alilstronger Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Hey Guys! I thought I already ask this but can not find my post. I feel stupid asking but I will anyway. Is KD crowded on Thursdays? I am going 8/26/10 and want to be able to enjoy all rides and the water park without feeling too rushed.

I am going 8/26/10 and want to be able to enjoy all rides and the water park without feeling too rushed. Well, I went in the beginning of August on a Monday and the longest wait was around 20 minutes for Rebel Yell. This of course was a result of the one train operation and non-motivated employees.
KDCOASTERFAN Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 ^ If KD gets anything it will be a new show in the KD Theater, Snoopy's Hot Summer Nights (or Snoopy's Starlight Spectacular), and a dismal chance of a new show at the Action Theater... Flat rides? probably not. Flats are something the park needs so hopefully they'll get maybe one or two since they aren't anywhere near as expensive as a coaster. They were taking a survey at the gate this weekend when I arrived & I mentioned the fact that the park is pretty well set in the coaster dept. right now but needs some flats so we'll see what happens.
braztaz Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Hey Guys! I thought I already ask this but can not find my post. I feel stupid asking but I will anyway. Is KD crowded on Thursdays? I am going 8/26/10 and want to be able to enjoy all rides and the water park without feeling too rushed. I went on a Thursday during a heat advisory and I didn't expect there to be crowds, but it actually was crowded. Not Saturday-Sunday crowded, but still crowded. If you go on a Thursday, expect these thing (if they're still the same) -The wait for i305 is just out of the station (7ish minutes) -Dominator (mid-afternoon) is just out opf the station (5 minutes) -Volcano is your longest at about 25 minutes -Flight of Fear's line gopes just outside of the building, so I'd say you got a good 15-20 minutes. -Rebel Yell depends on if they're running both sides, two trains on one side, two trains on both sides, or one train on one side...if it's anything but one train on one side, it's a walk on. Otherwise it takes a good 4 minutes to get each train out of the station (maybe I had a slow crew) -Grizzly and Hurlers walk-ons. -Drop Tower, you usually have to wait for one of the cars to drop, then your good. -As for the waterpark, I'm not sure. Hope this helped!
CardCraze Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 ^ It's amazing the GP fails to realize how amazing I-305 is. I went back in July and I-305 was a 1 train wait or walk on all day. I rode it 6 or 7 times. Meanwhile, Flight of Fear had a wait time of about 20-25 minutes, and Volcano was approaching an hour wait. I think the icing on the cake though was coming of Intimidator, I heard a girl say "It was okay, but they should make it go upside down."

KingB24 Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 The haunt site is up. http://haunt.kingsdominion.com/ We've lost two mazes, gained two mazes, and have received several re-themes. One or two new shows as well.

JJtor Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 New here, 1st post. Iv'e been reading this thread for awhile (since June when I first went to King's Dominion) and I'm finally deciding to join. Don't want to interrupt the discussion in progress too much, so I'll just make this quick. Iv'e been to KD twice in the past few months, and I'm going again next Tuesday. Iv'e rode every sigle ride there except avalanche. I enjoyed them all and I think that KD is my favorite park out of the local parks (HP, BGW, and I anticipate six flags America although I haven't been yet.) I really enjoyed the Intimidator 305, and have rode it 7 times so far, with the new and old restraints. I enjoyed the new restraints better, although is didn't think that the old restraints were all that bad, and the ride was still amazing with both. As I sat in the front seat on the Intimidator, I could see the trims and feel them, which was a bummer but I really don't think that it "killed" the ride and I still think that it is amazing. I grayed out every single time on the first turn, although I really didn't find it to be really all that bad at all, as some have remarked. I don't think that it even dented my ride experience, it may have even added to it. My conclusion on the ride is that it is my favorite yet; and I think that it will be very hard to beat for me. Golden ticket award top 5? Can't wait to go again!!

Intimidator305 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 I was going to wait until tomorrow night to do a full trip report of my two-day trip... BUT I had to get on here tonight to talk about this very weird experience with 305. Today around 12:30 I was the next train to ride in the back-row (one train operations just on 305, rest of coasters were 2+ trains ), and the troubles began... The riders all got strapped in and were checked and "All Clear" to go, they were forced to un-buckle their seat belts and raise their restraints, the riders all got strapped in AGAIN and were checked and "All Clear" to go, they were forced to un-buckle their seat belts AGAIN and raise their restraints. Then the ride-operator in the booth made an announcement to SWITCH sides with the passenger beside you!!! The riders all got strapped in and were checked and "All Clear" to go, and they finally started their engines! WTF is with that?! I have never seen OR heard such a thing. They were forced to do strap in 3 times and switch sides with the person beside them. I asked the ride-op who stands by the back-row queue line about what it was about and she said "Have no clue, but it worked!" Hahaha! BTW, 305 with straps is one of the best rides ever and makes you forget about the trims because you are looking forward to the kick-booty "twisties" and ejector air 3rd hill so much and IMO the best coaster in America... Not even being a KD fanboy... for once. Oh, and today the ride seemed to be going faster than normal because it was flying over the second hill compared to how it usually crawls IMO.
Homeboy23 Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 ^ Sounds like the ride ops were just having fun.. Was the queue full or just a 5 minute wait?

Something simaliar happened when I was there my first visit, it was with the old restraints but it sounds very similar. Not sure if it's the same in your case, but it sounds like what I saw. When the restraints didn't work they tried twice to lock them and then asked everyone to switch, and the restraints still didn't work so they asked everyone to get out and had to run the train around once with noone on it and then put everyone back on the train and try the restraints, which worked. It really intimidated me , because that was just before my first ride and I was next in line, but I had the best time ever on it. And I agree that it is the best coaster ever, and when I sat in the front seat on the I-305 I could get amazing airtime on the second hill, which was totally awesome.

O Demon Avenger Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I think it could have something to do with the first turn after the drop. I believe it has to do with weight distribution on the train in that high speed turn. Maybe a certain percentage of the weight has to be on one side of the train. Just a guess. I am happy to hear it is going a little faster. I rode it back in March before the public when it was speeding away unleashed at 94mph and no trims except the little one on the third hill. In a way I hate I rode it that early now. I experienced something I had never felt before and never felt a drop and turn so intense. It was almost like my hearing left and for a brief second or 3 and everyting went black for a brief moment. The first time I rode it I did not even remember the 1st hill at all. It was like an addiction for me I thought it was cool. I rode it 10 times total in 2 visits. Each time I got off, it was the best feeling, I would regroup and hit it again. Anyway, I just do not know if I can ever be satisfied the way it is now. I guess I will see on the 22nd for the club event.
FeelTheFORCE Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 (edited) Hey Guys! I thought I already ask this but can not find my post. I feel stupid asking but I will anyway. Is KD crowded on Thursdays? I am going 8/26/10 and want to be able to enjoy all rides and the water park without feeling too rushed. You should be fine. I went on Tuesday the 10th and the park was dead. The longest wait I had all day was about 15-20 minutes for Volcano, and that was the first time. It's line got shorter as the day went on. I never had more than a one or two train/cycle wait for anything else. Plus, schools will be close to starting up again. Edited August 16, 2010 by FeelTheFORCE
Homeboy23 Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 ^ Schools don't start here until the day after Labor day.
FeelTheFORCE Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 I know, I have relatives who are teachers in Hampton. My point was that it will getting to the point of being 'crunch time,' if you will, so a lot of parents will be busy buying clothes, supplies, etc. and won't have much time to take their kids to an amusement park.
carolinacaniac Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 ^Believe me, the teachers of the region are getting ready for the new school year too. I was at the school I teach at twice last week to move stuff into my new classroom, and also to organize the room. I am planning on getting back in there this afternoon to finish up so that when we start our workdays tomorrow, I can focus on lesson plans......but the 22nd will be a different story -Gary
JJtor Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 Going to KD tomorrow, and I hope the park isn't crowded, and I'm going to check out the I-305 and see about the trims! Last time I rode it (3 weeks ago) I sat up in the front and could see 2 silver trims (suspecting that they're made out of aluminum) around 3-5 feet long each at the bottom of the first hill. I could feel them, but it didn't kill the ride at all. Hope that it's improved though, but I'll have a blast regardless!
KDCOASTERFAN Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I noticed something. Of all the CF parks KD is the only park lacking a shuttle coaster of any type. There's some construction equipment on the far side of the I305 area(a couple of dozers) that I noticed on last weekend's visit & that can be seen in Feeltheforce's photo TR so I wonder if they could possibly be planning to install a shuttle coaster of some sort over there in the not too distant future? I could picture SFOG's defunct Deja Vu fitting quite nicely in that spot, granted of course it's not CF's style to aqquire used rides from other parks outside the chain but anything's possible. I just thought I'd throw that idea into the mix & see what everyone's thoughts on it may be.
thrillrider Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Define "shuttle coaster". If you are talking about boomerang coasters, not all cedarfair parks have them. Off the top of my head I can tell you that cedarpoint, michigans adventure, and dorney park does not have one.
coasterfreak101 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 ^The Point and Dorney each have the Inverted Impulses (Wicked Twister and (?)Possessed). I don't think MA has one though. But I don't think that really matters at all, I don't think a shuttle coaster is really any sort of staple within Cedar Fair.
