SimpleAndClean46
So, I've been coming to Kennywood for basically my entire life, and was so excited to hear about SwingShot last year. I couldn't wait until my High School's picnic the day after school let out to ride the new ride back in June, and I was extremely impressed with it. Lots of "it seems really really really really high up" moments with a dash of floater air. A lot of other people seemed really bored with it though...how could this be? So, for those of you who have ridden it, what do you think?
viking86
The S&S Screaming Swing at Thorpe Park didnt impress me at all, but there seems to be quite alot of people who loves those rides. I thought it felt too controlled, like many other S&S rides... Its definately fun, but I prefer rides that are more out-of-control. I guess thats why I dont find Balder as amazing as most other people, but thats another discussion...
ECZenith
I really like the smaller, upcharge versions of the ride so I assume I would like the larger, free rides. The burst of air that pushes you is pretty exciting, and the restraints feel very open and make most people think twice before putting there hands out. SimpleAndClean46
Yeah...I've ridden the ride countless times and still won't put my hands up. But yeah I do get what you're saying about the whole "controlled" feeling, but I think it's great nonetheless.
TheGreatOne
SwingShot is great. It's a ton better (and more powerful) than Knott's Screamin' Swing.
SimpleAndClean46
I didn't get a chance to ride the one at Knott's...I was there but I thought it was ridiculous that you had to pay for it. I can understand having to pay for rides like Skycoasters, but why a flat ride?
Guest
Well they were just testing Screamin Swings with the 4 seat models. Now that they know people like them, they built the models that can handle more people. Now the upcharge for that many seats on KW's swing no one would pay for. I got a chance to ride it with the media and it was a lot of fun, I did have my hands up, and we even rode it in the pouring rain. Ouch! Just for a chance to get on camera, right? I did get the chance to ride it again about 2 weeks later, and it was just as good, and the line was no more then 10 minutes tops. I will be riding it again next Saturday, I need my fix. DerekRx
Its a good ride, if the cycle is long its even better (Kennywood's blows Thorpe's version out of the water because of the longer cycle). The restraints are comfortable and not too restricting, lots of open air feeling. Great speed and height too, but gosh those things are loud! They sound like Jeff Johnson snoring. CoasterFanatic
Been on them at Knotts, Dorney, Thorpe and Kennywood and Kennywood's stands apart from the others. While all the other hit 2 swings max at the top height, Kennywood's does about 5-6. It also seems a lot more powerful than Thorpe's.
pianojohn
I loved the one at Wild Adventures in Valdosta, GA. I will be going on CP's Skyhawk Labor Day weekend, so it should be just as fun!
coastakid
I haven't been on the Swingshot at Kennywood, But I have been on Thunder "N" Lightning at Lake Compounce. Great Ride overall, and very nice floater air at the tops of the swings. My new 1# flat ride!...only worth paying for if it's a really long cycle... Dailey Enterprizes
I rode the SwingShot yesterday and even with one arm working, it was a decent wait. That reminds me, does anybody know how Lake Compounce's Screamin Swing is doing? Edit: I guess "Thunder N' Lightning" is doing well, but LC isn't charging extra, right? SimpleAndClean46
Only one arm was working at Kennywood yesterday? That's odd...I bet that looked REALLY weird.
okinawaboy11
Uh, uhm, If it has more swings than CP's then, yes It's good. I really liked CP's. But wish it had more swings.
Dailey Enterprizes
^^ Yea it's weird looking, but it wasn't unusual since the Aero 360 was also closed. I hear it may open soon and also, the Phantom was running great
jamesdillaman
I really like KW's ride more than CP. I guess CP's is bigger (?) but I like the cycle at KW a lot better. I think it's a great ride. -James Dillaman
CoasterEricHP
It was WAY better than I expected. I wasn't expecting to get the amount of air and it to seem that fast while you were on it. Great ride! The only bad thing is the last time I was there people on the ride thought it was funny to spit on people in the queue where the ride goes over.. but the line was never more than 30-40 minutes with both arms up and running. Lake Compounce's isn't any money> It has been running very well from what I have seen, and heard with it. I love Thunder "N" Lightning!
shesaidboom
The only one I've been on is the Kennywood one, but I'm a little surprised to hear that it has the longest cycle out of the other ones mentioned. I loved it, but actually thought the cycle was pretty short.
SimpleAndClean46
Well, I watched a video of Thorpe's Rush, and Kennywood's definitely has a longer cycle...it also seems as if Kennywood's gets up to the maximum height a lot quicker...after only about 3 swings it's in full swing. It's hella-loud though.
FeelTheFORCE
Swing Shot is good but Skyhawk at CP is better, in my opinion, because its just a tad bit higher and faster.
tngdiablo
I went on both SwingShot and Skyhawk and I must say that I thought SwingShot was better. Skyhawk does beat it on height and speed, but it also only reached maximum height twice. SwingShot put you up at its top height so much more, it was a very good ride. Hoping to get on Thunder "N" Lightning soon, I love the Screamin' Swings.
CoasterExpert13
I thought Swing Shot was fun when I got my first ride on it June 16th.....but it really didn't have any feeling to it. Like it didn't give my stomach that queasy feeling. Nonetheless it was great, I like it better than Areo-360 although thats fun too.
SimpleAndClean46
Well the Aero 360 has been closed all summer...hmm....wonder if they're having some major problems? We asked a ride op what the problem was and they said they needed a part for it from Italy.
Dailey Enterprizes
Well goodnews, I saved a bunch of money on my car insurance... and the Aero 360 just reopened. I heard Kennywood was waiting for a part from Italy, which isn't too surprising because that always seems to be the case for their Pitt Fall which always seems to have a broken down car.
