Check out this really cool (and hilariously 80's) news clip from the opening of Hercules. I stumbled across this this morning and it was pretty cool to watch.

Haha that was awesome, thanks for sharing! As a child I was always fascinated by Hercules, with the huge drop and the flat turn over the water. It may never have been a great ride, but it sure was impressive looking!

^^ Oh man. Between the chicks hair and shoulder pads, and everyones western PA accents (that Philly drawl mixed with a southern twang) that video is beyond hilarious. Cool little side report on Lazer, tho.

I'm heading to Dorney tomorrow and was wondering if their ride stations are back pack friendly or will I need to get a loker?

Does Dorney have a no reride policy? I was just on Talon for early entry and had a solo ride in the front row. When we returned to the station, there were 2 people waiting for the back row and no one else in the station. The op unbuckled my restraint and said that I had to exit and walk around if I wanted to reride. Is that normal here? If so, that's really lame.

^ Yes, no re-rides ever. It is absolutely the worst thing about Dorney. I even had a crew member ask a ride supervisor when we had an empty station on Talon and she hemmed and hawed for a second and then said "sorry no, you have to walk around". But... but.... there is no one waiting. :/ We mentioned how at Great Adv they'll let us re-ride til we're dead and they all laughed in agreement but still made us walk around.

If Dorney allowed re-rides then the turnstile numbers would be useless since just about every train has a bunch of empty seats on it when it goes out. I don't know if that's the reason for the policy, but that's my best guess.

Why is the park so much busier on Saturdays? And sometimes Sundays, too? Is it because more people have off from work on the weekends?

That's a question I have always pondered. I wonder what the reason is for this phenomena?

I might make a trip out to Dorney for the first time in several years next month. I just saw that they added flyers this year. How are they? Are they snapable?

Anyone? Flyers are definitely my favorite flat ride so if these are anything like the ones at Lake Compounce or Knoebels I'd be pretty happy.

If you can snap the ones at Lake Compounce then they should erect a statue of you in front of the ride because those things are absolutely terrible. Personally I think the Larson models are complete crap but if you found the Lake Compounce ones snappable I'm sure you'll do fine. lol

I have been on a couple larson flyers. I have yet to do a 180 degree turn, but you can do some light snapping if done right.

Did the Dorney flyers while there for Coasting For Kids and they were a joke. The cycle was less than a minute, no exaggeration. And there was no one waiting to ride after us. Total disappointment.

Speaking of Larson flyers, the new ones at Morey's are awesome (elevated 20 feet off the boardwalk on top of a store), though I more or less got kicked off of them last weekend for snapping (thanks to some help from the ocean wind).

Just wondering, why do some parks not allow snapping?

It's very rough on the cables, means they have to replace them far more often. At least, that's the claim.

I guess that's one way to get a discount. LMAO

Police: Family of 10 tried sneaking into Dorney Park by running by employees

Dorney Park employees escorted Markeisha L. Bostic, 26, and nine relatives into the park after being told the family had relatives already inside who were holding their tickets, police said. Once through the park gate, all 10 ran off to avoid having to pay almost $300 in tickets, records show.

Here's a mini (and I mean mini) TR from yesterday...

On our way to Hershey for the weekend we stopped by Dorney for an hour or so last night to get some rides in. Since we got there about an hour before closing we only had time to ride a few rides but I'd say it was a successful little pit stop.

Since it was a beautiful Friday in July after the water park closed you could imagine that the dry park was ridiculously busy... It was so busy that at one point Hydra and Talon almost managed to send out half-full trains and we were faced with a MULTI minute wait for Steel Force but we managed to tough it out and get on the front seat after 5 long, hard minutes of waiting.

Since we were short on time we decided to just hit all of our favorites in order. We started with Talon and walked right onto the front seat. Honesly I really don't give this ride enough credit, it's a really good coaster. I love the finale of low to the ground, high speed turns.

After that we blasted a few people taking a night ride on White Water landing with water guns and then took a ride on Hydra which was also a walk on. Fun ride as always... Love the jojo roll.

Next we booked it down the hill to Thunder Creek mountain and Demon Drop. I don't know why but I love log flumes at night and Thunder Creek mountain is one of my favorites. I really might consider it the best ride at Dorney... Demon Drop was as great as ever.

Since the lines were so ridiculously non-existent and we'd already ridden the 4 rides we considered "must-rides" we decided to try for Steel Force and Posessed. We got a front seat ride on Steel Force which is really the only seat we ever sit in on this ride. It's very dull everywhere else but an absolute blast in the front. We tried to get over to Posessed but missed it by less than 5 minutes.

So all in all we had a great little visit to Dorney. There's nothing of interest to report but as usual the park was looking great, staff were friendly and efficient and we had a ton of fun. Every time I go to Dorney I like it more and more.

Oh... And we're now the proud owners of a Dinosaurs Alive stuffed animal that my girlfriend has named "Dorneysaurus" and she thinks it should be the official mascot of our Pennsylvania weekend. So... Woohoo lol

Love Thunder Creek Mountain, but I have to give the edge to Demon Drop because it may not only be the best ride in the park, but also possibly the best drop tower I've ever been on.
