Rugged One
On Sunday, Kim and I had the pleasure of visiting what is in my opinion, the hidden treasure of PA breweries. The Selin's Grove Brewing Company in Selinsgrove, PA. Now I've known of this brewery for awhile now but never really looked into visiting because I figured it was just another smalltown brewpub with average beers. Lately though, I've been hearing more and more positive things about it and when it was recently voted the #13th Best Place to Have a Beer by Beeradvocate.com, I knew something was up. We were in Harrisburg doing some shopping, so we figured we'd drive the hour up north and check it out. All in all, this place is awesome. It's built in the basement of a historic stone home and allthough it's quite small, has a real intimate feel, like the place is a big secret and you just found out about it.8) They brew a ton of beers for such a small brewpub and some of it is some real unique stuff. Definitely check it out if your in the area. Heck, you know you'll be in the area. It's only 20 miles from Knoebels. On the way home, we decided to see for ourselves if what we had heard was true. KClingers, our favorite local beer bar was shut down last week and is now for sale. Will it get a new owner and most importantly, will it open again? Only time will tell. Holy crap this place is great! A laid back atmosphere and kick ass beers make this a must visit in my opinion. It's a little off the beaten path but most definitely worth it! ....and finish up with my first pint of one of these new coffee infused stouts. The Grizzly Stout, brewed with Grizzly coffee from the Kind Cafe, located just down the street. This stuff was absolutey awesome. Very heavy on the coffee and I loved it! I sample the excellent Organic Baltic Porter... They don't serve a tradional brewpub menu here, opting for the more healthy/organice/vegetarian route. I had the chicken salad. Kim goes for the Wilder's Hefe. Another excellent example of the style. I started out with their IPA. This one had lots of hops upfront but then switched to a citrus on the back end. Very nice balance to this one. For such a small brewery, they sure brew a lot of beers. 10 on tap when we were there (with 2 more on the way this week) , including two different styles of porter and stout. The brewpub is quite small but still has a quaint, intimate feel to it. As you can see, the brewery is located in the basement of a historic stone home. Welcom to Selinsgrove, PA. Home of the hidden gem that is the Selin's Grove Brewing Company.
PhishyBrewer
Wally, how is the sauce???? I'm always interested in trying new BBQ sauces. The sauce was ok. They are releasing 4 different types of sauces July 1st. We got to try the BBQ, but I really want to try the wing sauce. There's more info at the link below. http://www.anheuser-busch.com/news/grillingseason_061506.htm
PhishyBrewer
Had a nice cold Weiss Ass Lager before heading to bed. I'm shirtless because I just got out of the pool. I'm not trying to compete with Derek.
DerekRx
^Smart move, not trying to compete with me I'm also anxious to try the BBQ and Wing sauces, hopefully I'll be able to find them around here. So yeah, I've been back home for 3 days, and its the 3rd straight day of rain. Guess that means no yard work, just skipping straight to the reward...beer! Nice and citrusy, much better than that Circus Boy crap they tried to pass off as beer I'll start by trying the seasonal HIPA from Magic Hat, thanks to Heath
Rugged One
A selection of the offerings over the last couple of nights. As well as a Saranac Kolsch, which wasn't too bad, although it's flavors could have stood out a little more. Tonight, I had a Redhook Sunrye, which I really enjoyed. An IPA definitely worthy of the Heathface! Last night I had a Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA. One of my very favorites. Extremely hoppy, although I think I may have gotten hold of an old bottle as the taste was a little off.
memphish
I'll take your 'a little off' bottles of Racer 5 any day. Man that stuff is good. Grocery day is a very dangerous day. But often yields delicious results. Hooray Beer! I want to be in Jamaica!
PhishyBrewer
Red Stripe taste like sun tan lotion to me. Anyway... Enjoying a Curve Ball while I place an order for Weiss Ass Beer labels.

DerekRx
So tonight we had a drug rep dinner where nothing was to be discussed. While I wasn't in charge of the location, I was in charge of the date, so I made sure to make it for a time when I'd be back from the UK. The place was one of the better bistros in town, with a nice variety of beer. They're gonna be sorry when they get my bar bill! Do I even still have a liver?? Yeah, now that's what I'm talking about! Our nurse's aid wants one too, so make that three! So sweet in fact, we'll have a second! mmm, even sweeter when its free For dessert, lets start with a $10 bottle of Lindemann's Lambic Framboise Hello, Hoegaarten, would you like to join the party in my stomach/liver? Of course you would! The boys get acquainted Yeah, its finally summertime! Followed quickly by a Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse Here its free, so drink up! First up, HopDevil. Yeah I've got it at home, so what?
Rugged One
Nice one Derek! Can't you disguise me as a drug rep and take me along next time?8) Tonight, I tried the 20th Anniversary Bitter that Rogue brewed specially for Max's Taphouse. For those that don't know, Max's is this kick ass beer bar (70+ taps) located in the Fell's Point district of Baltimore, right down the street from the DuClaw location we like to frequent. Hmmm, I think I smell a future BTR coming up. Anyway, back to the beer, which was really good. I think that this is a slightly tweaked version of Rogue's Brutal Bitter and was fairly hoppy. I dug it! Happy Anniversary Max's! I owe you a visit soon.

USRoadTripper
Sorry for coming in five whole pages late with this question, but I don't look at this thread very often. Derek, were you able to bring the Absinthe back to the US or no? I was under the impression that it was illegal here. -Julie
DerekRx
^Beats me, its Nicole's absinthe, not mine. But I do believe she dumped what was left, since we wouldn't have been drinking anymore of it on the trip, nor were we going to get arrested for bringing some nasty stuff back to the states. Of course, I thought the stuff was way overhyped, we didn't experience any hallucinations at all.
niiicolaaah
^^It was my absinthe. I didn't even try to bring it back. Whatever was left after that night I just poured out. I did save the bottle though.
DerekRx
Finally its not raining outside, so I get to go cut the grass (yay!). Figured before I started I may as well have a brewsky! Good stuff, this'll give me the energy I need to mow the lawn Fordham's Maibock, a gift from Heath
Ed
Lmao. Absinthe is one of THE most horrible things i've had. You can get shots at the bars and it's just.... Eugh who on earth can drink it. Anyway, I was at this 70's night at The Ritz in town last night, drinks were waaay expensive unfortunately, and my camera was busy taking shots of everyone, but I did manage a Double Vodka Lemonade, Two smirnoff ices and a WKD Blue. DerekRx
Finally the stupid grass is short again (for like 3 days). And now its time to reward myself again. I'm only shirtless because I'm sweaty and my shirt is really dirty. I'm not trying to compete with Derek...errr...yeah Ahh, Lagunitas IPA, this'll hit the spot

DerekRx
Tonight starts of the July 4th weekend BACT attack. For my "coaster" part, I did Dorney, as traffic was a little annoying after work. Besides, it was on my way to my goal for the evening, BBW to renew my mug club membership. And what a better way to be welcomed back to American amusement parks after spending 2 weeks with fountains, flowers, and uniqueness than with concrete, trash cans, and plainness. This explains why its called Blueberry BELCH Really good stuff, pinkish red beer is weird looking though Next up would be my free mug of Blueberry Belch, just tapped 2 days ago Great stuff, and it goes fast, especially during Music Fest First up would be the Zomerbier (summer beer) Finally I rode Hydra enough that the Jojo roll teleported me to BBW I had to ride sad and pathetic style in the backrow Again, not only is there no line, there's no one in the station! Hey look, its another one of those rollie coasters, I think its called Hercules or something I would have ridden this, but didn't want to lose my keys, prolonging my voyage to BrewWorks The shoot the chutes ends with a big KERSPLASH! This water is only make believe. You don't really get wet, like you do on the one at Alton Towers I really wish I knew what this coaster was called! No wait works for me! mmm, vertical loop (I have another 5000 archived on my computer) As you can see, the line was HUGE. I love the waterpark next door I'm not sure what this coaster is called In another 100 years this will be historical and Cedar Fair will be forced to remove it Here we are at Dorney. Eh, why not, its free and gives me some coasters to ride while I wait for traffic to go away
Rugged One
Tonight, Kim and I headed down to the Arundel Mills DuClaw for our first "Firkin Friday". For those that don't know what a firkin is, it's basically a 11 gallon cask that holds cask conditioned (or real) ale. The firkin this time around was a special release of "double coriander" Sawtooth. They start pouring at 3 pm and once it's gone, it's gone. Finished up with some regular release Sawtooth. I really like this stuff. I should have brought the growler along. Well we learned a valuable lesson about Firkin Friday. Get there early or don't get any at all! I found another new suprise. DuClaw just unvailed a new beer on tap yesterday. The Kismet IPA. I'm assuming that this is going to be a staple beer for a little while. It wasn't bad. They basically took their Bare Ass Blonde Ale and hopped it up. Kind of a It was pretty crowded inside at the bar, so we sat out on the patio for our dinner. The weather was beautiful. Kim says "I could get used to this drinking beers with my sunglasses on thing." And you know what? It was still delicious. I'm just glad I got some. Cheers! It's a good thing we got there when we did, as I literally got the bottem of the firkin. Look at all the freaking yeast in that thing! Back at the Aundels Mills Mall location of DuClaw for our first "Firkin Friday". They started pouring at 3 pm and we got there around 3:45. DerekRx
Well, SOME of the BACT members may have just skipped to the beer portion of the trip, but I assure you that Ellen and Adam hit Great Adventure today and had a great time, which they will mention later hopefully. I got a call from Adam that he was in the area and ready to drink, so I drove down to meet up with them and hit Sly Fox, originally scheduled for tomorrow night, but we couldn't wait. But then last call was finished and we were done drinking for one night. Don't worry, tomorrow will be a first!... Next was the Whitehorse Wit Crazy Ellen chose to be original though and went with the Royal Weisse, which tasted hinted of banana Adam did the same I went with the Vanguard Anniversary IPA Its 11:00pm and we're at Sly Fox
DerekRx
Ladies and gentlemen, the BACT July 4th weekend meeting has officially begun. You've seen photos of Robb working on the updates from various locations. Well for the first time, we'd like to introduce you to "live" beer thread updates, directly from Victory brewing! Next round coming soon! Let's post! The laptop is welcomed with open arms, and feels at home with its HopDevil wallpaper Heath breaks out the Heathface early with his HopDevil Cask Ellen can't decide if she likes the Mad King Weiss or the Sunrise Weiss better, so she takes both Everyone enjoys their first round I start out with the Sunrise Weiss Here we are at Victory.
