  1. Iron Mean Streak? One can hope. Iron Streak? Mean Steel? Mean Iron? I really don't like any of the names How about "Steel Streak"? Brown Streak!
  2. Really guys, can't your find something else to whine about??? Would you like some cheese to go with your wine?
  3. I didn't know this was an viable option in the past. That would've been a bad idea IMO. As much as people bitch about the park here, it's my favorite park here in the U.S.
  4. I didn't realize that. Thanks for letting me know. I thought he was just a jerk. The following year we had Claude from B&M, and he said he always wants to be the first on his new rides.
  5. A little more padding might be nice, but personally I'd hate to see them get different trains. I love that you aren't stapled into your seat like you are on more modern coasters, and that wouldn't be worth trading in just for a more open, comfy train. Yes, new trains would be perfect! I remember at one Coastermania meeting (we used to have them in the afternoon not anymore), Ron Toomer was the guest and he said I'd never ride one of the coasters I designed. That says it all. May he rest in peace.
  6. I was at Discovery Kingdom today. Nice touch letting in season pass holders 1 hour earlier! I really felt sorry for the ride-ops this evening. It was soooo cold tonight, and they were open until 9pm. I left at 5, once the sun went down. I thought there was a minimum temperature to operate coasters at. It was 42 when I left, and that fell into the 30's at closing. One gripe I've got to add. They were selling Hot Chocolate for $6.99. That was for all you can drink toda,y and a souvenir mug. That definitely is a little steep!
  7. ^ I totally agree about Maggie's airtime. The only thing that could make it better IMO, would be to get different trains. Something with some padding, not the hard plastic that is used. Also a little more room to enter and exit the car would be good too. I'm not a big guy, but its difficult getting in and out of Maggie's trains because of the lap bar.
  8. ^ You're exactly right about Dragster. I've gotten there just as the ride was reopening many times, and it was just a walk to the platform. Timing is everything!
  9. Wow, I'm a local and didn't know anything about this. It would be good for tourism. We used to have (many years ago) a 6 Flags water park down here, just off I95. It's now a shopping mall. I just wish someone would put some money and effort into the Dania Hurricane woodie, that's just rotting for years.
  10. ^ With current park management the answer is no. They're more interested in becoming a "family park." I guess they think they can compete realistically with Disney down the street.
  11. ^ I can't afford a resident daily pass to Disney. You'd need to get a mortgage for a lifetime pass. Besides for me, there's nothing I need to ride at that price. I've been there once since I moved to Florida in 1989.
  12. I hope they do something special for it's 50th birthday in 2014!
  13. I'm utterly amazed looking at the previous 3 posts on Blue Streak. I've made this comment on my love of Blue Streak, and was slammed for it. It's my favorite ride in the park because of the airtime, comfortable seats, and normally no lines.
  14. ^ Nooo, if they tear it down (I'm hoping), they need to add a GCI Woodie. I love the Blue Streak , but they need a good big Woodie!
  15. I would do it in a minute, but it must be chain wide. I've been buying Cedar Fair and 6 Flags season passes for years now. Because of my job and travel that I do I spend 50 - 60 days per year at these parks. I'll be at 6 Flags Discovery Kingdom this Saturday and Sunday. I think I'd get 6 Flags before Cedar Fair. Just my preference.
  16. Yeah that whole ground liquefaction thing didn't end well. Even today people don't realize that this area received the most violent shaking of anywhere besides the epicenter. The fault snapped like a rubber band straight in our direction, accounting for the freeway collapses at the 5/14 and another bridge about a mile further north up 5. Also keep in mind that there wasn't just one earthquake. There were more aftershocks than I could ever hope to count. They weren't your garden variety 2.3's either. These were big, serious earthquakes in the 4 and 5 range. They may not have caused the damage the main quake did, but for a good six months or more, aftershocks struck almost every night. It tapered off after a while but we were still having aftershocks here & there through 2000. Those rides took that pounding, including Psyclone built in the dry lake bed whose soil was subject to ground liquefaction. People talk about Psyclone, but I don't think any of those rides were quite the same after the quake. Viper, Revolution, Colossus, Ninja, Jet Stream were all there for it. Psyclone did get It worst of any of them, though. That ride was built to jostle riders around, but the extra give created by the quake's impact on the structure really messed with that. I really didn't realize MM took such a hit from that earthquake. I can't remember the first time I rode Psyclone, but it was very rough the first time I rode it. I tried several visits afterwards, but stopped riding it.
  17. ^ Maybe the chain was too short, and they need a chain stretcher! Just kidding...
  18. ^ I saw Sky Screamer stuck up with people on it 3 times yesterday. There maybe more, but that's the ones I saw.
  19. ^ Amen brother! You've got that 100% right. Good rideops make all the difference...
  20. ^ I was there today and all restraints got released.
  21. How is that Premier's fault? The ride was designed without the need for seat belts. Six Flags decided to add them after the fact. A well designed ride would allow release of just a row of restraints, not the entire train's restraints. This adds to dispatch times because people don't listen to the announcement to not pull down the restraints.
  22. I was on the first ride of the day on Superman, and it now has seat belts! The rideop told me today was the first day for the belts. It doesn't change the ride experience, but dispatches takes a lot longer. If the lap bar is pulled down by the rider with out the seat belt being fastened all lap bars must be released. Good design Premier Rides! They tell you several times to not pull down on the bars, but people are idiots. Six Flags has really gone off the deep end on their new safety kick IMO.
  23. Coastermania 2014 confirmed on Point Buzz for Friday June 6. The countdown is on...
  24. I drove by the Hurricane several times on my way to working at a hospital in Miami. Status: Still standing, rotting, and nothing going on.
  25. This is so very very sad. It looks like a war zone after the bombing. I really miss and loved the Big Dipper. I really find it hard to believe that Cedar Fair has let this deteriorate like that. Even more so, the local residents letting this eyesore continue...
