Goliath513
We got into Vallejo around 5pm and hit SFDK for a few hours last night. Today: Finish up SFDK & Taylor's Automatic Refresher Tomorrow: California's Great America & Fallafel Drive-IN I was at SFDK that day as well. Were you the ones with TPR shirts on the back row of Roar several trains in front of us and on THBS shortly after that?
The Bebes
^ That was US!!!! You should've said "Hi" to The Bebes!!!! We should be getting our trip reports up this week, so keep coming back to see how we liked the trip (or didn't....???). You live in Colorado??? Did you go to any other parks in the Bay Area? Also, if you missed our TERMINATION DAY report, check it out on page 26!!!
The Bebes
DAY 1: The Drive & SFDK Sunday August 16, 2009 We gathered all of our travel necessities and packed our ONE BAG on Saturday, so that we could make a quick exit Sunday morning. Our plan: Leave around 10:30am and hopefully have a couple hours at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, then head to Taylor’s Automatic Refresher in Napa, a joint we saw on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, for a seared Rare AHI burger and a bacon bleu burger. We woke up around 9:30am. Dejected and tired, we settled for Jack in the Box and went to bed. Tomorrow: A morning trip to V. Sattui winery, finish up Discovery Kingdom, and then Taylor’s Automatic Refresher. We couldn’t get the internet to work, and it turned out that the entire hotel didn’t have any internet for the night either. Eventually, we got the phone number for Taylor’s to find that they just closed at 9pm. Oh well…. Until tomorrow. Taylor’s Automatic Refresher wasn’t in our GPS and we didn’t have an address for it either, so we headed to our hotel (Fairfield Inn & Suites – Napa) to look it up on the internet. It was almost 9pm. We decided to get our souvenir shopping out of the way, and Lady Bebe posed for a silly hat photo. Time was running out and there were no more shows to be had, so we headed over toward Kong and Medusa. Kong had no line, so we headed there first. Kong was pretty speedy and forceful, and provided just what you would expect from a Vekoma Hang-n-Bang…. Hanging And Banging. Not as bad as T2 at SFKK, but still not a particularly good ride. As we pulled into the station we heard the announcement that the park was now closed. We tried to enter the Medusa line, but we were turned away. Oh well… until tomorrow. Shouka did some jumps in the air. Then swam in circles. Then jumped in the air. Then swam in circles. Then swam in more circles. Then splashed the audience. Then swam in circles. Meanwhile, Merlin the dolphin did some tricks to excite the audience since Shouka couldn’t do it on her own. LAME SHOW. Next up: Shouka the Killer Whale show. As we passed by Boomerang, we saw that there was no line. We hopped on for a quick and painful ride. Hershey’s Boomerang is still the worst, but this one was pretty bad. So would we ride it ourselves???? EFFFF NO!!! Definitely NOT an acceptable amount of wetness The rapids ride had some of THE BEST water sprayers EVAR!!! We stood here for about 15minutes watching people get pelted in the face. Hysterical!!! Lady Bebe would like to apologize to all TPR members. She tried really hard to get a photo of a Camel Toe, but failed. Here’s a Camel Butt instead. Giraffes Mr. Lion Lady Lion Next we walked around the land animals section. There was this super cute Fox. Our first bit of business: Odin’s Temple of the Tiger. The highlight of the show was the tiger swimming. I guess this is supposed to be pretty cool, because there were signs about it all over the park. It actually kinda sucked. Sorry Odin. Speedy says: Mr. Bebe is a poser. The Bebes at Six Flags Discover Kingdom with their 4th souvenir cup of the season. Can we keep it??? Or will it be trashed??? The parking lot was quite full and the park looked to be rather crowded (it was a Sunday after all). We decided our plan would be to catch as much of the animal stuff as we could today, and then get the rides in tomorrow when the crowd is lighter. We hopped into the Jungle Tram. We’ve made it to our first park of TPT:P3. Ole. Discovery Kingdom from the parking lot. Discovery Kingdom from the freeway. 5pm. We made it in great time! …And a moon pie! We had to make one stop on our way for gas & a restroom break…. After about 20 minutes, we see our destination ahead! Wait a minute…. 20 minutes??? It must be a mirage. No….. It’s X2 at SFMM that we are passing en route to the bay area. Until we meet again, SFMM…. The time: 11:12. The distance: 378 miles. Estimated time of arrival: 6:16pm. SFDK closes at 7pm. We are behind schedule (as usual). After a quick shower, we tossed our ONE BAG into Lady Bebe’s Honda Fit, nicknamed ‘The Jellybean’, and hit the road. Part TRES had begun. Ole. SuperShawn
Looks like The Bebe's had quite the fun trip! I'm planning out my own Bay Area Tour soon! Any suggestions of must do's from your trip? Also any word on when you might be attacking, er visiting Knott's?
alpengeist04
Having just been to the park myself last week, I have to say that Discovery Kingdom is definitely one of the hidden gems in the Six Flags chain. I definitely look forward to seeing your Day 2 TR.
coreysjunk
I'm planning out my own Bay Area Tour soon! Any suggestions of must do's from your trip? Also any word on when you might be attacking, er visiting Knott's? If you like Seared Ahi, try the Ahi Burger at Taylor's Automatic Refresher (they have 3 locations: St. Helena, Napa & San Francisco waterfront). Also, Falafel's Drive in for Falafel sandwich & banana milkshake combo. The Bebes are starting a work project that will last til mid-october. Bebe Mama wants to visit and go to Knotts, so a mid-October trip is very likey. Not for the haunt, just a regular daytime trip + some Mrs. Knotts Fried Chicken Dinner! SFDK day two TR should be up this weekend.

The Bebes
Thx Milst! The multi-photo thing is an animated GIF. It is created using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Imageready. There are others like it in some of the further TR's back. Check out Washington DC (hilarious) and Termination Day (subtle) TRs. Here's the "Fresnonian Rap Battle" from 2006: And there's even been a few of them, less funny, but more practical, on the front page of TPR: And then of course some of our awesome Spain 2007 moments... Yeah, it's been a while since we've done these...glad to see other people are carrying on the tradition! --Robb
The Bebes
DAY 2: SFDK Monday August 17, 2009 After eating, we drove down to Santa Clara and checked into the Best Western Santa Clara. It was a very nice budget hotel. Recommended. Tomorrow: California’s Great America featuring The Bebe’s very own FIND THE DUCKY game!!!! And Garlic Fries, which were actually very plain despite their bold look Mr. Bebe has the BBQ Blue Burger, loaded with Bleu Cheese. Taylor’s signature sandwich: Seared Rare Ahi burger. Mmmmmmmmmmm Lady Bebe says that any joint with a sign that says EAT has gotta be great! Hello Taylor’s Automatic Refresher!!! Goodbye SFDK! Tres! Ole! Mr. Bebe crushes a penny for Lady Bebe’s Dahdee. The management at Six Flags says that adults cannot ride Roadrunner Express without being accompanied by a child (hmmm, seems backward). None-the-less, we borrowed some poor children and got our much anticipated credit. We’ve become such credit molesters. Raise your hands if you’re “Sure”. Tasmanian Devil. A fun, inside facing, spinning, giant rocking pendulum. Fun. Onward to Merlin’s Dolphin Show. Sadly, Merlin didn’t take part in Merlin’s Dolphin Show. These other four dolphins entertained us instead. But, like most of the animal shows at Discovery Kingdom, it wasn’t as good a show as we’ve seen elsewhere. This was probably the highlight of the park. Tava was awesome and the show was super entertaining. All of the other animal shows were substandard, but Tava was top-notch! We love Tava!!!! Next, we ventured on to Tava’s Elephant show. What might the bat’s name be??? Batty the bat? Nope. It’s the much more family oriented name, Bacardi. OH, and nice balls, Bacardi! Foxie the fox Porkie the porcupine AAAAHhhhhhhhhH!!!!!!!!!!!! Jocko co-starred with Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore in 50 First Dates and also provided the voices of some dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. I asked for an autograph but he turned me down! Bastard! Let’s go see what Jocko is up to!!! Lame, oversized kiddie ride. Speaking of Cobra…. This floorless had some originality and was really fun. Easily the best ride in the park. The straight drop was excellent and better than the standard banked dive into a loop that you find on almost every B&M looper. And the “cobra roll?” Not really, but it looks like one in the picture. This is a half loop with an extra half twist into a half loop (it doesn’t send you back in the same direction you came). Sort of a cross between a cobra and a corkscrew. Neat ride. We rode a lot! Mr. Bebe shows just how easy it is to slip from the restraints and several small children ran away from the ride. Next up: The B&M Floorless known as Medusa (formerly Medusa:West) Back toward the other rides we didn’t get on yesterday with a stop at the dolphin feeding area. Lady Bebe and I snapped photos of these two dolphins at the EXACT same time. What are the odds? Big Spin is a spinning wild mouse ride where two couples sit face to face. We actually got a really great spinning ride on this and would’ve liked to ride again. The line for Tony Hawk’s Big Spin was pretty long, considering everything else was basically a walk-on. We waited like 45 minutes in line for this one. We rode 4 times. We rode the front and the back twice, switching left and right seats. Somewhat fun, but it rattled Lady Bebe’s brain a bit too much. Upon completion of our four rides, our souvenir cup was gone. That makes 4 souvenir cups confiscated this year. P.S. - The left side is smoother. Next up: Roar. I hid our souvenir cup behind a bench and we got on the wooden beast. “30 Degreeeees!!!!!” Despite the limp appearance, V2 is quite fun and different from the other Impulse Coasters out there. V2. Or, as we like to call it, 30 degree Velocity. We looked at some penguins as we made our way toward the area of V2, Roar and Big Spin. We arrived in the park just minutes before noon and caught the Sea Lion Show. It was fun, but I’ve seen better. Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, and DONKEYS! Oh my! Theme Park Tour: Part Tres!!!!! Ole! Welcome back to SFDK. After sampling some bread with dipping sauces and purchasing a few bottles of wine, we jumped into the Jellybean and headed off to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom for our Day 2 festivities. Yesterday was all about the animals so today is all about the rides! Well, mostly about the rides. Mr. Bebe proudly represents the classy people of Theme Park Review. After you… V. Sattui Winery. We had visited here a few years back during a limo wine tour and loved it. We woke up extra early with a plan to visit a Napa Valley winery before heading to the park. We got ready, grabbed our Six Flags souvenir cup and headed out to booze it up!!!
atem122
Awesome PTR, I love SFDK, I was there on the 27th and just had so much fun, the atmosphere of the place is great, especially for a Six Flags park. BTW, the element in question on Medusa is actually called a "Sea Serpent Roll," similar to rollovers like on Kong and Rock n Roller Coaster. Can't wait to see your next update! traincrossin
The Bebe's are back! Wonderful report guys. It was very comedic, especially that unacceptable amount of wetness reference. Emiroo
I don't mind rare meat, but that is unbelievable. It's raw! Did Mrs. Bebe really eat that and not get food poisoning?
Meteornotes
^I believe that's tuna, which is perfectly OK to eat raw. I probably have raw tuna once every week or so. One of my favorite foods. dt
