieces of the base and support over to the site today. Overall had a great time at the park. It was pretty much dead today, and I was so happy I could finally get my coaster-fix. The offseason is over!!!
Genx24
^ Zumanjaro was open? I didn't see it cycle once today. Also, I rode C train on Nitro (which was the only train they were running at the time) and didn't experience any rattle, but I also rode in row 1 so I can't speak for the rest of the train. You're right about Green Lantern and Mine Train, both were walk-ons for me.

Genx24
^ What time did you ride Zumanjaro around? I was at the park from opening until 2, and like I said, didn't see it cycle. Now I'm bummed out because I definitely would have ridden Zum if I knew it was open.

YoshiFan
I have always been allowed re-rides at Great Adventure if there is an empty row. The ride ops usually encourage it if there is no line and empty rows.
Genx24
^^ Reading comprehension is your friend. I said El Toro was the one with an hour wait. And he isn't the only person to say Nitro was running all 3 trains so they probably put them on later. And at Six Flags parks, you are indeed allowed to stay in your seat if no one is waiting for that row. Don't call someone out if you don't know what you're talking about Edited April 4, 2015 by Genx24
larrygator
And at Six Flags parks, you are indeed allowed to stay in your seat if no one is waiting for that row. This is not consistently allowed at all SF parks and even SFGAdv has been known to not allow re-rides at times.
