robbalvey Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Hey everyone! Turns out that this Saturday I have to go on a trip "Around the world" to show off the latest game I'm working on. Because of the way schedules work it turns out I'm going to be in the UK from 11am 28th July to 6:45 29th July which is when I fly in and out of Heathrow. I was thinking about going to Chessington on the 28th from about 1pm - closing, and to Thorpe on the 29th from 9:30am until about 2:30pm (which is when I would need to leave for the airport). Anyone in the nearby area feel like meeting up with me during that time? And can anyone suggest a place to stay that might be close to one of those parks? (also if anyone wants to offer a lift from the airport to the parks, I wouldn't refuse that either!) Hope to see some TPR members in the UK! --Robb
SharkTums Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I would just like to mention that my husband is leaving me ALONE in California, with Earthquakes, and a dying from cancer soon rodent to go get credits! I know it's for work, but I'm still allowed to be somewhat bitter...right?!!? Oh well, hopefully non-German Tom, or some of the other awesome UK people we met up with can show Robb a good time (but not that good!) I'll miss you sweetie! (a little bit at least) Elissa "keeps repeating to myself 'it's only two credits, it's only two credits'" Alvey
robbalvey Posted July 18, 2005 Author Posted July 18, 2005 ^ But don't forget I'll probably still be able to get to that Vekoma Roller Skater in Lisbon and to Ocean Park in Hong Kong also! --Robb "Looking at about 5 credits or so..." Alvey
Cerberus Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Well, well, well… Hmmm. I think might just have to slip by Chessington that day. I'll take a camera and dozens of spare memory sticks. The internet needs more photos of Robb Alvey, and I feel it is my duty to provide. You wont see me though. Ohhhh no. I'll slip amongst the crowds like a... part of the crowd! Be prepared.. bwua hahahah... (Uh, yeah, have fun! If I'm there, I'll say Hi) Cerberus
zaneymon Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Robb you should bye Elissa a big present for when you come back for aying sorry for leaving you in CA
Cllins Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Unfortunately I will be chained to my desk at work for both of those days. But have a great time at the parks. Will have to catch you in the UK next year. Nick
Ed Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 http://www.premiertravelinn.com/pti/textSearchRefineAction.do?text=qaspoi%3Achessington%3AKT9+2NE That's the Chessington Travel Inn. I would like to go.. But i'll be in Paris then. Yay Disneyland & Parc Asterix! Have a fun time.. And prepare for Chavs.. Oh, and incase you don't have chavs: They basically go round smoking, spitting and nicking cars.
CoasterCrazy88 Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Wow!! What an amazing opportunity for Robb! And remember Elissa, I am here for you. If there is anything you need, don't hesitate to contact me. I'm only an E-mail away. Antonio" Your Beach, B&M's and BBQ boyfriend" G.
Richard Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 hey I'll join ya for the Thorpeness, I'm gonna be in London round then but coz I'm not from there I dont know the area that well so I dunno about acommodation. Cept for what Ed already mentioned about the Chessington Travel Lodge.
Ed Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Oh I wouldn't bother trying to get too much footage either. The park's will be packed because the schools have all/nearly broken up for the summer. Also don't expect Slammer (Sky Swat) to be open.. It's been crap this year. (Really really bad reliability)
robbalvey Posted July 19, 2005 Author Posted July 19, 2005 ^ Well, I will be at Thrope before opening at 9:30 and hopefully run to Nemesis Inferno. After that I'm not sure what else I will do! Are they still doing that Fast Pass system for Colossus? --Robb
flo29 Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I just came back from a UK-trip last week. The parks were all packed with school-kids. All Tussauds-Parks offer Fasttrack-Tickets. At Thorpe the Fasttrack-4-pack for Colossus, Nemesis Inferno, Tidal Wave and that Log Flume worked great for 4 pounds extra. They now have single rider entrances to Nemesis Inferno and Rush, so that even on a full day you will not wait more than 5 minutes for a ride!
Jak Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I might be able to meet you at thorpe or chessington, At the moment I'm just organizing it with my parents.

(a little bit at least) Elissa "keeps repeating to myself 'it's only two credits, it's only two credits'" Alvey If Thorpe Park is involved, of course it won't be that good! But it's still two credits more for the count! Non-German Tom certainly can show up - I just did a shift swap at work so I'll come down on the Thursday after work and meet Robb on Friday. I've still not been on Slammer or Rush so that'll be something to look forward to. ^ Well, I will be at Thrope before opening at 9:30 and hopefully run to Nemesis Inferno. After that I'm not sure what else I will do! Are they still doing that Fast Pass system for Colossus? --Robb They've replaced Fastrack with an upcharge Q-jump ticket. As said above You pay about £4 for the privilege of jumping the queue once. Disgusting.
Kaentae Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Thorpe will be packed. However the park does have alot of single rider queue's. But towards the end of the day, so it won't bother you, people start noticing them, and they get longer. It really does suck that they got rid of the fast track for that crappy other system. It also disrupts the single rider queue's, and causes havoc on Nemesis inferno, with people not knowing where to go. I might pop in to say or or something. If you're lucky Stealth's track will be there by then, however I doubt it...
robbalvey Posted July 19, 2005 Author Posted July 19, 2005 ^ There is a thread for that: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17664
blackcurrent Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Rob, who you flying with. I work at Heathrow. MIGHT be able to sort something out.
Fry Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Darn, I'm going down on the tuesday and won't have the cash to go again. Ah well, next time. Robb, word of warning, Colossus has not aged well at all, prepare for lots of head banging.
blackcurrent Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Just got back from ThorpePark. Placre full of CHAVS and it's cold. Place was packed full yesterday but empty today... I guess you dont need any help Rob as you havent updated the thread
Real Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I love you Brits and your "chav". I still havent had someone explain what kinds of people they are (except for earlier) and seems like its a given that no one likes these kids?! Makes it seem like Robb needs to wield a weapon to make it around the park.
CoasterFanatic Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 How do you fit 100 CHAVS in a phone booth? Paint 3 Stripes on it!
robbalvey Posted July 22, 2005 Author Posted July 22, 2005 Looks like I've got everything sorted out. Picking up my rental car on Thursday morning, visiting Chessington on Thursday afternoon, Brighton Thursday night, then Thorpe on Friday morning until about 2pm. Thanks again for your help and maybe I'll meet up with a few of you next week! --Robb
jonathan h Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 Ah, slight change of plan. I was going to Thorpe This sunday and then enxt sunday but due to certain cicumastances I'm now going on Friday! Would be really cool to meet up with you Robb. I know I don't post much on here but meeting up with other coaster enthusiasts rules!
