SCAD Towers - Where Are They?

Recommended Posts

Also, I believe that one of the crane mounted versions had an accident at a random fair. Again, net wasn't positioned correctly.

That would be the OC Fair. I remember being there that day, with a bunch of paradmedics heading towards the tower. The next day, when we drove past it, half of the thing was down. I haven't seen one since.

I have to say that when I did it, it was certainly the most scariest thing that I have ever done. Just glad that I forced myself to do it at the Dells on the Midwest trip.

You feel so helpless when you are just hanging there, hoping that the net is there and nothing is gonna go wrong. I tried to keep my eyes closed but the op asked me to look up just before she released the catch - bitch lol.

It was actually a very comfortable landing in the net. I was buzzing on adrenaline for quite a bit after!

Ed Roberts here...

Durning my time as manager for Thrill-Ville USA, they did own a SCAD, however never set it up at the park.

It ran at Puyallup once or twice, from what I have been told it was a nightmare to set up.

It currently is laying in storage at the park, well it was last time I was there, I left Thrill-Ville after 14 years, and didn't set foot on the property this past season, no real reason, just never found the time to get out there.

Last I heard they are selling it, so if anyone want a great ride for their park I know where you can it one at a good price.

I want to bring this thread back from the dead because;

1. are there any of these still around? and

2. I live about an hour north of Puyallup, and I went to the fair the last couple of years but I never knew they brought one to The Fair... here's a crappy video and a website with the "x-treme" rides from 2003--now it's called "Adventure Zone" at the fair each year, and they still have the Slingshot and S&S Combo Tower, which is pretty damn fun. They should bring the SCAD back! Anyone know if Funtastic was running the midway back then?

edit; here's my answer, it sounds like Funtastic was doing at least the midway rides. I also go to Jack in the Box for lunch when I go, funny how things are largely the same after 13 years: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=53827

^Nice. Did that in 2011 and it was a ton of fun; we're talking maximum exhilaration, needless to say. Only minor disappointment was hearing them say it's the attraction the fewest people back out of, but it was still great fun to experience one of the rarer extreme thrill rides, whether it rates as the scariest or not.

The last SCAD tower in America closed a few days ago.  Zero Gravity announced on their website they closed since their landlord sold the park's land and cancelled the park's lease.  The park would like to rebuild, so hopefully this SCAD tower can be saved.

I rode it after a trip to Six Flags Over Texas last fall and it was the scariest ride I've ever experienced.  I think it was scarier than skydiving.  The anticipation and freefall was incredible.  I think the scariest thing was how a pain-free fall was contingent upon you maintaining the proper riding position.  I did that on my first two rides, but I think I moved my leg on my third ride (supposed to keep it still) and injured my knee on the landing.  It was entirely may fault, but my knee healed after a few months.  The pain was temporary, but the memory of this ride will last forever.  It was an absolute adrenaline rush.
