P. 2239: Superman: Escape from Krypton permanently closed

Recommended Posts

I'll be there tomorrow too.

X2 won't close if it is not windy in the morning and gets windy later in the day. It will close if it it is windy in the morning and it will remain closed for the rest of the day unless it stops pretty quick.

Winds are supposedly gonna be a sustained 20MPH until about noon (from early morning, well before park opens), then lets up to around ~10MPH from then on .... does anyone know at what rough wind speeds do rides generally start going down at?

Surprised to see that the Mountain is closed on Xmas day, plus no NYE event.

They aren't Disneyland, the crowd on Xmas day wouldn't be big enough to pay for the employees needed.

Agreed. I did see great reports from people regarding their NYE events though. It's a shame they aren't doing it this year.

Lex Luthor and X2 will go down above anything around 12 MPH and then Scream would be next around 20 MPH. Riddlers probably not until 25-30.

Gold rusher valleyed Sunday night so they might close it when it is windy now.

What?????

Cedar Point (which has the dumbest wind policy ever) doesn't even shut the Sky Ride down until it gets to about 15 MPH and Raptor, Gatekeeper and Dragster don't close until about 25? Why do they need to close X2 for 12 MPH winds? That seems insane to me. 12 MPH winds are basically just a light breeze.

I think those quoted wind speeds are a little low. I know Lex shuts down with wind speeds around 40 as measured at the top of the tower. They want to protect the cables from hitting together.

Yes, today could be a repeat of Sunday's wind closures...

So far this morning just a wisp of a breeze perhaps 3mph.Looks like its going to be around 75 degrees today and should be nice.

Sunday past heck ya winds must have hit gusts in the 60mph range during the day and sustained winds in 30-40 range it was epic and brutal.

You'd think a park that's located at the base of a canyon/mountain area, where it's almost constantly windy, would make a little extra effort to help make sure its major rides don't have to be closed because of minor wind.

Considering X2 trains are basically giant sails, and anything 400' tall (Superman, Luthor) is going to have issues with high wind.

Yeah X2 has always been extra vulnerable to wind, and the old X trains were even more so. What could the park really do to "help make sure its major rides don't have to be closed because of minor wind"? How does SFMM stop the wind?

^ Almost a full 3 parking lots of cars. Monday was into overflow (3 full lots). It's been extremely busy. Goliath opened late. I walked by at 11:45 and the line was out to the lockers already. I'm sure they didn't have all the switchbacks open that soon.

I walked back to Scream at 3:45 before I left, and it was out to the entry way. That ride is rarely busy especially with Colossus closed now. Nothing else is back there.

This has got to be the dumbest complaint about SFMM I think I have ever seen. And I've been reading this thread since day 1! SFMM has been improving their operations in nearly every way for the last couple of years. Perhaps its a good sign that we have resorted to complaining about SFMM's inability to control wind.
