Josh Linn Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 ^Two things: 1. I have to lob this pass a little more than I'd like to because I got Lamar Odom guarding the pass. 2. I didn't realize Ariza was so quick. No excuse for #2 though. As a now former competitive basketball player I really can't find a good reason why he made that pass. Not only was Ariza on him, but he wasn't even THAT open. He still had like 2 more seconds to inbound the ball, wait for Billups, Melo, or Smith to pop back up, or (I'm not sure what their timeout situation was at the time) call a timeout and draw something new up. It was just too risky of a pass to make at that point.
Bolliger&Mabillard Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 Just found this "funny"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2B0KHoELug
themeparkman25 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 For each one of these three delicious cookies, there is an equally delicious NBA championship ring. That commercial and the one with James walking around chalking everything is pretty funny. I don't quite get how the will make me want to buy Nike though.
coolhandluke Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 ^Probably similar to the way all those Super Bowl commercials make you want to get those products...er... It's more just something that gets their name out there. You remembered who the commercial was for, didn't you? I'm from Ohio, so I like the Cavs. Thought I'd throw that out there before anything really happens, for better or for worse. Yeah, they haven't really played anyone serious yet, but at least they've won by the proper margins. I'd be much more concerned if they hadn't won by double digits each time.
Mechanic Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 That was a great game tonight. The clutch shots at the end were epic. I really don't have a dog in this fight, so whichever team wins is fine with me. I just love watching intense close games like that.
Homeboy23 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Ya that was a good game. Instead of giving up a 15+ lead like they have been all playoffs long, Orlando actually came back from the same deficit.
JT3000 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 "The King" is in over his head. He's a great player, but his backup ain't gonna cut it (even if it includes the zebras.)
Sir Clinksalot Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 That last shot off the jump ball almost went in. I love LeBron, but he's gotta get some support. Orlando definately has the deeper team. It's easy enough to get past Atlanta and Detroit, but really, when it came to the top teams in the league this year (Orlando and the Lakers) the Cavs didn't do too well. It just reminds me of pre-1991 Bulls when Jordan would consistently almost single-handedly get them to the playoffs, and once in awhile into the 2nd and 3rd rounds. But when it came down to it, until Jordan had Pippen and the rest of his supporting cast, he couldn't do it. I really want to see Kobe vs. LeBron in the finals, but more than that, I want to see the two best "Teams" there. And that may just be Lakers vs. Magic.
BeemerBoy Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 It's only game one. As "average" as Lebron's crew is, it still took everything Orlando had, including some clutch 3 pointers, to barely hold on for the win. In reality, Lebron's teammates don't have to score on pace with him.....just play better defense. Heck, just watching him plead with them going into the timeout late in the game last night asking for "just one stop" is all you need to know.
Movieguy Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I've been an Orlando fan ever since Shaq joined them, and have been ever since he left. GO MAGIC! Though, I have a feeling it'll be Cleveland going to the finals. Like you've all said, it was a close game, and I can't help but shake the feeling that the refs are going to try and turn the series in the Cav's favor (remember Phoenix and San Antonio a couple of years ago?). Because, we all know that LeBron James in the Finals means even bigger ratings...
larrygator Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I love LeBron, but he's gotta get some support. Orlando definately has the deeper team. He'll get support. I can not agree that Orlando is a deeper team, especially without Jameer Nelson.

I can not agree that Orlando is a deeper team, especially without Jameer Nelson. How so? The Magic's bench scored 25 points in game 1. Cleveland's scored just 5. The Magic also have two starters, outside of Howard, that are clearly better than Cleveland's 2nd best player (three if Jameer were playing.)

Ok, lets not get crazy, I understand you are a Magic fan which is cool. There is no player other than Dwight Howard as good as Mo Williamson the magic. Its not even close. I'm not a fan of either team by the way.
Homeboy23 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I would say Lewis and Hedo (I'm not going to try to spell his last name) are on the same level as Williams.
bigstevet07 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 They are as good of shooters as Mo Williams, but they don't have much else.
Bolliger&Mabillard Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 ^Neither does Mo Williams. Though this is only game 1, an not much can be said about the series after game one, I will say this. I don't think it's fair to say that "Orlando had to give everything they got" to win. Also you hear "The Cavs spent 8 days off from being so 'dominant'". Blah, blah, whatever. Truth is, Cleveland played their style of basketball, on their terms. Orlando played theirs. It just so happened that Orlando happened to close the game better. I just hope for Cavs' fans sake that they don't have to go to the sunshine state with a 2-0 deficit, or this series may be over quicker than a lot of people thought, and not by who you expected.

I'm not a fan of either team by the way. Watching basketball games is more fun with your eyes open. It doesn't take any bias to see that Williams doesn't measure up to Lewis or Turkoglu. The only reason he was even an All-Star is because Nelson (and several others) got injured. Comparing 2nd options: Williams PPG: 15.0 RPG: 2.70 APG: 4.6 EFF: + 12.56 Lewis PPG: 20.0 RPG: 6.20 APG: 3.2 EFF: + 19.50 Not even close, really. Mo only averages more assists because he's a point guard. Rashard dominates in every other category.
Hercules Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 May I ask why you are comparing a point guard with a forward?
JT3000 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 They're the 2nd best players on each team (with Nelson injured.) Hence their relevance.
Homeboy23 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 They are as good of shooters as Mo Williams, but they don't have much else. Neither does Williams. When your point guard is averaging over 2 assists less than the leading assist guy on your team, that is saying something. I don't care that its LeBron. The point guard should be getting the most assists, or somewhat close to it.
JT3000 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 ^ Turkoglu, another small forward, averages more assists than Williams as well. Hell, he had 26 in the past two games! Obviously he can do more than shoot.
coolhandluke Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Statistically, Nelson is essentially even with Mo in the pts/reb/ast combination. Since everyone here seems to be obsessed with stats, I thought I'd just throw that out there. Nelson is actually 4th on Orlando in that regard. And based on the way Turkoglu and Lewis have been playing, I'd agree. And about the bench and team depth, Cleveland's outperformed Orlando's in the regular season in points and rebounds (Orlando has more assists, while blocks and steals are basically a wash). In short, I don't think I'd base either team's perceived depth based on Game One. Bolliger&Mabillard's suggestion is good advice.
chmilo24 Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Haha the Lakers lost. But if they can get to the Finals and lose to the Cavs I will be $100 richer --Chris
Mechanic Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 The missed call on the obvious violation on the jump ball was pretty tough to take. Props to Denver for hanging tough and pulling it out at the end though. They fought hard to get back into contention. Both of these first 2 games have been great to watch. It should be a good series going forward.
themeparkman25 Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 JR jumped in when he shouldn't have, but you can't tell me that the game was called fairly for either team. I mean, a few of Dante Jones' fouls seemed to be poor decisions and that double tech was stupid. So yes, though I agree that they did miss the JR foul but I also have to point out Lakers got a couple ridiculous calls in their favor as well. Just the beauty of the NBA. I don't want to be coming off as arrogant because my team won, but there have been blown calls everywhere during this series, for both teams, and a lot of the other series as well. That is just my two cents at least.
