theonetheonlyJT
I think that the replacement refs are doing a decent job. The regular refs made just as many mistakes as the replacement refs and the only deference I see is that the replacement refs take a longer time to make a call. I think that it doesn't matter which refs they have, they both make big mistakes.
Sir Clinksalot
^ I agree to an extent. And I do agree that it's not the replacement officials part. Â Regular officials in ALL sports make mistakes (Armando Gallaraga perfect game anybody). Â I think it all comes down to "control" of the game. Coaches and players are taking advantage of these officials, yes, even the coach of my favorite team Jim Harbaugh. By the end of that game last night there were 24 flags thrown. Most were good calls, some were not. The defensive pass interference that was called a few plays prior that led to this final "touchdown" that nobody is talking about as an example. Â Do the regular officials make bad calls, of course they do. It's an imperfect science. Do I think the regular officials would have gotten that one right, I don't know. I'll say I'm about 75% sure they would have. I'm 100% sure there would have at least been a discussion with the referee prior to making any decision. Â Sure, the Packers shouldn't have been in that position, the game shouldn't have been that close, blah, blah, blah, blah. Â Seattle isn't a bad team. Not by a long shot. Especially at home. So while it's a surprise, it's not a complete shock.
Jew
Of course the real refs were not perfect themselves, but it goes without saying that their years of experience is essential to a high quality football game. You can't replace their years of digging deep into the NFL rulebook, years of knowing players tendencies, and years of game experience in knowing what little things to look for. BeemerBoy
I'm also getting really tired of the whole "player safety" argument being tossed around. What does that even mean??? How do replacement refs make it any less safe to play in that league when guys have been taking blatant and potentially career-threatening shots at each other week after week for the last two decades or more? Sir Clinksalot
^ It goes back to the "Substitute Teacher" mentality. When you were in school and you had a sub, you'd try and get away with things you normally wouldn't get away with. The same things are happening now, on pile-up's, etc. Â There have been quite a few helmet-to-helmet hits the last couple of weeks that haven't been called. Â Not only are the regular officials more experienced with the game, with the speed of the game, but they actually have a rapport with the coaches and players that cannot be replaced. Sir Clinksalot
Sadly I had to miss the ass kicking of one of my least favorite teams due to Back to School night. Any time the Cowboys, Raiders or Eagles lose it's a good day in the NFL!!!
Hilltopper39
Yeah, that was a classic Tony Romo 5 picks on MNF performance. Elsewhere in the NFL the circus that is the NY Jets continues to spiral out of control, seriously that team is a complete mess and they looked absolutely awful against the 49ers. They have no weapons on offense, their best defensive player is out for the year, and then there's Tebow. In pro sports they always say (and I don't know who "they" is but I've heard it many times) if you are going to be bad at least be interesting, so I say throw Tebow in and lets see what happens. Philrad71
^But, but....the Jets still aren't the Buffalo Bills! Â Not one person in the Bills organization right now could hold (or sniff) the jock of Tebow...or Sanchez...or Alex Smith...or Frank Gore...or a replacement ref for that matter. Â I am so glad that I haven't had a chance to watch this team on tv this year. Listening to a few quarters of the Patriots and 49'ers game on Sirius while driving consecutive weeks was enough to make me switch it over to Lithium. I could have listened to the 40's on 4 and it would have been more entertaining than listening to overpaid millionaires getting their asses kicked. This team couldn't beat an Eden, OK high school JV scrimmage the way they're playing right now. Simply pathetic. Even squeaky windshield wipers in the rain was more entertaining for a while. Â LA is cringing right now and thinking....PLEASE, PLEASE...anyone, anyone...just NOT the Buffalo Bills!!!! Â Perhaps I can watch the Sabres? Â Oh wait....damn. Hilltopper39
I know the Jaguars suck, but at this point is there any reason Chicago isn't a top 6 team? The Bears look poised to make a deep run this year, I know they need to win a big game but for now they look really good.

Sir Clinksalot
Atlanta moves onto their first 5-0 start in franchise history! Also, got to love NFL Red Zone! Â The Red Zone Channel is amazing. Not sure how we ever survived without it. Â Despite a set-back to the Vikings, my 49ers are looking great. Right now they and Houston look to be the best teams in the league (no offense to ATL). Quite a scare from the Redskins on Saturday. Â This week we get the Giants, looking to lay to boom down on them.
theonetheonlyJT
Quite a scare from the Redskins on Saturday  Wasn't as intense as the Falcons/Panthers game which if Cam Newton didn't fumble they would have won, so hopefully the Falcons won't have a late season fail (like all Georgia teams seem to have) and finally win their first super bowl. Sir Clinksalot
So what does everybody think of this whole "Cheering the injured QB" thing in KC. I've always considered KC fans to be some of the best in the league as far as commitment to their team is concerned. I see a lot of people trying to say they weren't cheering Cassell being injured but cheering Quinn coming in (why would you do that?). Â My thought is, the perception among the players was that they were cheering the injury, that's all that matters IMO. I also felt they were cheering him getting hurt, which is terrible. Â Some other talking heads have been trying to excuse the behavior because the team is terrible. Uhm, there are LOTS of terrible teams. Yes, you can boo the team, you can boo the coach, the owner, etc. But to cheer an injury, just sad.
Hilltopper39
Cheering for a guy to get benched on a performance basis is one thing, but cheering for an injury is just wrong IMO, end of discussion.
BeemerBoy
It's low class no matter how you slice it. KC is still only good for it's bar-b-q.
Jew
The joke is on them: Brady Quinn is their QB now! Â (Side note: Matt Cassel is a family friend, so I was extra bummed out to see him go down.)
Hilltopper39
^I always liked Cassel, he hasn't had a great run with the Chiefs but I've always though he comes off as a classy guy. As a guy who live in Jacksonville and now semi-follows the Jaguars by default, I'd take Cassel over Gabbert any day.
Sir Clinksalot
It's obvious given the right environment that Cassell can be a good QB. I mean look what he did in NE the year Brady was hurt. Â I think people always assume it's the QB's fault and don't look at the system or how the team is utilizing them. Why pay all this $$ for a QB and then not build on his strengths? Â Prime example, even though I don't like the guy, Tim Tebow. Look what Denver did last year. They completely changed their offense to fit his game and they ended up making the playoffs and winning a game. Granted, a LOT of luck came into play, but they did everything they could to to try and make the team better with who they had. Â Another example, Alex Smith. He was TERRIBLE for a lot of years. I mean he was benched in favor of Shaun Hill ... more than once. But look what's happened. He got a coach who believed in him, has an offense that builds around his strengths which in-turn has increased his confidence level. It CAN happen and I'm going to predict that this year or next year, he's going to be in the Pro Bowl. Watch.
