cfc Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 ^I felt the same way after seeing the "crawl through a tunnel" scene in The Descent.
alilstronger Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 We Redboxed Snow White and the Huntsman the other day. I really didn't expect much going into it so I wasn't let down in the least. I cannot stand Kristen Stewart. She only spoke maybe 5 sentences for about her first 30 minutes of screen time; just grunted and panted while running around. The direction was terrible; certain parts of the story didn't connect. How did she go through a sewer, jump off a cliff into the ocean, wash up on a beach but yet end up in a village with the guards just a few seconds behind her? And she looks like Bugs Bunny. Her front teeth are too big for her mouth! She looks like she's straining every time she tries to close her lips around those teeth. Poor choice for Snow White. Glad I only paid $1.28 to watch it. I did not catch them mistakes when I watched it. All my friends HATE watching movies with me because I usually catch every mistake. I will have to re watch it and catch them. Then again I liked the movie and I actually like Kristen Stewart. I remember seeing her in The Messengers - now that is a bad movie. ^I felt the same way after seeing the "crawl through a tunnel" scene in The Descent. OMG I am with you on that!! I watch that movie in amazement because I could never do that. I watched The Man In The Moon last for the first time. If you do not know what it is, It is Resse Ritherspoons first major role from the early 90's. I actually got really wrapped up into it. But then again it hit a string with me and I love dramas.

cfc Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 I watched Cabin in the Woods on Saturday night and enjoyed it. It's a horror movie that essentially rips horror movies for what they've morphed into since the 1980s--brainless "dying teenager" flicks. Call it an "anti-horror" flick that, in my opinion, is much better than the overrated Scream movies. Those expecting big scares will probably be disappointed, though.
Meteornotes Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 ^I thought it was good, but overhyped. The last fifteen minutes or so are amazing. dt
cfc Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 ^It was a pretty conventional "spam in a cabin" movie with a twist when it started. But I appreciated how it built into something more.
alilstronger Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 ^ I could not stand that movie!!!! Horror is my number 1 genre and I thought it was kinda silly. I am just glad I saw it for free in the theaters. The special effects at the end looked so fake. I will say I can see where people did like it.
Rollercoaster Rider Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Friends With Kids About as funny as Open-heart surgery. And the last line in the film bombed IMO. Only watch the film for Adam Scott and Jennifer Westfeldt cause they're in 90% of the film. What is with Kristen Wiig being in movies with a group of people that are barely in the film? Huh? It's a made for TV film with profanity sprinkled in, in place of jokes (The philosophy where if you can't think of anything funny, say the F-word logic works in Spades in this film.)
Movieguy Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Mary and Max (2009) This is an interesting, stop-motion animated film, apparently based on a true story. Back in the 70's, a young girl named Mary (Voiced by Toni Collete) sends a random letter to NYC, and it ends up in the hands of a chubby, middle-aged shut-in named Max (Voiced by Philip Seymour Hoffman). Max, it turns out, has Aspergers Syndrome, and through their correspondence over the years, Mary eventually writes a ton of research on the subject using him as a focal point, something he's not too pleased with at first. I don't want to spoil everything on this film, so I'll stop there. This movie is on Netflix, and I highly recommend watching it if you can. It's an overall powerful emotional experience, with plenty of funny moments to go along with the sad ones. It looks like a cartoon at first, but believe me, nothing is sugarcoated in this story at all.
molemaster43 Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure: Really weird movie. It is about these two kids who have to ace their history report in order to pass. If they don't, one of them has to move to Alaska and go to military school. They acquired a time machine and are going back in time to find historical figures to help them. This movie was funny at some parts, but very weird overall. There is a Disney reference which made me happy 7/10
sfgam#1 Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I saw Paranormal activity 4 last night. All I have to say is,the series is now for FANS ONLY !!! If you didn't like 2,3 then you're not gonna like this one. But if all you're looking for is a few good jump scares then you'll have a blast...But if you're looking for a story just stay home ... So i give it a 6/10 ...I just wish they would of gave SOME type of new information about Toby and the cult thing ...But they didn't. But I cant lie they're some really good jump scares you wont see coming ...

onewheeled999 Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Saw a few more movies in the last week or so. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: What a beautiful movie. Confusing as all hell, but all-around great. I'm definitely gonna give it another watch soon to get the full picture. The Perks of Being a Wallflower: As a fan of the book, this movie is worthy. Great casting for the three leads, and good pacing for a story that has no real "story". Maybe a bit too hipster-y and pretentious in some places, but I liked it. LOTR: The Two Towers Extended Edition: I didn't like it quite as much as the first one, but it was still an impressive film. The pacing seemed really off, though, with the three separate storylines going on at the same time, and some getting way more screen time than others. At least the supporting characters that didn't get much time in the spotlight in the first movie, like Gimli and the other two hobbits, got a chance to shine. Bring on the four hours of The Return of the King! The Thing (1982): Brilliant movie! It's amazing how well the effects have held up in the thirty years since the film was made, they were absolutely disgusting in the best possible way. I can't help but feel like there were too many characters with not enough characterization, though.. Still, HIGHLY recommended!
Movieguy Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Return of The Living Dead (1985) This movie is a really under-appreciated gem in the Zombie film genre. Everyone talks about the Dawn of The Dead Remake, the infected in 28 Days Later, The Walking Dead and all that, but this movie, I think, still stands above most of the newer stuff. It's too bad that all the crappy sequels tainted its legacy. Everyone knows about the debate over fast zombies and slow zombies. I think ROTLD got it right with how they should be, in that they don't lumber, and they don't sprint around all hyper either. They move just as quickly as regular people, which adds to the realism, I think. Another thing that sets these zombies apart, is that you can't kill them by destroying the brain...in fact, you can't kill them, PERIOD! That makes them a hell of a lot scarier, to me. But, in spite of the zombies themselves, this movie has just the right mixture of horror and black comedy, that makes it a truly memorable watch. My hats off to you, Dan O'Bannon, may you rest in peace. Brrrraaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiinnnns!
cfc Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 I caught Frankenweenie today and really enjoyed it. Tim Burton did a good job building on the original short subject he made for Disney back in the 1980s. I particularly liked the science teacher who looked like Vincent Price and spoke with a Central European accent (nice voice work by Martin Laudau).

alilstronger Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 I absolutely LOVED Paranormal Activity 4!!! I love how they are tying the story together from each movie. I LOVE how they left the ending open for another!!!
molemaster43 Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted: Funny movie. This is another great installment into the Madagascar series. The comedy was great as usual, but it felt very different than the first two movies. Nonetheless, it still is a very funny movie and probably my second favorite in the series. 8.5/10
Movieguy Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I just saw Sinister a few hours ago. Decent horror flick with some good, cheap scares. Christopher Young did the music, but it sounded more like Trent Reznor to me. The experience was enhanced by seeing it with my sister, who's much more susceptible to jump scares than me. There was much amusement on my end.
Simipour'sTrainer Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Top Cat: The Movie This past weekend while I was visiting my family in Mexico, I popped into a Mexican Sear's and I found the movie on the shelves (entitled "Don Gato y Su Pandilla"). I was actually surprised to find that the English dub was included with the movie. Now I have heard almost nothing but horrible things about it, some people even say it's the worst movie ever made. Well, I sat down and I watched it...and I ended up enjoying it. Sure, the movie has its flaws (muddled story, somewhat mediocre voice acting, less-than-impressive 3D backdrops, etc.), but I couldn't help but like it. I guess it's become a new guilty pleasure of mine. I would give it a 3.5 out of 5, not a perfect movie, but not the worst I've seen.
the ghost Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Wreck it Ralph AND The Man With The Iron Fists BOTH COME OUT NEXT WEEKEND!
lond Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Skyfall directly after work Just got home after the movie and straight in to bed, it's 03:23 am /// Marcus
Meteornotes Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Finally saw Looper. Amazing. Best movie I've seen this year. dt
