Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread

P. 161: Steel Curtain reopens on May 24th, 2025

Kennywood doesn't have a set closing time. The 10pm time is kind of a soft target. In my (limited) experience there, under normal circumstances they will close around that time. If the park's especially busy, they'll stay open later. If it's pouring down rain and nobody's there, they'll close earlier. But nothing's guaranteed!

If you ask around in the afternoon, the employees usually have a pretty good idea.

I was at the park on Sunday and was surprised they closed at 9. Earlier in the day when we asked the info desk, they said they thought it would be between 10 and 11.

Luckily we still had a great day in the park. Being new to Pittsburgh, I am so happy to have as great of a park as Kennywood 10 minutes away.... I also caught Robb in the video they play in Phantom's station. I loled.

Reaction/response 2: Any Pittsburghers fair game to meet up at KW either this year or next for a sort of 'meet and greet?' It's a shame there are quite a few of us from around here but it seems that many of us don't really know each other...regardless of one major common interest.

I am all for this.

^Sounds like a cool idea.

Anybody got any news on the new ride?Like when they are going to announce a name and logo or more artwork? It's been over 2 months now and they told us a name woud be released "in the coming weeks", in the press release.

^But it is the most interesting part.

They've completely torn out the turnpike and leveled the land. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow. Other than that, nothing really interesting has happened yet.

^ A picture would be awesome. The latest picture I've seen is almost a month old. I'll get some pictures too when I go to Kennywood on Saturday (praying the rain holds out).

^There are other things that govern when projects can begin other than what the ride manufacturer wants (permits, environmental issues, the owner) And if they have begun clearing the land, then they have started the project.

^not to mention, this ride is "almost" a clone. I'm sure (weather permitting) this ride will be done on time, and thats all that matters, isn't it?

It's almost clone? If I remember correctly I don't think I've saw a coaster with this same kind of layout.

I think I should pay a little more attention to this coaster since I have been accepted to a college out there this could possibly be my new home park for me.

EDIT: He's referring to Wicked. I totally forgot about that. Yes, Wicked and the new coaster will be similar.

...but they are from two completely different companies and will use different technology, trains, track, ect.

I don't see how this coaster having a *somewhat* similar layout to another has anything to do with Premier's ridiculous habit of delaying almost all of their coaster's openings by long periods of time.

^ Doesn't premier contract out the actual assembly to contractors, like other ride design companies do? If that's the case than maybe it isn't their fault for the delays... I could be wrong, but it's just a thought.

I don't see how they couldn't contract out the construction, they are an extremely small company. I interviewed with Premier and, at least at the time, they had noone that would manage a construction project, nevermind actually do the construction themselves.

Construction started in August for a relatively small ride, I am still gobsmacked that people are already assuming (In October) that a ride that is not set to open for another 6 or so months is already delayed.

^ Yep, but that's the way it goes sometimes

It's a welcome addition, if it rides anything like wicked, or any good premier launcher, it's going to be a favorite of mine being as close as it is

Knowing Kennywood, i see no reason to think it will be a bad ride.
