As of today, Sky Rocket has officially gone vertical! There's a picture of the first few supports over at KPConnection. Just scroll down a bit to check it out: Supports goin' up!

I can't wait to see this coaster continue to take shape over the next few weeks!

*EDIT - ^ D'oh! You beat me by a few seconds....

^If they're from me (as was the one posted earlier up), you can USUALLY expect updates every 2 or 3 days; if not that, definitely once a week.

I'm totally geeking out about this coaster that is over 8 hours away from me...

Oh well. Can't wait to see more!

Supposedly the first pieces of track went up today...KWC should have an update up tomorrow showing the progress. They really have accomplished a lot in the last few days.

It really is amazing how quickly the crew is working on Sky Rocket. Kudos to them if this pace keeps up! That's a very pleasant surprise to me to hear that track is being placed already.....I wasn't expecting that until early April.

On a side note, I really do think the coaster is going to look awesome on Kennywood's skyline with that bright blue track and gray/silver supports. Excellent color choice, in my humble opinion.

The first pieces of track went up today! Alongside the images from around 1 that I took and will be appearing on KPConnection soon, the park itself has pics up on Facebook from earlier this morning. I also shot footage that I will upload to Youtube and edit into this post later today.

Awesome to see track going up now as well! I have a feeling this coaster is going to pack a nice little punch for its size.....I think it's a perfect fit for Kennywood. Also makes me wonder if more parks will look into this if it is successful. It's like Premier's answer to the Eurofighter.

I think this was my favorite picture from the Facebook update:

This overbank leading into the bunny hops looks like a sweet combo!

Looking great! I'm crossing my fingers and really hoping this thing doesn't have a slew mechanical problems immediately after it opens. I bet it'll be just fine, but sometimes you never know with launched coasters.

I'm looking at 2 different things.

First, it is "sort of" a clone, so maybe there won't be those problems.

Second, there are 2 major differences from Wicked @ Lagoon: Different trains, and the cliff-hanger element.

I predict that the cliff-hanger will be the buzz-kill in the first couple weeks. "IF" it's installed. I dunno how many times KW hasn't stuck to original plans.

Wicked is also made by Zierer, Sky Rocket is made by Premier.

^^ I can see the first cliff hanger element staying, but that second one.... I don't want the second one to go in because at that point in the ride I would want to keep going and not stop for some element that had already happened.

Correctamundo! But when you look at the history of design licensing, they're pretty much the same product, with only major differences in train/restraint designs. Hopefully Premier's will be much better.

If my memory serves me right, there's only one cliff-hanger after the initial launch. Is it posted somehwere that there is supposed to be a second one?

I think people are really over thinking this cliffhanger element a bit. It doesn't say anywhere that the train is going to be stopped like you would see on the B&M dive machines, it just says there will be a pause in the action. That could mean a variety of different things. Maybe the coaster is designed so it slowly creeps over the top of the first hill so it seems as if you are stopping? Both of the drops are vertical drops which in essence simulate a sort of a 'cliffhanger'. I'm skeptical that this thing is even going to have any kinda of braking devices to actually stop the train in these two elements, but if it does it'll probably only stop the train for a second or two and let release it. I really don't think this is going to be anything like a dive machine, I think its just Kennywood making something sound more exciting than it actually is.

In other news, Kennywood Connection has put up another update to their site:

Thanks DE!

And @ East: It's in the press release at Kennywood.com

After the high-speed launch, riders will experience

a vertical ascent to 95ft before a brief cliffhanger pause at the top and a 90-degree drop into a

maximum G-force pullout.
