Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

They're OK, it's worth my time to ride it once or twice when I'm at Noah's, but there's still a lot of missing Waterpark 101 components (like tube slides and racer slides) or more exciting things (like a water coaster or a flowrider) I'd rather see first. If they removed the old body slides they could put new body slides and tube slides on the new tower. A flowrider can go where Looping Starship is where passer-by can see it.

I decided to drive by the park today because I'm hardcore missing the park (offseason withdrawals, anyone?) and I have to say I could see the work being done, so that's exciting! All the rides I could see looked so sad and lonely, and some things (like the Ferris wheel) looked like skeletons. Can't wait to see the waterpark when it's finally done, and can't wait for the park to be open again.

Yeah, Ferris Wheel's look strange when there are no carts on them. Did you happen to take any pictures?

Unfortunately, I didn't get any clear pictures because I was so excited and couldn't hold a phone camera still. I'm sure I'll find myself down near VF sometime again in the nearish future, so if I do I'll attempt that if/when that time comes.

I realize that I might be in the minority here, but what would you think about a Great Bear style pre-drop?

Also, with the positive reception with KI's Banshee, I think our invert (when we get it) will be on the more intense side.

Honestly wouldn't be against an unusual layout, predrop or not. I'd love to see the invert highly visible and close to the paths like Great Bear, but I also want it to mimic Nemesis and use trees and ground as near-miss feet chopper moments.

Totally agree about the intensity factor's importance. Larger inverts are not necessarily more intense just more massive, and therefore not guaranteed to be better ride experiences. Forces and airtime are what's important, not the tallest longest etc. Not saying Banshee isn't intense or awesome, but you can deliver great rides for a lot less cash than Banshee.

As long as there is still a thrilling first drop, I wouldn't mind a Great Bear-style start to an invert. Hopefully it would be a forceful one because Valleyfair needs another intense coaster. The only coaster in the park that is all-around intense is Renegade (Steel Venom and Wild Thing do have their moments though), and it would be nice to have another one. Dave Frazier did say that VF won't be getting a Banshee-sized invert, but that's okay because he didn't say no invert whatsoever. An invert the size of Talon or Afterburn would work just fine.

A clone of either would satisfy me honestly, but something original would blow me away.

Been thinking of more potential names just for fun:

Iron Eagle

Black (or green, or blue, or whatever) Falcon

Iron Thunder

Warbird

Divebomber

Steel Falcon

Asteroid

Nova

White Lightning

Steel Comet

The Invader

The Storm

Wraith

Phantasm

Iron Scream

Turbulence

Vengeance

Skyhawk

Wrath

Jetscream

Wasn't suggesting that we'll get a clone of Talon or Afterburn, it's just that those are examples of inverts that are small but still intense (at least from what I've heard). Unfortunately, if Cedar Fair decided to give VF a clone of something, I fear that it would be the three letters we all hate: SLC.

I know, I was just saying that even a clone of either ride would be awesome for Valleyfair as they're both excellent, and a clone may be more likely/affordable as the blueprints would be all drawn up (but of course a custom is preferred).

I wouldn't worry about an SLC. Cedar Fair doesn't really buy anything from vekoma. If I'm not wrong all the SLC's, Boomerangs and flying dutchmen's were bought before the parks where owned by Cedar Fair or just relocated in the chain

Boomerang at Worlds of Fun and Woodstock Express at Cedar Point was purchased by Cedar Fair from Vekoma. Cedar Fair has worked with Vekoma directly when they relocated their coasters, bringing in all new control systems and refurbishing the trains, or in the case of Carolina Cobra at Carowinds, all new trains. They even call Vekoma to have someone come out and work on their coasters if issues come up. They also do provide parts for some of the Arrow coasters in the chain. So it's easy to say, they have a working relationship with each other.

Like I said previously, it's not out of the realm of possibility for an SLC to be built here. If the price is right, they know what it could bring to the park and they know that it'll be a big hit with GP. I know that if you ask most of the guests at Michigan's Adventure what's their favorite coaster, majority of them will say Thunderhawk even though we enthusiasts know the top coaster is Shivering Timbers. Considering that there are no inverted coasters anywhere in the state of Minnesota, they'll easily be able to market it as the state's only looping roller coaster. They could also order one of the other models as well, it doesn't have to be one of the standard 689M SLCs.

Corkscrew and Rock Bottom Plunge are looping coasters and Steel Venom is an invert...

We'd all ride an SLC at Valleyfair, let's be honest. Not ideal, but still an addition that would bring new elements to the park lineup. Is there a park with both an SLC and B&M invert?

Yes there is. The park is called La Ronde in Canada.

You can see the coaster lineup on RCDB here....
