Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread

p. 337 - New Six Flags Hallowfest information!

Recommended Posts

I visited last Friday (8/13), and it was my first visit ever to SFA, as well as to any Six Flags park in general. I just have to say, I didn't really enjoy it. Batwing and S:ROS are pretty much the ONLY two rides that make me want to come back, and they're still not that good. I found that the park was very rundown; paint was peeling from almost every building and ride, and it just wasn't a "pretty" park. However, the staff was very friendly; we did not have a problem with that. On several rides they were giving high-fives and all. The biggest problem I had with the staff was their terrible operations. We waited nearly 45 minutes for Batwing (which was only running one train) and the line wasn't very long. They had a very small switchback just at the entrance and that was it. They were only dispatching trains once every 7 minutes or so. But anyway, quick ride reviews:

Batwing - Despite the long wait, it was my favorite ride at SFA. My first ever flying coaster! I would love to see one at KD or BGW.

S:ROS - Amazing airtime, but really short. Also surprisingly fast.

Joker's Jinx - More intense than FoF, but I still prefer FoF.

The Wild One - Painful. Perhaps the roughest coaster I've ever ridden.

Roar - It was alright, not as bad as it looks.

Mind Eraser - CLOSED It would've been my first SLC.

Renegade Rapids - What a waste of time. You don't even get wet! It's more of a quick and (somewhat) relaxing ride.

Shipwreck Falls - One of the best water rides I've ever ridden, actually. We got SOAKED. And I mean, not the kind of soaked where you dry off in an hour or so, we were truly drenched. After the seven hour ride back (thanks to traffic), I was still pretty wet.

My other big complaint about the park was the food. We ate at Johnny Rocket's.... UGH. It was just plain bad (and a very overpriced $55!). We got two burgers, chicken fingers, two sodas, and a milkshake. How that comes out to $55 I do not know (especially when it's terrible food).

I mostly agree with you. I live about 45-50 min from the park and used to get a season pass every year. This was the first year I did not in 6 years. The park is falling apart. They put a lot of pride into the water park and neglect the dry side it appears. The park it self is pitiful. They have taken so many rides out over the years and have not put a majoy ride back in years! The last coaster they built is Batwing. The operations have always been terrible with employees acting like they could care less about their job or the happiness of the guest. They are very slow with checking restraints and are more worried about what is going on in each other personal lives or flirting with guest.

I will disagree and state Wild One is really smooth. Also pls keep in mind I have not been to the park this year and I have heard it is a different atmosphere with the employees acting like they have sense.

The only reason why they invested so heavily in the waterpark,at the expense of the ride side is because the waterslides are far cheaper to buy & install than any flats or coasters....SFI's just gotta save that money for SFMM,SFGRADV & SFGRAM after all & this is why I stopped going after the 07 season after getting season passes to this park every year since 98.

Was down in MD visiting friends this weekend and after making a quick stop at American Dream on Friday on the ride down (threw a couple pictures on FB), I started the ride back with a stop at American

Wow. It is hilarious that Six Flags America is opening a whole month early, and BGW is now year-round, and Kings Dominion isn't opening until MAY? I think I'll join Coasterbill in laughing at Ced

Well I was there this past Sunday; temperatures were about 45 degrees which kept the crowds minimal. Everything (except for Ragin Cajun) was one train operations. Early in the season, I was surpr

So I just went today for the first time in a couple months. Wild One was smooth as ever, but Roar was rougher than I've ever felt it before...usually it's fun and very rough, but this time the roughness took most of the fun out of it. Realllly chewed up the track and shook us all over the place. For those who have been on it, you know the last turn is generally the roughest. Almost every pullout felt like that last turn today. Too bad.

With SFoG announcing their new coaster I figured I would see what I could get out of SFA through their facebook page about what, if anything, might be happening next season.

Me - "With Six Flags Over Georgia announcing their new for 2011 roller coaster today - any chance we'll hear some good news about next season from you as well?"

SFA - "Well I'm not going to deliver any bad news about next season... Today? yeah - not so much..."

So, with no BAD news coming, at least that should mean they won't be announcing the park is closing or something.

Check it again,I was the next person to reply to your post there as I was just on FB a few minutes ago.

I'm sure it's not a coaster as so far SFOG & SFNE announced their new coasters for next season on FB today & if SFA were in the running they probably would've done so by now as well.My best guess is they're getting the shaft as usual.

Can't believe that six flags new england would build the dark night like three years after the first two failed miserably. you would think they would've learned from their mistakes. jeez the only truley good addition so far is the euro fighter in georgia. Even Chang at Great Adventure could've been much better

SFA's response - "Some people are SO pessimistic! Lol."

Either way I'm not getting my hopes up, but I hope something is coming.

The first 2 failed miserably? According to who?

Dark Knight never really "failed". It's just not as well-received as it could've been because of the hype.

So far...

SFOG

SFGAm

SFGAdv

SFOT

SFMM

are all slated for something in 2011. I honestly did not expect SFOG, SFGAm, or SFMM to get anything next year, but it seems that SF's been throwing curveballs left and right. Right now it's only a matter of time before the rest of the parks announce their anniversary addition and SF has said that they would extend anniversary additions to 2012.

** Heck... A lot of parks have been throwing curveballs lately. I didn't expect half the parks that are getting new additions next year to get additions. **

SixFlags:

@coasterquazi Sorry man. Still going to be a great season but I haven't heard of anything new coming there for 2011.

On their FB I got the same response....SFA get's the shaft again.Well screw them I'm going to KD as they get new rides on a fair basis.

I would like to see PG county sue SFA & SFI for not living up to their promise 11 years ago to improve the park & perhaps see the county take over management/operations as well & turn it into a city run park much like how Glen Echo used to be.

Ugh, keep DC area politics, let alone MD politics out of the park. That would somehow manage to make things a million times worse.

Whatever, I'll get a Six Flags pass to go to SFGAdv, SFOG, and maybe another park or two next year, but I'm not sure I'll waste my time going to SFA more than once simply for nostalgic reasons to see the park again and think about the good times I had their before they eventually probably close the place when real estate picks back up again.

What a massive waste.

Honestly, two mazes, a train ride, and a show or two? I know it's only Six Flags America but even they can do better than this. Most of this event seems geared towards kids, which I find somewhat dissapointing .

^It's more than before. I'm not sure that there was a maze last year, with the loss of Brutal Planet and the burning down of the haunted house next to Roar. And they must've upgraded the train ride - last time I rode it during Fright Fest, it only stopped back in the woods and then kept moving.

At least they're heading in the right direction...it's just taking a while to get there.

I wouldn't feel safe at SFA at night. I didn't feel safe there during the day, let alone at night. Plus I'd rather spend time at KD's Haunt since I know that's good.

I agree,KD's haunt is many times better....plus their ride lineup outdoes SFA's any day.

Do you come here just to express your hate for SFA? Both of the parks have very good coasters, you don't have to constantly remind us of your extreme inner hatred for SFA. I think we got it the first few hundred times you said it.

As was said, its more stuff and slightly better sounding than last years haunt, at least. I'll probably swing by for an afternoon to get some final rides in on SROS and Wild One at least, not sure I'll bother with any haunt stuff.
