jarmor
during my recent stints to various parks that have racing/dueling coaster only like 5% of the time it did just that. The only park that I know that has a contineous record of racing/dueling is IOA. Is it that it takes too long to load the train and have them duel/race or are the ops just wanting to get the train in and out and dont care about the racing/dueling factor. What are you thoughts? Twister II
Ive only been on Dueling Dragons and Gemini. What are you talking about? On Dueling Dragons the chainlift weights each train to duel, it has nothing to do with the ops. Ops on Dueling Dragons were very nice. But for a one train operation the line went very fast. Gemini raced everytime I was on it with speedy lines all 3 times I've been there.
SharkTums
He's probably mainly talking about Gwazi, which even changed it's tag line from "Dueling Coaster" to "Double Coaster". Most of the time when Dueling Dragons doesn't duel it's not the ops, but the guests! I don't really understand the point of building such a cool concept, then not using it! TheStig
^ Well thats because Gwazi shakes it's self to pieces!! It was good when it was new and dueled, but now sucks total ass as a double coaster. It needs some major re-hab in order to even survive it! I think it ended up being a waste of BGT's money, oh well it still seems popular with the GP though.... Sir Clinksalot
The only time I've ever seen the Dragons not dueling was when a guest had a protein spill on Ice. But the entire time I was at BGT, I never saw gwazi running together (I didn't realize they had changed the byline to "double" instead of "dueling." That's pretty pathetic). I still can't figure out what it was about Ice that made someone ralph...
BarryH
Thunder Road at Carowinds didn't race either. When I was at BGT Monday, Gwazi Tiger was down all day.
What Now
Lightning Racer is the only racing coaster I've been on that actually races.
CoasterFanatic
From my experiences: I have seen all the Paramount Racers race at some point. Overall they are about 50/50 Gwazi used to always duel (first couple years). Now it is a very rare sight. Lightning Racer nearly always races. Dueling Dragons nearly always races. I think I have been on it once where it didn't. The trains probably have to dispatch over a minute apart to not race. I don't think I have ever seen the Racer at Kennywood not race. If there is more than one car on the track, they better race ... or look out! Gemini usually races. It doesn't when they are running two cars (both on the same side). I have only been to Kentucky Kingdom once and only one side of Twisted Twins was operating. I have never seen Batman and Robin (Chiller) open at the same time. Have these things ever launched at the same time? I think it is kind of waste when these rides don't do what they are supposed to do. While Gwazi is designed to duel, the lines at the park rarely warrant it. Even with the slowest dispatches on the planet, the line is usually still pretty short. Even when the ride was good, there was rarely any huge crowds on it.
M_Force_4_ever
when I was at SFKK on saturday only one side of Twisted Twins was open (dont know what the name of that one is) the one closest to the entrace, anyway this was quite dissapointing especially concidering that it was in qa one train operation. DenDen
Kennywood Racer always races, it has to, since it's a single long loop for both sides.
Inferno Insane
Kennywood Racer always races, it has to, since it's a single long loop for both sides. The same things happens on Grand National at Pleasure Beach Blackpool.
Rooey
A few times when we want on Duelling Dragons, something happened with the other train and we were VERY SLOWLY climbing the lift hill, though it was fun to "BOO" the slow train when it eventually caught up. Absolutely super ride, really loved it. Gwazi however, *shudder*, i did not enjoy at all. I have written a Florida Trip report but i'm a tad scared of posting it, as it seems to be quite long. Red Benny
I don't think I've ever seen the Matterhorn at Disneyland race, and I've been going there all my life. The ride ops always seem to rush the trains out even though the lines are never really that long. It's too bad, I imagine it would make the ride that much more fun. Homey G.
^^ Post that report man! Folks like me love to read! Brian on Dueling Dragons sez, "Down, Down, Down, Blue Trains going down!"
Canobie Fan
I have been on Gemini at CP with both sides open.. AND 3 trains running both sides... and still not have it race. But of all the Racers I have been on Gemini has raced the best. At Carowinds I went on TR maybe 30 times over 5 days... 2 times it raced... RY at PKD seemed to race or try to race every time I have been on it or at the park DD I have seen go off with just one side going because someone on the other train took to long.. And rhe ice side was just sitting on the lift...
maeryk
SPeaking of duelers.. does Rebel Yell always have one car running backwards now? or does that only happen certain times of the year? (I know they used to do it during Halloween). Saw a trip video from some mexican site that showed one car forwards, one backwards, adn they were definately racing. CoasterFanatic
Rebel Yell always has a backwards side. I am pretty sure that all Paramount racers also do this.
pvcoasterguy
Dueling Dragons sometimes doesn't duel; I've been on it when it hasn't. But, they were running three trains, so I give them credit- it was their only non-duel when I was there. American Eagle races most of the time nowadays. It never used to, however. But, the backwards side always has more brakes on and is on the outside of the huge helix. Jeez Intamin... what a bad idea. (Just kidding... maybe.)
