Shockwave Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 So last weekend I checked out the Leeds Valentines Fair which I got to for the first time this year. I had to fob it off in previous years, but I was glad to be trying it for the first time this year. First impressions were a little dour. No KMG Tango (A TopScan on steroids), no drop tower, and no Ferris Wheel for those top down shots. But even without those big rides, the fair was a lot of fun. The three credits were nothing to shout about. Acutally I'm lying. The Toboggan has plenty to shout about, for all the wrong reasons! If you can imagine being stuck in a giant lunchbox with padding, that's what this ride was like. And the worst thing is I might be doing another one this year! Anyway, the fair had a lot of great flats and fun stuff to do. They even had a beer tent! It wasn't exactly Oktoberfest, but it was still beer! After this day, I'll be hoping to get out to bigger and better fairs in future, with a better camera. Enjoy the photos. I leave you with another shot of the sunset and that Afterburner. Coney Beach, we salute you! Thanks for reading. Why are the two rides on the billboard the ones not at the fair this year? Oh well, that's advertising for you. It wouldn't be a funfair without a wacky blurrty photo. Yeah, this would be an ace ride for TPR. The loser is the person who gets smothered by Barry. But this is my ride, and I'm very picky. I can see why people might ignore the warnings. This photo doesn't really link well, but a Chocolate fountain needs no clever link. Not quite Sunset Boulevard, but it's still a sunset. Life's a Beach. But not Coney Beach today. The sun was beginning to set, so time for some more memories. Booster. As used by Russian Cosmonauts for Space Training. Remember - In Soviet Russia, Booster rides you! Good to see that the first aid team know which ride to keep an eye on. Back to some more rides. And this is not a good idea after a few drinks. But I'm smarter than that. This is what most pubs are like in Britain. The Iron Horse Bar. Sounds like a good way to get a kick in the teeth, especially with Fight Juice on tap! And this would make Derek very happy! Now this makes me very happy. (Sorry Wally.) Last year, Robb, Ed and I came off this close to being very sick. I played it safe this year. And here's one I'd rather forget from Warrington last year. The crazy KMG Experience. One of my favourite flat rides was here. But no, I had to do the rapids instead! And here's another Coney Beach Flashback. Now where's a load of Americans when you need them to break a coaster? This report wouldn't be complete without a shoutout to Jeff Johnson. I'll let the picture do thie rest. Rob was philosophical. "It's not a Toboggan, so it can't be that bad. In fact even Elissa would like this". Magic Mouse. A spinning mouse that doesn't spin very well. But we were here to have some fun, and for the world's only travelling theme park (that's pushing it), it was time to deliver. Sean's reaction was almost the same. No more lunchbox torture for us! "I'm free! Free!" When Lucy starts laughing, she doesn't stop laughing. And with zany rides like this, she'll still be laughing well into next week. And this is about as good as they look. Well it looks nicer than Little A-Merrick-A's! I tried photograhy, but this was about as good as it got. And you do not wanna see my face during this ride. Well it's not like there's much else I can do! Sometimes, all you can do is laugh. Especially when your coaster car is the size of a big Tupperware box. Anyone for a Non-German Tom sandwich? Free range and full of goodness. But being lame and catching the shits was the least of my worries. Because I had an "Oggan" to ride! This is about as good as Wacky Worm photos get. If you've got a better one, post it here with the title "My wacky worm is better than yours and my photography skills aren't bad either". Now full of disease, it was time to get lame and hit up a Wacky Worm. And wouldn't you know, I got the worst of it. For the record, my doctor's check up is next week. I'll let you know if I've got Cholera. Rob and Lucy get ready to be flushed. OK, forget Porta-Lous. They got some Porta-Rapids! They're like a Porta-Lou, but the bowls seat four people. Porta-Lous! They go anywhere, but remember to hold your breath when you go inside. No? Maybe these will? First ride of the day. UK trippers, does this jog any memories? I only agreed to be searched if they had a hot female member of staff. But at funfairs, that's like find trying to find a needle in a student's apartment. So I carried on. So this is "THE Fair". Kinda like "THE place to be". Yes? No? Well let's go look. And here we are! And that's pretty much the whole fair. Not huge, but enough to entertain. Not far to go now... When the road was built, the owner didn't want to leave. So they just built the road aroud the house. And you also pass one of the most crazy places to live anywhere. To get to Leeds, you drive up a big hill. And this is a pretty big hill for England. We're on the way to Leeds!
cprocks22 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Booster. As used by Russian Cosmonauts for Space Training. Remember - In Soviet Russia, Booster rides you! LMAO best caption ever. Great TR, glad you had fun.
SharkTums Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Awesome TR! I remember seeing that motorway sign while it was snowing and there was snow on the ground last March! Toboggans are awesome and filled with hot death. Joey and I squeezed our asses in one TOGETHER 2 years ago!!! That was amazing.
Shockwave Posted February 19, 2007 Author Posted February 19, 2007 ^That must have been like getting laid for Joey!
cfc Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Nice work, Tom--and nice to know that traveling carnivals are very bit as frightening in the UK as they are in the US. In the string of warning signs above, what is meant by "feint hearted"? That those with artificial or mock hearts shouldn't ride?
BarryH Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Great PTR! I should visit the funfair, only to see who I can smother on that ride.
Louise Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Cool! Nice sunset photos too! Toboggan looks entirely evil, I love it.
bulldogmom Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Thanks for the TR- very fun. I wil consider this my multicultural experience for the day. Beautiful sunset pics!
shesaidboom Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 EW!! You didn't tell me this TR involved a Toboggan. I rode one last summer with Jer and I'll never do it again!!!! I shouldn't complain though, he's the one who smacked his head on it. I guess cramming two people inside isn't the smartest idea
cfc Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Cool! Nice sunset photos too! Toboggan looks entirely evil, I love it. I remember riding the Tobaggan at the Stanislaus County Fair back when I was a teenager. The 90-degree lifthill in the tube was pretty freaky, and it smelled like a cross between my Dad's musty old farm shop and a boys locker room--all oily and dank.
socalMAN123 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Great photo TR Tom! I also get sick on those KMG Experiences. That ride is probably the worst rides I have EVER gone on. This fair looks like a lot of fun, even if there was no drop tower! ---Brent
itsme102 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Nice TR. I wish I had fairs like that in my area. The best flats we get are lame zippers....
Jayjay719 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Nice trip report Tom. Looks like you guys had fun. I don't think I will ever get into a Tobaggan, looks painful!
crazyrider06 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Good trip report, love the pictures I’ve never been on a toboggan before looks pretty fun
Jayjay719 Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 ^ Lindsey are you nuts? Lol, that doesn't look fun, looks like a cage of death! Hehe.
IwantRevenge Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Lucky brits and your cool fairs...what do americans get, make a round up and some crappy coaster , yet you get all of these awsomness KMG rides that are cool, then don't me started on the germans, Alpina Bahn, Olyimpia Looping, and Euro Star.
martinb Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 OMG, Toboggans rock! Kinda.... They used to have one of those at Gt Yarmouth Pleasure Beach, I remember loving them as a kid, although I always found it a bit of a 'tight' squeeze getting in and out of the 'Postman Pat' cars, and I was only 14! Great PTR! I wish a fair with credits will come near me!
Divv3k Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Cracking TR Tom! The Toboggan looks messed up! I feel that I need to ride one in some kind of twisted way. How many rides called Shockwave have you rode now?!
cobra_roll06 Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Yeah great TR man! Your right...Toboggans are totally messed up rides imo. Vekoma have some close competition
viking86 Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 And here we are! And that's pretty much the whole fair. Not huge, but enough to entertain. But still far, far better than anything you'll find in Norway.... Nice trip report btw!
Shockwave Posted February 21, 2007 Author Posted February 21, 2007 Cracking TR Tom! The Toboggan looks messed up! I feel that I need to ride one in some kind of twisted way. How many rides called Shockwave have you rode now?! I think it's only 3 so far! That one, the Codona's chairswings and the Stand-up coaster at Drayton Manor.
