Jew
Went to the park for a few hours on Friday... It's still the same, medicore, but slighty improved since the "new" management team came on park. My observations: -B:TR had a line almost out to the entrance. Wasn't going to bother waiting to find out if they didn't open up switchbacks, but the line stretching out that far was enough to scare us away. -The Skytower Museum already feels like it needs some TLC. The GASM model is just sitting on a wooden box, not bolted down or anything...a little kid nearly knocked it over. The "plaques" are still laminated pieces of paper, and I noticed a few pieces of concept art are showing wear and tear. -Johnny Rockets just doesn't work at SFMM. Great food...that takes way too long to get ready. They had all the windows open and a TON of kitchen staff, plus I saw the supervisor and manager helping wherever they could, but it still took about a 1/2 hour to get to the window to order with only 4 people in front of us. -No new work on Terminator. -The signs on the ticket booth officially say what we have already discussed about the Xtreme Pass: discounted Q-bot+same benefits as last year. No way I am renewing. -They are advertising a new 2 park season pass for $90.00. I might get that instead.
SuperShawn
I was at the park on Turkey Day and had an interesting experience with X2. X2 had a 2 hour wait most the day, so we decided to wait until the end of the night to get a ride. at 7:30 we got in line after being told the ride had been down for about 30 minutes. by 8pm, they had it up and running again, and we had what should have been about a 20 minute wait... well.... the new computer systems were causing problems and by 8:45 the ride didn't want to work so we were told we were not going to be able to ride. Now here's where management comes in and says we can go down to guest relations for a comp of some sorts, or go ride Tatsu.... We went for the comp since we were tired and ready to go. We were lead down to the GR and for a comp they gave us a free day pass to the park. I thought that was a pretty groovy thing for them to pass out to everyone. Although our group all has seasons passes. But still. Also is there any word floating around if SFMM is going to put in some more flat rides to replace the ones they took out? wiyoh1984
I will be visiting Six Flags MM in January, does anyone know if any rides will be closed for scheduled maintenance or anything in that nature?
gotdane
I'm sure Deja Vu will still be down. I've gone in January a couple times before and I don't remember anything significant being closed.
MagicMountainMan
^^Deja Vu will still be down. Otherwise everything should hopefully be open. Someone puked, and they cleaned it. There your "filled in" without me being there and without the help of Jahan =P Genius! I've never seen the powder stuff before though, that was new. coasterking2981
Kinda off topic, but does anyone know what happened to Gionalva (spelling?) after they designed and built SFMM's Goliath?
robbalvey
Kinda off topic, but does anyone know what happened to Gionalva (spelling?) after they designed and built SFMM's Goliath? They built Titan at Six Flags over Texas the following year. --Robb
Bolliger&Mabillard
Giovanola Is a steel manufacturer. They manufacture steel for buildings, bridges, coasters, etc. They only built three coasters (Goliath, Titan, and Anaconda). Interesting fun fact is that Walter Bolliger and Claude Mabillard were forer enginners for Giovanola. At the time of their employement with the firm, The led many of Intamins projects as Intamin has it's track fabricated by Giovanola (Hence why older Intamins resemble modern day B&M's, and why Giovanola resemble B&M's; they own the patent) They still fabricate track for Intamin to this day. TheBannedKid
Really, because I can't find any trace of them now. They have a site that's been down for a few years and I thought they went bankrupt and failed to pull out of it.
Bolliger&Mabillard
Well They could be defunt now. The last ride I know for sure they fabricated for Intamin was Xcelerator.
Airtime&Gravity
I thought that they went bankrupt because B&M sued them for patent infringement? is that true, or am I just confused?
stellaclose
Found this on Wikipedia Giovanola was one of the prominent thrill ride manufacturers in the world, until it went bankrupt in 2004. It was well-known for thrill rides and also built electrical power stations, water storage tanks, pipelines, highway bridges, and many other steel products. The company started out as a small metal forging shop, founded by Joseph Giovanola in 1888. The company was based in Monthey, Switzerland. During its last years in business, Giovanola fashioned steel behind the scenes for companies such as Intamin and Bolliger & Mabillard. The company also built its own thrill rides and roller coasters. Examples of Giovanola roller coasters are Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain, Titan at Six Flags Over Texas, and Anaconda at South Africa's Gold Reef City. PeoplemoverMatt
^ Not completely. I'd be interested to know where all their assets went and who might currently be using them today. The patents especially.
robbalvey
Something interesting today posted to the LA Times Blog: http://travel.latimes.com/daily-deal-blog/index.php/six-flags-qatar-3468/#more-3468 Closer to home, Shapiro said Six Flags Magic Mountain will be getting another roller coaster in 2010 and a Wiggles World kiddie land sometime after that. Shapiro also said that if Terminator Salvation: The Ride proves popular at Magic Mountain when it opens in May 2009, the wooden coaster would wind up at another Six Flags park in 2010. vedved82491
^Hmm well he sure wasn't afraid to answer everyone's questions for the next two years... I'm not used to such solid speculation, if that makes sense, but if it's true, then the next few years seem interesting... ...although I still don't see flats anywhere in the mix there. coasterdude5
It will be interesting to see what type of coaster he looks into for 2010. My guess is it would be something that would coincide with a Wiggles World type of area. Maybe something bigger. Side note, I could see a Terminator Salvation coaster showing up at one of the Texas parks.
coasterperson
where could SFMM possibly build another coaster its totally packed they would have to destroy a coaster to build a coaster
coasterdude5
^ Like R&E always say, if a park wants a new coaster, they'll find room!
coasterking2981
where could SFMM possibly build another coaster its totally packed they would have to destroy a coaster to build a coaster Six Flags owns a lot of land that sits behind the park. They wouldnt have to worry about room at all, they'd just simply expand the park boundaries. Cant say the same for Knott's though My hope is, if its a big thrilling coaster, that we'd get a B&M Dive Machine. If something a little more family friendly, then perhaps another GCI Woodie or something like Pony Express but a lot better.
robbalvey
where could SFMM possibly build another coaster its totally packed they would have to destroy a coaster to build a coaster OMG! There is PLENTY of room! I can think of at least 10 places inside the park you could EASILY fit a new major coaster let alone a small family coaster. --Robb
John Peck
Theres always a Tony Hawk's Big Spin to think about. Jay Thomas said it himself that they plan on reclaiming the "most coasters" record, but personally, I think they have enough of them. One ride that would be great would be a Wave Swinger themed like SFoG's "Gothem City Crime Wave" right in that spot in front of the Gothem City Gate, that Yo Yo is Half-down anyway. And the other thing I noticed that the park could do is remove that old monorail and station
gotdane
SFMM has plenty of room w/in park boundaries. Thats for sure... Also...I just noticed that a baby-Riddler had been built by Intamin at La Ronde 3 years before B&M built Riddler at SFMM: from rcdb.com Interesting, no? It's even right next to a Batman clone. LOL. John Peck
^ That coaster, my friend, is nearly identical to SFMM's old Stand-Up, Shockwave which ran from 86 to 88, which in turn got moved to Great Adventure and Astroworld soon after. http://www.rcdb.com/ig51.htm?picture=
itnotfair
^ Shockwave had the cheesiest 80's commercial. I searched for it but I couldn't find it. It had all these dudes that looked alike, wearing shades, riding the coaster with completely stoic expressions. Anyone remember that? Another new coaster at SFMM sounds great to me. I'm almost positive I know what its going to be, too. That being said, I'll be good and leave speculation to the rumor thread!
