SharkTums Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 This seriously needs to end. Mitch puts a lot of work into this poll, and people messing with it just pisses me off. Let's get this back on track, I don't want to see any more posts about 'intentional poor rankings'.
niiicolaaah Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 How on earth did you rank Blue Flash in a tie for #1? It's ment as a joke, just like the actual inclusion of the coaster. Nobody would take the final ranking of Blue Flash seriously anyway... When you mess with rankings like that, it makes it harder to take you seriously when you give your honest ranking. I think that Mitch should ban people who mess with the poll from voting in the future.

Fine, next time I simply leave that thing out...
rollermonkey Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 ^^ Hey, Niiicolaaah, don't worry, I'm sure that the poll's integrity will be maintained this year. Despite the Aussie's best efforts to push their Superman to the top.
DragonKhan Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 ^^ Hey, Niiicolaaah, don't worry, I'm sure that the poll's integrity will be maintained this year. I hope so too. I think this year MANY people are keeping a close eyeon the ballots. No just because of intentional low ratings, but also because of quite a few "wrong" ballots that were created by the online help. I've noticed two and wrote Mitch about it. The result are the "Alpha" tags you see here and there that indicate that that coaster was not moved from it's alphabetical order. One of the mentioned ballots was all alphabetical And about Blue Flash again... Has it ever happened that more that 5 people have ridden it to give it a valid rating? Nope, so no need to worry...
ahecht Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I use a system similar to the "TPR Grouping Method", but I rank my top 9 individually and then rank the rest using the following more specific rankings: 10 = I would go to the park just for this ride 20 = I would definitely ride if I were in the park 30 = I would ride if the line > 30 min 40 = I would only ride if there is no line 50 = I would only ride if I absolutely had to, but I wouldn't enjoy it at all 100 = No way in hell are you getting me on that death machine again! (this last one is reserved for the couple coasters that have actually injured me -- Shockwave at PKD, Psyclone at SFMM, etc.)
rollermonkey Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 ^That's a pretty common way to do it, and it prevents the appearance of alphabetical bias to the polling system.
ParkTrips Posted January 5, 2007 Author Posted January 5, 2007 with all this talk of poll-fixing, there should be someone to sift through the ballots to help Mitch make sure the poll is fairly conducted.

Carnage Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 with all this talk of poll-fixing, there should be someone to sift through the ballots to help Mitch make sure the poll is fairly conducted. Mitch should get a monkey to do it. He could borrow one of the infinite monkeys that are writing Shakespeare. I'm sure they wouldn't miss one out of infinite. Though I guess he'd have to set up some sort of sound proof room so that the monkey's shrieking doesn't keep him up.
DerekRx Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 ^Oh how I would hate to be the assistant who checks every single poll to check its credibility. That's gotta be one really boring hobby. I wonder if they know that the parks in Florida and SoCal are still opened, as well as the stuff in Australia. Then they could ride Superman and actually see if its better than the others. Of course, it's even sadder that someone is needed to do this because some people find humor in messing with a poll.

While I may not agree with the exact ranking, knowing what the top rides are helps me figure out where I want to go next.
the sound Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 Despite the Aussie's best efforts to push their Superman to the top. Its a effing awesome ride though! If we love it, we rank it high!
rollermonkey Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 ^Relax! The wink meant I was being sarcastic! I just hope that you understand how the poll works. If there are 100 people from Australia who rank it #1, but haven't been on anything outside of that country, it can't be #1 in the poll. Most of the Australian ballots this year have about 5 total coasters ranked, all in Australia. It will likely do well this year simply because there are a few people who have ridden coaster outside of Australia and still ranked it #1, but there will likely need to be more head-to-head comparisons with other high ranked coasters before it can be the #1 in the world, even if it is actually an outstanding ride.
downunder Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Of course Superman Escape will get mostly number 1 votes because most people who have ridden it, haven't ridden anything outside Australia, I was impressed by it big time and rated it about 8, with coasters like Ride of Steel, Nitro, Millennium Force and X ahead of it. I rode Superman Escape again on Christmas eve and I still really enjoy it. We have been encoraging people to vote in the poll on our site because finally we have an excellent coaster in Australia (Superman Escape) to vote for, and to also increase awareness of Mitch's excellent poll and get more people participating. I think superman escape will finish in the 30's or 40's because of lack of comparison votes.
robbalvey Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Only a couple of days left: Here's the ballot, due Jan 13 http://www.ushsho.com/scpblt06.txt Poll website: http://www.bestrollercoasterpoll.com/ TPR Guide: http://www.themeparkreview.com/mitch.htm
PKI Jizzman Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Millennium Force all the way, baby.....atleast until I ride SROS.....
rollermonkey Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 ^^ Where's your ballot, Robb? I saw Elissa submitted hers... Never mind, yours is up now, too. Oh, and there's Dan's...
Louise Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Argh, didn't bother with the wood poll but had every intention of doing this one, serves me right for procrastinating, had no idea the deadline was this close, have to try and find time to do it tonight now... Stupid essays!
rollermonkey Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Interesting... I thought I had seen your ballot in there, Lou. I guess not... Enjoy!
Louise Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 ^ Nope, not unless there's an impostor who wants my modest count for some reason! I only have about 80 to do and although I don't have it on paper, I know in my mind what's gonna be roughly the top and bottom ten so... I'll get it done.
bgwfreak Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 My vote has been cast! Red staters rejoice! Oh wait...wrong vote. Don't worry though, I voted #1 for all the boomerangs.
USRoadTripper Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Ok, mines done. Sucks that I ended up riding a really great SLC and a decently great Boomerang this year, because I really wanted to put those lower in my count than I did! Also, I didn't see Looping Star at Beech Bend on there anywhere. Did I miss it or is it not included for some reason? -Julie
Scaparri Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 ^Julie, it would have been classified under "favorite zyklon loop anywhere."
USRoadTripper Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 ^ That's what I would have thought, but it wasn't listed under that at the bottom of the ballot. I left it off because it wasn't specifically included, just in case there was a reason for that (not like it would really effect any other coasters in the poll anyway). -Julie
