Homer Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 SPECIAL THANKS to Milo of Westcoaster for uploading these videos. Anyways, were all familiar with cheesy coaster specials. The endless TOP 10 XTREME! shows on the Discovery channel with the ditzy girls that are all "OMG DIS RIDE! AHHA AHH AHH!" Well, cheesyness was in this 1980's special too. Hosted by Matt Dillon, its just funny to listen to this actor think he's a know it all when hes like "Uhh" every few seconds. Also, for those of you looking for some unique coaster music videos, you'll love these links. Including classic footage, a Zombie ACEr, and more! Wild Rides 1/6 Colossus http://youtube.com/watch?v=z_G1ONJets4 Wild Rides 2/6 Great American Scream Machine http://youtube.com/watch?v=R4pRk0C3H-s Wild Rides 3/6 Ringling Circus World http://youtube.com/watch?v=5o6uaUQ0BqI Wild Rides 4/6 Roller Coaster History http://youtube.com/watch?v=eOESYhVZpEY Wild Rides 5/6 Mindbender http://youtube.com/watch?v=j9UzM86omc4 Wild Rides 6/6 Texas Cyclone http://youtube.com/watch?v=CuwupcpGbvM Enjoy the videos!
Erik Johnson Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 LOL, I think you just found the perfect music video for Parktrips.
CoasterFanatic Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I tried ordering "Wild Rides" from Amazon once and got a DVD with a half-naked lady laying on the hood of a car. I am not making this up.
Simon Baynham Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I have a few copies of the 1982 Wild Rides special with Matt Dillon... but for real cheezyness overload you need to check out the 1988 programme "ROLLERCOASTER THRILLS/GO FOR A RIDE." Yup! It's the one at SFMM with the ice-cream man! Pure brilliance! (See VHS1 & VHS4 at rollercoastermedialibrary.com) Don't you agree Mr Alvey? Simon Baynham (UK)
TheGreatOne Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Wow...it seems like he's stoned in this video. Best line: "This dude loves his coasters, man" -Bryan "He sounds like Spicoli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High" Wood
Calvin Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 "Hi. I'm Matt Dillon. I TOTALLY DIG COASTERS." I got about halfway through the Mindbender one when the terrible 80's music made me violently ill.
Reon Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 ZOMBIE ACEr!!! That pretty nice to see that historical segment, and the other parts were pretty funny..
Robbie Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Dang, Those people were being thrown around by Texas Cyclone
ThatFalafelGirl Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I think all of their budget went into the music video part, so they only had enough film for one take of Matt' i really dig coasters' Dillon's intro. "Okay Matt, get up there and introduce the coaster, and try not to look like TOO much of a prat." Sadly, Matt Dillon's trapper keeper said it was Opposite Day. -Falafel
vjgx Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 19 seconds through the first link -- laughing my head off! By the way -- His first coaster was also my first coaster... I feel ashamed to share such a trait with such a lame person, dang it!!
nemesis-storm Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 OMFG ! All of those clips were awesome, thanks for sharing them all with us. Even the slightly incorrect 'History of rollercoasters' was very enjoyable. I can see next years TPR video contest having a parody or two of these clips. Couple of questions What happened to the pink 'Care Bear' cuddly toy in clip one ?, the dude had the bear at start, he seems to drop it & at the end it's back in his hands Is Mr Zombie, Meatloaf ? Again awesome clips !
Golfie Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 LOLZORZ!!! It's DALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jumboshrmp Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Wow, those videos were just terrible. The narrator dude, he is one of the worst actors I have ever seen.
milo Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 wow, i just saw this thread. i couldn't dream my youtube post would get so much mileage! glad everyone is enjoying these clips. i may have to upload my copy of American Screams from 1978, hosted by Vincent Price. no kidding.
TheStig Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Oh my god, Mat Dillon is an idiot and that zombie is a child molester! I love how he says "American Coaster Uhhh Enthusiasts". One LAST thing, if you go 1:38 into the last one, you can see Earl from "My name is Earl!" Colin C
Robbie Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 In every clip they do atleast one thing not allowed at an amusement park
odene497 Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I have a few copies of the 1982 Wild Rides special with Matt Dillon... but for real cheezyness overload you need to check out the 1988 programme "ROLLERCOASTER THRILLS/GO FOR A RIDE." Yup! It's the one at SFMM with the ice-cream man! Pure brilliance! (See VHS1 & VHS4 at rollercoastermedialibrary.com) Don't you agree Mr Alvey? Simon Baynham (UK) I actually have Roller Coaster Thrills! My grandparents had it, I borrowed it a long time ago, and never ended up giving it back. It's hilarious how he doesn't ride the roller coasters, he "Thinks them"
KrakenKing Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Hahaha, I have the one with the Ice Cream man too... it actually showed Shockwave when it was still at SFMM... and the one I remember most was how awesome they made XLR8R sound... ha.
steel Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Oh my god, that was quite possibley the cheesiest thing I have ever seen. I just finished Colossus and GASM. Matt Dillion can act about as well as a fourth grader. More importantly, OMGZ! LIEK I DIDN'T KNO COLOSSUS WENT UPSIDE-DOWN!!!!!!!!!11111!!!23324!!!!SiXeleventyfive2!@!#1!
KrakenKing Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Yeah, I noticed that too... it had about 5 barrel rolls! Awesome! *Sarcasm*
weeow Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I only liked the Mindbender video and the GASM video because those are some of my favorite coasters. That little kid was such a good soul to let that zombie acer ride with him.
Homer Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 ^Weeow, the reason why the kid let the zombie ACEr ride with him is because the kid wanted the airtime. Gotta love old PTC trains...
weeow Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Oh of course. Why couldn't I see that before? When he (zombie ACEr) peeked over the railing on the coaster in one scene he looked like a gopher thingy.
