verticalzero
Hey everybody! This thread is simple! Rather than having a million little threads about everything that goes on at Dreamland, Margate UK, this thread is designed to consolidate it all into one user-friendly thread. Feel free to use it to post updates, trip reports, questions, comments, and of course, general discussion. For pictures and videos of the park as well as past updates, see TPR's Park Index Page. Official Park Website Below are some links to past updates from the park, you may be interested in. Fallen Heretic
Strange, I was just thinking the other week how I would like to see an amusement park museum with classic rides of yesteryear. I do hope this gets off the ground. It could be like a living history museum, they could get the staff to wear period clothing. That would be fun, and something a little bit different to visit rather than the usual theme and amusement parks.
Shavethewhales
This sounds great to me, I was beginning to wonder what ever happened to the Scenic Railway. Most park support groups make a little noise and are inevitable bowled over when the park finally dies, but this group really managed to accomplish something. Are they saving Southport's old wooden mouse?
verticalzero
Yes the Wild Mouse is getting saved (that if it does not do a Runaway Coaster 1st, get torn down with no notice) is NO: 5 on the Map. Last time I visisted Margate when was "Benbon Brothers" were looking after the park.

Shavethewhales
Was #26 the side-friction coaster from Rotunda? Awful what happened to it, would they consider building a replica?
EmBy
Wow this will be amazing if it gets the go ahead, the UK needs something like this especially with parks shutting down. Do you know will they be getting the Water Chute from Rhyl Ocean Beach? I heard this park will be closing in the Autumn to make way for re-development. BorisTF
Whilst its a nice idea, I don't see it working too well...a heritage park just doesn't have impact the site would need in my opinion.
verticalzero
This is what happened to the "Runaway Coaster" at Rotunda. The classic 1920's side friction portable "woodie" was being destroyed as of yesterday afternoon. I believe it was one of the last remaining attractions left on the former Rotunda Amusement Park site at Folkestone, Kent (England, UK). Apparently Nick Laister of the Save Dreamland Campaign had been in communication with the park owners to remove the ride from the park to place into storage. All very sad I think, and this now leaves only "Leap The Dips" in the US as a final example of an apparently very common coaster of this type in the 1920's era. I read this particular one was found in a field in Holland before it was shipped to Folkestone to be refurbished for its new patrons for the 1997 season. See www.savedreamland.co.uk forums for more info and the quite depressing pictures. I can't believe we seem to be hell- bent on destroying such historic rides at present. So close on the heels of the Cyclone too. ------------------------------------------------------------ According to nick laister of save dreamland the following rides are being put in storage in margate-ksm: River caves, catterpillar, skyride, haunted swing, astro swirl, remaining parts inside the funhouse and the ghost train workings electrics and cars-the haunted inn has asbestos and cannot be moved
martynlfc
A load of rides from Southport are going here and the Turtle Chase from Blackpool and i wish them every success with this. Il probably go shortly after its opening. Hope it does well
Airtime&Gravity
Great to hear that the park is being saved, as it seemed it would close in a short time. It's great that an old park is being saved, and hopefully, the new Heritage Park does well. The park seemed decent until a few years ago when almost everything was removed, so hopefully the new owners can replace some of the removed rides. Leekak
Local News showing home videos now and its looking pretty bad. Dreamland has been closed for 5 years now and the Scenic has just sat there doing nothing. It is the oldest coaster in Britain and was a listed building. My very first coaster and fond memories. Juggler
Just been listening to Radio Kent. 50% of the station has gone along with about a 1/3 of the track, which has collapsed in on itself. The worst damage looks to have been to the workshop which has gone completely and as all the running gear and trains will have been inside those are almost certainly lost and will be almost impossible to replace. About 80 fire fighters were called to the Scenic. Police are already treating the blaze as "suspicious." http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/kent/7335519.stm
cfc
^I rather doubt that it's a case of spontaneous coaster combustion.
Lord Kotowa
The fire surronding the roller coaster is very suspicious. Especially since the Historic Theme Park had just been approved to go there, which beat the plan to demolish the area for a residential development. Me thinks they are behind all this. If so its like what happened in Camden and Thorpe Park.

I dunno about Thorpe, just was a bit fishy how a fire destroyed a section of the park just big enough for a B&M was a bit fishy. But anyway, the ride appears to have been destroyed by the fire. Lord Kotowa
On July 21 a major fire broke out in the centre of the park. * This destroyed The Wicked Witches Haunt and Mr Rabbit's Tropical Travels rides, which both closed immediately
