Nrthwnd
^ Well, that's cool. It's open to whoever you feel a kinship with, then.
Garet
^ I think it just shows how well rounded pixar made the characters that everyone can find so many characters who stole the show for them.
TPDave
I saw Jurassic World at the weekend, I thought it looked really good with very impressive CGI. Shame about the storyline, but fro the box office figures I'm not sure too many people care! Inside out is next on my list, from what I've heard I can't wait to see it! viking86
Watched San Andreas last night and was pleasantly surprised. Sure this was helped by the fact that my expectations before the movie were low. Yes, the storyline is ridicilous and extremely over-the-top, but when you go to see a distaster movie you go to see massive destruction, and this movie definitely has a lot of it! I also watched Jurassic World two weeks ago. I thought the movie was good entertainment for a saturday evening, but nothing memorable. The CGI was well done, I liked the references to the first movie (like the scene when Claire lighted the flare to make the T-Rex follow her) and I also thought the trained raptors were cool. Unfortunately I found the overall experience and characters to be somewhat lacking, and found myself not caring for a single one of them. I just wish they could make a JP movie without annoying kids... Oh, and a single teenage operator on the gyrosphere ride?? Did they create that scene just to annoy us? cfc
I watched Tim Burton's "Big Eyes" over the weekend. It's a good movie overall, but Christoph Waltz's performance was a bit too swarmy and over-the top. You might say he was "Christoph Waltzing" all over the place (and I'm a fan of his, too). He made the movie seem a bit "cartoony" at times. He's not bad, just a bit too much. That being said, Amy Adams was more subdued and effective, and the movie is worth seeing. Anything
Jurassic World is just sensational. The first real suspense scene where Pratt is under the truck and the thing is lurking around, with the cinema bass and volume of the dino it was a sensational moment. Nrthwnd
Saw Jurassic World last week. Impressed with it, and got a couple of actual scares in it. Really loved the scenes going back to "the old place." That was trippy, and we enjoyed seeing that. Also noticed that Dr.Wu took off with all the young'uns, eggs and such? Dare I say..... another "Jurassic.....Rebirth"? Eventually?

Nrthwnd
^ We saw it at home, ourself. And really enjoyed it, bizarreness and all. But then, this was Tim Burton, hmm? And Amy Adams was perfect.
Nrthwnd
Inside/Out We saw it. We loved it. I cried. SPOILER ALERT And I loved Bing Bong! So much so, I immediately bought the plush that smells like cotton candy!
ernierocker
Watched Inside Out as well yesterday. Went with my 6 and 4 year old and while the 4 year old was a little squirmy at the end they both loved it. Great concept for a film which made me remember how much I loved Cranium Command as a kid. As for the short film, Lava before the movie. WTF was that crap. Edited July 3, 2015 by ernierocker
Nrthwnd
^ Lava was....okaaaay...but it was done along the lines I believe, of how old Hawaiian folk songs and such are done. Slowly, with story line through out. At the end, we thought it was a sweet time, between the two of them. Even volcanoes need love. And here's our cat Stella's Disney Corner...with a new friend. Bing Bong seems to me, like a distant cousin of Cheshire Cat. Very VERY distant...
Woodie Warrior
As for the short film, Lava before the movie. WTF was that crap. Okay I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this. My group and I were trying not to laugh the entire time. It's probably the cheesiest thing PIXAR has ever produced.
Meteornotes
Watched John Wick on HBO the other night. There is no plot (guy seeks revenge on Russian mob by killing all of them), but there were some decently done action sequences. It's worth a watch, but I kept thinking it would have been an action classic if they had just worked on the script some more before shooting it. dt
robbalvey
So I finally saw Tomorrowland. Wow, what a hot mess of a movie that was. There were certainly parts I liked, and I didn't hate it, but I can see why it hasn't done well. The performances were really good and the two girls saved the movie from being a total disaster, but between confusing plot points that went nowhere, completely ridiculous scenes that rival the Indy Jones in the nuclear fridge scene in embarrassment for the writers and the actors, the actual Tomorrowland not even being remotely cool or interesting and there being some sort of creepy pedophile overtone throughout the film the whole thing was just not good. I'm a huge fan of Brad Bird, but maybe he should stick to animated movies.
Garet
Just got home from work to see this on the VOD when I turned on the TV (I've never brought off the VOD though $10 to rent a movie once is too much for me,) Korea must have the most ridiculously short time between cinema release and digital anywhere. Although I've also seen a lot of pirated dvd stands here and a lot of people download movies that have delayed releases if they come out on DVD in other countries before they hit cinemas here like Frozen and Big Hero 6 (not that it hurt ticket sales, seems everyone who downloaded Frozen or the kids who watched it at school then decided they really wanted to see it on the big screen.) It'll be interesting to see how Ant-Man does here, the marvel movies have always done very well at filling seats in Korean cinemas but this is the first one that is getting a severely delayed release. DoinItForTheFame
Well since this is about movies.... I must say that I HATED Jurassic World. I was ready to leave the movie 15 minutes into it. . . I guess that the original Jurassic Park was so good that my expectations for Jurassic world were so high that it just failed to meet my expectations. cfc
Just for the hell of it, I caught a late showing of Terminator Genisys last night. Hmm . . . what good things can I day about it? 1. Christian Bale is nowhere to be seen, which already makes it a better movie than Terminator Salvation. 2. JK Simmons is pretty funny, although he isn't given much to do and there's little explanation as to why his character is there in the first place. 3. It makes you want to watch the original Terminator, which is a much better movie. That's about all I can say. Edited July 19, 2015 by cfc
cfc
I caught Mr. Holmes yesterday and liked it a lot--easily the best version of Sherlock Holmes I've seen in years. It was good to see Holmes treated as more of a "Victorian gentleman" (as in the stories and novels) and less like a high-functioning sociopath or a Robert Downey, Jr.

cfc
I caught Ant-Man last week, and while I agree that's it's an entertaining movie, I'm not as "blown away" as some critics and viewers seem to be. Essentially, they remade Iron-Man and added an overlay of Captain America. Yes, it's fun and worth seeing, but a bit overrated.
molemaster43
Saw Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation; quickly became one of my favorites of the year and my favorite of the franchise. The plot holds together and perfectly strings together a series of exciting and exhilarating action sequences, from a great sequence in an opera house to one of the best motorcycle chase scenes out there. Rogue Nation is definitely worth a watch. It has a couple minor pacing issues (131 minutes long), but it doesn't hinder the movie down much at all. Performances are great all around, Simon Pegg steals the show for me again. Check it out!
cfc
I caught Shaun the Sheep last weekend and enjoyed it--another good, low-key piece of claymation from Aardman. Although I have nothing against computer-animated flicks (hey, times and technology change), it's nice to see a piece of "hand-on" stop motion for a change.
