^^^Check the chat transcript for hotel details.

As for the Midwest Trip filling, take what I said last night, and add another 5 people that have signed up since then.

Oh, and I haven't gotten the mail yet, checks just started arriving yesterday to those who got them in the mail the first 2 days!

hey robb,

I'm sorry for my lazziness for searching for airline costs on one of my earlier posts. you didn't sound harsh at all and I'm fine with youe comments.

I will be able to go to the midwest trip, and will send my deposit very soon.

also, will Dollywood be included in the "and more"part of the midwest trip?

Two days ago, I really wasn't seriously considering any of the 2007 trips. I mean, they all sounded cool, but I had enough stuff of my own planned, and was thinking more about the possibility of Scandanavia in 2008.

But then I started reading this thread, filled with posts from people who really probably couldn't (or shouldn't) go, for whatever reason. And I thought: Well, why not? It sounds fun. I'm not 12. And I can.

Probably doesn't make much sense, but...the (midwestern) check is in the mail.

So...can I room with someone old?

Dollywood is a major park. Major parks typically are listed as to be a main draw for a trip. The "and more" typically refers to smaller parks.

Further. the trip is essentially an Ohio-Indiana-Wisconsin triangle. Eastern Tennessee is a bit out of the way.

I'd put my money on "No", at least for the main trip itinerary.

Well u guys all have fun with these questions that are worthless on answering since people should read

Off to the beach and to maybe see Hurricane Ernesto....hopefully he stays away. When I come back I'm sure there will be 10 more pages asking questions that are answered....lol...

I'm old. So the people in chat tell me.

I wonder...will we get the Taxi Jam and Gemini Jr. credit during the midwest tour? Maybe Elissa can teach us the fine art of borrowing a kid. If I were to do it, people would probably think I was one of those guys they show on Amber alerts.

I'm not really gonna try and whore myself out on kiddie coasters, strictly because I've never been to ANY of the parks on this trip. Cedar Point? no. Holiday World? no. Wisconsin Dells parks? no. If it was my second/third trip to the parks I would maybe either snag a kid of stow one of my cousins away (they're ages 8-5) for the kiddie coaster credits. Screw the kiddie rides, I'm goin for my first ever SLC credit!

^ Well it's not like it takes all that much time to whore the kiddy coasers at those 3 parks.

Well, possibly the Dells, as you have to physically go to different parks.

But CP and HW wouldn't take long at all to ride the 1 family coaster that each park has. (not counting Jr Gemini).

no I'm not just talking about those 3 parks. I havent been to a single park on the mid-west trip route. Arent I so deprived? This trip going to be an unreal experience for me, alot of firsts will come into play. First session of ERT, first walkback, first intamin giga/tera coaster, first Gravity Group woodie, I can keep going if you want

But I'm counting my chickens too early. First I need to hear the sweet sweet words "you have earned a spot on the trip". Then I'll go fanboy ballistic

-Tex "waiting for the sweet sweet words"

Hi people, I'd love to go on the Midwest Trip. I've read the flyer and as much of the threads as possible, just have a couple of questions. Now I have a budget of about £2400 (about $4000), unless I manage to find a job soon... so do you think, from any past experience, that this will be enough, including flights from the UK? Also might any other people from the UK be willing to meet up at a UK airport before the trip, so we're not all flying alone? It'd make the flights go faster with people to talk to. Thanks

me and there was another 28 year old guy.

I hope £2400 is enough, because I only have around £2000 to spend. And that includes my own trips (To Bgw/pki).

Question for Americans: How is much is a typical weeks car hire in the US? And how old do you need to be? (i'm 23).

I'd be flying from LHR, as it's my local airport.

A weeks rental is around $200-250 for a compact car. You'd have to search arond the rental companies for deals. Unfortunately, you need to be 25 to rent a car.

Not true, I have hired several cars in the US the last couple years and 21 is fine to do that. There are some companies that have a 25 year old minimum but others (like national for example) will do 21 and over. Just be prepared to pay a bit of a surcharge as you are younger than 25...

The surcharge for nearly all companies if you're 21-24 is an extra $25/day. When I go to California next spring, the surcharge for our car rental comes out to more than the actual rate.

Matt

That's a big surcharge.

Some renters in Europe are 25+, but companies that rent to 21+ don't normally add a surcharge.

$200/a week is OK. 2 more questions though - can you take the car into other states, and is there a mileage limit?

It will be a lot more than $200/week if you're <25.

Estimate a weekly rate of $150 or so for unlimited mileage.

Now add $25 x 7 to that = $325.

That's before tax, collision insurance (usually $5-10/day or so), and however much a full tank of gas costs to return it with.

You should be able to take it to other states, but if you plan to return it to somewhere besides where you rented it, costs may go up.
