mateony Posted June 2, 2007 Posted June 2, 2007 Was there on Tuesday & Wednesday, and it was EMPTY. I must say, they have the sexiest looking collection of coasters anywhere! This newbie will start the show with the newbie coaster... While the inversions & second drop were impressive, they left me a bit underwhelmed. The first drop really is the main event. OH! NOZE! First drop really does take your breath away... I loved hearing the front row's reaction once on the holding break. Dayum. Rough wait. Although the sign says 0 minutes, the wait was really just 10-15 minutes for most of the day. What I came for...

Again, I had to brave the horrendous lines.. Hi! I have a trim at the top of my drop, and the slowest op's in the park, but I sure am a looker!

Great ride OP at Nessie, kept calling the ride "Griffin". The look on the chirrun's faces. Hahah. I laffed. Threesome

I was really looking forward to Apollo (only other B&M hyper I've ridden is Nitro). Needless to say I was bored to tears. I must say my first ride was in the middle of the train, subsequent rides were in the last row which was much better. Again..those tr Lots o' lines.. Hi! Too bad about Apollos Chariot though....it usually kicks Nitro's ass up and down, left and right.
cfc Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Lots of good pictures--maybe a few too many, but all good. Â Sometimes, they do "overtrim" Apollo; other days, they don't. (That first drop following the turnaround is like having the floor drop out from under you.) Â You're off to a good start on your TRs here. I think I would cut down a bit on the number of pictures and use a bit more narrative and captions to describe the day (but that's just me). Looking forward to seeing more from you.

That gap between the track and upstop wheel gives Arrow riders that quality jackhammer sensation.

Â Yes, its normal. if the wheels top and bottom were both touching the track, it would bind whenever the track bends up or down. The same with the guide wheels, there has to be a small gap to stop binding. The alternative is to change the track guage on turns like they do on some woodies. Â In theory, the upstops are never meant to be used anyway, they are only there just in case. The reason they are so small is because they arent expected to bear the weight of the train for long. More modern coasters have more sophisticated wheel sets so that they use big saftey wheels, springs and levers to keep all wheels in contact with the track, to allow hang time.

stormrider Posted June 4, 2007 Posted June 4, 2007 The pictures where just I'm amazed. They are probably the most beautiful pictures of roller coasters that I have seen. There is lots of color, vibrant, the photos are clear, and there are angles to Alpengheist that I haven't seen in photos before, let alone in such clarity. The pictures of non rides where great as well, like the gardens. More narrative would have made it into a real "report" but sometimes I just love looking at pictures

They didn't have the Red-Bull-ish new one that I wanted to try, but I did try some Land Shark (Tasted exactly like Corona), Skip Jack, and something else that I can't recall the name of. Â I'm also starting to think that my opinion of Apollo might have been jaded a bit by Griffin. Hahhaha, it's kinda hard to follow up that drop.

Even last year when I was looking to ride for the first time it wasn't that great either. I think it's one those coasters that gets over hyped, but that's just me I guess. No harm, No Foul. Oh!
