JoshAbelsonXiii Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Using the app, Roller Coaster Physics on my iTouch, I recorded the G Force on Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain. The first drop starts some where around 117 seconds Roller Coaster: (Goliath) 12/13/08 12:45 PM Gravity max:3.50 min:0.10 avg:1.19 Photo: Saxman47 ADMIN EDIT: Removed the hundreds of lines of values and replaced with a graph
TheBannedKid Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Couldn't you have put it in Excel at least? It makes no sense to me it's just a long list of numbers.
JoshAbelsonXiii Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 oh sorry, the first number is time (S) and the second number are the Gforce
Crazy4Coasters! Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 ^^ The strangest post I have ever seen in TPR
DBru Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 So Goliath only reaches 3.17 g's? I've heard it was much more than that...
Loefet Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 ^ You don't have to get exposed to high g-forces to feel the effects. A prolonged exposure to 3 g's is a very effective way to get people to black out. Most stated forces are usually dreamed up by enthusiasts, for instance S:UF only pulls 4 g's in it's pretzel and not 5+ g's as most people say.
saxman47 Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 not to be rude, but a list of data like that is pretty much useless. Just copy and paste it into excel and make a simple scatter plot so people can easily see the g-force profile of the ride.
CP_RULES Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 So Goliath only reaches 3.17 g's? I've heard it was much more than that... Yea because an iTouch is what the professionals use to measure Gs... There's some pretty bad discrepancies all over, but I guess its pretty cool, itd be better if it wasn't a long list of numbers...
Loefet Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 ^ Looks valid to me. I'm pretty sure that it's really close to what the forces are in reality. ^^ By the look of the graph I would say in the back half of the train, close to the middle.
brilinjo Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Congratulations, you have achieved the longest post ever. Good concept, but a mass of data made it impossible to make sense of the information. The graph is a great visual representation of your findings, it even looks like a coaster
nowaymang Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 This thread broke my scroll wheel! Interesting data though. Thanks for sharing.
coasterperson Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 does the pretzel loop on tatsu have more G's than Goliath and thats a great list of numbers
TPDave Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I really like these graphs (the natural geek is flowing out...). I hope to get a section up and running in the park index at some point giving similar graphs for as many coasters as we can! One thing to note though, the values won't be too accurate as the device was on your body rather than attached to the train. Whenever the rider is thrown in a certain direction, the iTouch will measure a spike larger than the one actually generated by the ride. The iTouch also only measures in to planes. Great results however and a very interesting graph. Thanks for sharing And thanks saxman47 for making the data readable! Dave
niiicolaaah Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 So if the first drop starts around 117 seconds, where are all those G's before it coming from??
JoshAbelsonXiii Posted December 19, 2008 Author Posted December 19, 2008 ^I think it must be from putting it into my pocket or jumping around because of being scared (wow, the face made that)
WFChris Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Small boys in tights make you endure 2.5 G's while on a lift hill? Bizzare. chris.
sfkk339 Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 ^I think it must be from putting it into my pocket or jumping around because of being scared I like small boys in tights. If I may ask....WTF was that?
Wes Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 ^ He likes small boys in tights, what else is there to say?
JoshAbelsonXiii Posted December 19, 2008 Author Posted December 19, 2008 wow, the "X" "D" face did that
