Exactly. If there was to be a coaster on the amphitheater lawn it would have to be something awfully small. It makes much more sense to remove the northwest section of the parking lot (and rebuild it near the employee dorms) for coaster space.

I thought of another place a coaster could go. Remove amphitheater and carnival games. Put the station in the old scrambler spot. Have the body of the coaster go in the games section and the amphitheater spot. I'm guessing it would have some interaction with the mid-way.

You could put a coaster in the parking lot space that was blocked off with cones last season. Then expand the parking lot to that area where they where digging.

You could relocate wheel of fortune to the WT turnaround, relocate food booths and have the coaster station there. The coaster squeezes through buildings in the area then the body is behind renegade or high roller.

I guess this park isn't as strapped for space as I thought it was, who knew?

And that would put the next coaster where a lot of people here have suspected, right on the old amphitheater site.

I don't know where you got the "...where a lot of people here have suspected..." part from these forums. A few maybe but not a lot. Now, I have seen a lot of people speculate that a flat ride or two could go there but not a coaster which makes much more sense.

Oh come on. That was getting thrown around on these forums months before I even began posting. I guess an invitation to speculate away can't be taken at this point in good fun.

There is kind of a problem with that site being additional parking lot for guests: how do you access it when the booths are four hundred feet after that point? I don't see parking suddenly becoming free... Unless it's just a backup lot for flooding scenarios. Maybe they found the flooded lot and lack of parking was a bigger issue for guests than 3 closed rides.

If they need to redo the booth system to add a new coaster, I think they would. Moving a few booths couldn't possibly be as hard as relocating a ride or demolishing and redoing an area. BTW I think a coaster in the amphitheater spot is reasonable. Maybe a 4D ride like batman at Fiesta Texas in the future, but for our next coaster we are in need something too big to fit in the amphitheater spot, hopefully a B&M next year. They really have to think outside of the box for a new coaster. There certainly isn't a large plot of land splat in the middle of the park. Hope the odds our in our favor!

Do any of you think Opening Weekend will be more crowded than usual this year because of the marathon? Normally, Opening Weekend crowds are relatively light, but I feel that the people participating in the marathon might make the lines longer than they usually are (once the marathon is over).

It was getting thrown around by a handful of people not "...a lot or people..." like you state. Most people realize that turn around in WT where the amphitheater sits now could house a large flat, 2 regular size flats or a very small coaster. Speculate all you want, it is part of the fun of these forums. But with freedom to speculate comes the freedom to criticize or disagree. So if your going to do that your going to need to develop a little thicker skin if someone disagrees with you. I speculate here all the time and not everyone agrees with me. My speculation is that the next full size coaster will sit where Excalibur currently is today. Remove a dog and add a coaster that will make people travel all the way to the back of the park. VF in my opinion needs quality over quantity and from an operational stand point it makes sense money wise. After that I agree with the speculation in this forum that a coaster could go up front and use some of the parking lot and possibly redo the entrance in the process but I don't see that happening until the Dino's leave.

Hard to tell since they have never done this before but I have to imagine it will add more people to the park and it all depends on how many runners sign up and participate. I wonder this too because some of the best times to visit VF are the first 2 weekends of the season before school lets out and the 2 weekends between the end of the season and Haunt since the crowds are usually low. These times seem to attract mostly season pass holders vs. general visitors. Obviously VF is hoping this event will bring more people in at this slower time of year.

I think there are a lot of spots a coaster could go with out crushing excalibur, they just have to get creative. Also Renegade and Soak city are towards the back of the park. Why would visitors not go to the back of the park when there are two prime attractions in the area? I agree we need quality, but quantity is also important. I think VF will hang on to Excalibur a while longer but I do see it going maybe 10 years down the road. Disagree all you want, just my thoughts.

My skin is plenty thick, thanks for caring . There's only a couple handfuls of people that post regularly on these forums, so a handful is still "a lot." And at least part of a coaster could fit in the amphitheater site, travel beyond it over the plaza, and return. I never said an entire coaster would be within the confines of the amphitheater space in that post. The only kinds that could would be a boomerang, a mouse, or a stingray as far as I know.

I fully agree with you that it would behoove the park to put the next coaster in Excalibur's spot, it makes the most sense as far as crowd flow and getting people deeper into the park. But they are making surprising moves.

If the tollbooths do get moved to allow access to a new part of the lot, I have a feeling it might accompany a revision of the drive leading to the parking lot as well (if the booths are moved up too far, where would cars wait? Not on the highway) and include the new sign. Maybe we're due for a Carowinds treatment after all.

I'm pretty sure that he meant the Excalibur part of the park, which is a pretty long walk for only a couple rides.

I hope when VF gets a new coaster, its lift and sign really pop like Fury325. Excalibur is the only ride in the park with a really nice sign. High roller and Wild Thing have lights but they are weak, I really want a pop like Fury325's lift hill.

I love that idea. Even Wild Thing would look great with an LED package like that. They're so bright that even the dark paint on the lift would look vivid. Get some on Power Tower too, it will stand out like the Washington Monument at night. Throw in a Windseeker and Valleyfair could be its own light show from one edge of the park to the other.

With Cedar Fair's recent trend of going all out entrance signs, it's certainly possible that VF could go the same route with the sign for their next major attraction. I think High Roller's lights are perfect for that coaster type, but it would be nice if Wild Thing got a new lighting package, although that's not a necessity.

Should Cedar Fair attempt to create iconic centerpieces for its parks like Disney? Great America has its carousel and fountain, the Kings parks have the Eiffel Towers, and Canada's Wonderland has its mountain...there aren't many parks without one.

What would Valleyfair's be? Or does it already have one?

If you look carefully at the track right before entering the tunnel, you can tell that's it a darker track color. Obviously they made it that way to make the tunnel seem darker.

Wild Thing and/or Power Tower would probably be considered VF's most iconic landmark(s) because they're the rides that really make a visual statement.

Maybe Valleyfair should build a giant Ice Castle or Igloo as its center piece! The Igloo could house a dark ride of which we do not have. In case someone is about to respond with "What are you thinking", I'm only kidding.

Good deal because we need as many people who like to have fun and post in the VF forums as much as possible. When you make such a dramatic statement like,"I guess an invitation to speculate away can't be taken at this point in good fun." I was so worried.

From my experience as an employee, Sunday afternoons in the fall are by far the slowest/best times to go. Opening weekend is sort of slow. Who else is running? I'm doing the 5k

This is so true! Sunday's during Haunt are a perfect time for visiting VF and experiencing low crowds. Unfortunately/fortunately I am also a football junkie like a lot of other people which I think is one of the main reasons why that time of year on Sundays is a slower time for visitors. Good luck on the run and hopefully you can recap your experience here and let us know how it went in terms of crowds and everything.

I drove by this evening anyone notice that there is a small bull dozer sitting in the field by the front gates? Anything going on for there 40th anniversary next year? If we don't get a new coaster 2016 I'm hoping for a new giant thrill ride like a Max Air 150 foot like at Cedar Point.
