Guest Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I am heading out to las vegas in two weeks I just wanted to know what type of roller coaster are in the area. Thank
andre8 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 They have Canyon Blaster and a credit at Adventuredome. There's also Speed: The Ride at Sahara and The Roller Coaster at NYNY.
Airtime&Gravity Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 RCDB is your friend when it comes to knowing the coasters in a certain area With the exception of Speed, none of the coasters in the area are supposed to be that good.
fisher1095 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 In addition, there's the 'Roller Coaster' (how original) right in the city. Unless you'll sacrifice a credit for a massive headache, I'd keep my distance. It's a TOGO...
atem122 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 ^I never knew the name was changed until now, why did they do that?
Speeddeamon128 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 They have Canyon Blaster and a credit at Adventuredome. There's also Speed: The Ride at Sahara and The Roller Coaster at NYNY. I got denied with Minor Mike. I bought a ticket for it & everything
PAL Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Visited Sin City over the Easter holiday (I'm definitely doomed), figured might as well visit a couple coasters. Speed had recently reopened at the Sahara. Good ride, with two launch zones, an interesting overbanked turn right out of the station, nice and smooth. Passed on The Coaster at NY NY - been there, done that several times, most recently about 5 years back. At that time, it hadn't aged well, and its pricey. If you've got wheels and can stand a 30-40 minute drive south on I-15, a former world leader waits at Primm. Desperado is a hyper, nowhere near as smooth as it used to be, still 225 ft high with decent air time. Its a thrilling spin. Enjoy!
rcroques Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I don't know, Manhattan Exp... er... Roller Coaster was pretty darned good with the new trains when I rode it a few years back. Still haven't ridden Canyon Blaster and Desperado... I was really impressed with Speed though.
ChrisZer0 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Like I said in a similar topic, TRC @ NYNY will hurt you bad, no matter if your 8 or 80. I had a massive headache, shoulder pain and bruising a few days after I rode the thing. Speed is a different story, as its a pretty decent ride...
Sunfire Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I'm usually lenient with roughness on coasters. I actually enjoyed Canyon Blaster at Adventuredome, even though it's got Arrow headbanging. That being said, Roller Coaster at NYNY (I still call it Manhattan Express) is the most terrible coaster I've ever ridden. I can't believe I forked over $14 to be jackhammered for 3 minutes.
sfkk339 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Canyon Blaster is decent for a Corkscrew but will defenitly tell you your still on a Arrow. TRC is absolutly horrible. Don't even bother. Speed though was a preety great ride, it was smooth and was really fast.
CreditCrazy Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I actually find Roller Coaster to be kind of fun, and Canyon Blaster to be the rough one. Then of course you have Speed which is a great ride and kills the other two. Also if you want to count Desperado as a Las Vegas coaster, I'd say it's pretty fun but probably the roughest out of the 4.
KnottsDisneyFarm Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I'm pretty sure there is a Corkscrew in the Adventure Dome at Circus Circus hotel.
ahecht Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 ^Yes, it's called Canyon Blaster, and it's been mentioned several times here. Funny story: Back in 2002 I was on a school trip to Vegas, and we were staying at Circus Circus. I had been told that the only coasters worth riding were Speed and Canyon Blaster, so I made it my goal for the trip to ride both. Speed was easy, as it was visible from out in front of the hotel, but I didn't know where Canyon Blaster was. I went down to the hotel's concierge (under a big "Ask me about Las Vegas!" sign) and asked him which hotel Canyon Blaster was at, and he said he had heard of the ride but had no idea where it was. I asked again at the desk later when another person was working there, but they also didn't know. Imagine how stupid I felt when I discovered that it was right in our hotel.
KnottsDisneyFarm Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 ^They didn't even know there was a coaster in their own hotel! Wow, how out of it they were.
nerdboyrockstar Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I was in Vegas a few months ago and rode Canyon Blaster and The Rollercoaster. Canyon Blaster was surprisingly great.. but I got off The Rollercoaster feeling like I got karate chopped by two ninjas. And I didn't know about Speed.. A google search came up with conflicting reports over it being closed or open.
itnotfair Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 ^Speed is definitely open, and it's a shame you missed it. Best coaster in Vegas. The Rollercoaster is very rough, and it's not a good coaster, but I really like the dive loop. It was also my first and only Togo. Canyon Blaster is very intense, due to the fact that it's crammed into the Adventure dome. I was very surprised at how fast the train whipped through the course. Nice Arrow multi-looper. Desperado is rough around the edges, but I loved its speed and airtime. Besides, it's one of only 5 Arrow hypers ever built!
coastermotion Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 If your looking for a big thrill, go to the "Stratosphere!" They have 1 roller coaster that goes around the the roof, Its not great but if sure to give you a thrill since your like 1149 ft from the ground. There is also many other thrilling rides up there. The RED around the building is the mini coaster. Here is one of the thrilling rides (X-Scream). [/b]
itnotfair Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 ^Sorry man, the High Roller has been closed for a while now. Believe me, it would have been mentioned on this thread long before your post. There are other rides up there, but the coaster has gone the way of the dodo.

chemical_echo Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I actually didn't find Manhattan Express all that bad when I rode it last year. I've been on much rougher coasters than that, and actually found it pretty fun. Is Speed open again? If so, does anyone know if they plan to keep it open until at least September?
