roasted_marshmallow
Hey all! My sister is taking her family and I to Southern California for Halloween this year. We'll be there from October 24th until November 3rd. I'm just wondering what Halloween themed goodies will be happening at this time, what are the best places to go for Halloween in the area, and whether or not TPR has any events scheduled around that time... You are the trip planning masters, help me out! I did do a search and apparently some of you went to Knott's Berry Farm for Halloween last year and it was okay... Is there anything that is a "Do Not Miss" event? rm
Vffreak07
Yeah just Knotts.
Big Mike
Little Roasty!!!! You are going to miss me by less than two weeks as The Big Mike Road Show 2008 visits California OCT 3-12 After talking with you for two years, we still need to meet and celebrate the WINGS Stanley Cup Victory!!! hehehe Feel free to arrive earlier if you can Peace, Big Mike
dpxtreme
If only you were going to be up in NorCal to hit up CGA's brand new Haunt.
Rollerman87
You've got four haunts to choose from down here, each offers a little different taste. I've heard the USH HHN (hope you understood that) is getting better and better, as I'm hearing SFMM's Fright Fest is as well. I'll probably do Knott' this year, but, it's getting kinda lame. I'd say wait a little to see what each haunt has to offer, then decide.
Wes
Universal Hollywood puts on a pretty good Halloween Horror Nights. It's not the same scope as the Florida one, but it's still relatively new and growing (after being absent from USH for many years).
thrillgeek
^yeah I've heard that Universal puts on a much beter halloween event that at Six Flags. I'm not sure about Knotts though.
robbalvey
I would make sure to hit Halloween Horror Nights at Universal to get your "Halloween Fix" in. Other than that, just hit Disney, Magic Mountain, and maybe Knott's if you haven't been before. No TPR events scheduled, sorry! But if we are around we'll be more than happy to try to meet up! --Robb
Bolliger&Mabillard
I hear shipwreck at the Queen Mary in Long Beach is ubercool. The ships supposed to be haunted for real so they market the hell out of that come October.
dino
^ Yeah I've always heard that the Queen Mary event is pretty good, even though I've never been there myself. I've gone on the Queen Mary when it's not Halloween and that place it creepy enough, so I imagine the mazes are good. Plus they have a night club/dance party thing after you do the mazes. As for the other parks, I would say hit Universal. Knott's if you haven't been before. (pretty much what Rob said)
Jew
Shipwreck has the mazes in the ship and absolutely nothing else. The other mazes are REALLY bad. I would say HHN and Knott's are the two "must do" Halloween attractions. If you can, avoid Fri/Sat/Sun of that week. That last week is typically the busiet weekend of all at both parks. robbalvey
I did Shipwreck once and it was total crap. Granted that was many years ago, but still. I would reccomend HHN as the #1 Halloween event in So Cal and the Knott's event a distant #2. --Robb
socalMAN123
Yeah, there's Haunt and HHN. I haven't been to HHN yet, but from what everyone says, it's easily the best Halloween event in Socal. Haunt is pretty awesome too, so defenitly go there also. At Haunt, if you're going on a Friday, a Saturday, or a Sunday, there is this neato thing called the Pre-Scare Dinner. The food is pretty tasty and you get into the park 30 minutes before opening. So take advantage of that if you go to Knott's. ---Brent
Jew
^The pre-scare dinner is every night. I would recommend purchasing it. That way you will be able to hit a few mazes/attractions before it gets insane.
roasted_marshmallow
Thanks for everyone's advice! Sorry Big Mike! Flights are already booked! We'll have to meet up next summer to celebrate the Flames victory! I shall be taking all this info into consideration! I'm looking forward to this trip! It's a shame there aren't more wooden coasters in the area... they are my fave.
DegoRed
You must do Halloween Horror Nights at Universal. Granted, it doesn't offer as many mazes as Knott's, but with Universal, it's quality over quantity. I heard rumors they are adding one or 2 more mazes this year, and at least another show. Like others have said, it doesn't stack up to Orlando's version, but it's the best Halloween event out here on the west coast. Knott's also looks to be a little more promising this year as well, so if you have the time I would definitely do that as well. SFMM Fright Fest....well every year I keep hearing bad reviews so I've never bothered going, but now with the new management, I'm curious to see what they do with the event. Plus if you go to the park during the day, you get to stay for Fright Fest so at least it's not separate admission. Queen Mary's shipwreck. It's been a few years since I've been to that event but like Joey said, the mazes on the ship are really the only somewhat decent ones. And I think there are only 3 or so of those. Only advice I have like others have said is avoid Fri and Sat nights
Rollerman87
^Agreeing with HHN and Halloween Haunt, and I'm hearing Fright Fest is getting way better, but Shipwreck is good as well. There are like 6 mazes on the ship alone (but some are hard to find). The ones outside do suck, but the ones on the ship aren't bad. But yeah, hit HHN and Halloween Haunt if that's all you have time for. And don't go on the weekend, like everyone has said. I've heard the best night to hit these things is actually Halloween, as long as it doesn't fall on a weekend.
The Cheat
Haunt at Knott's is always pretty dead on Halloween.
