I have no idea how the 360 thing is going to work, and yes, it does look rather unsafe(I've crashed into people on REGULAR slides before, so this is just asking for it!) but hey, if one opens nearby you can bet I'll be first in line to ride! I love how steep the drop is. However I doubt that landing into a pool will be a big problem, especially seeing how from what I can tell in the 2nd drawing, there is no pool. They stop at the bottom fo the bowl and take the stairs out of it. Though this does leave me a bit confused... Where does the water go? It's not exactly fun sliding across a drain gutter opening. The race also looks great! I'm so glad to see for the first time a proper racing slide that actually involves TURNS!!! I love racing, but seriously, racing slides can be so boring.y ou can usually tell who wins right from the start. I also went to their website and discovered a whole bunch of other neat things. Thanks for posting! It's a really cool find!

New game - Project: Roller Coaster
FLIPDUDE replied to uberg's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
^He already mentioned in the video description not to ask, because he doesn't know. I know I already suggested the idea of making anormla turn to you, but seeing as it was just brought up again, I think this would be as good a time as any to say, I think turns should be possible. I think it would really be annoying to have to make a half loop at the edge of every coaster. If turns were possible you could even make it backtrack on a completely flat area. Even if it were only possible to make flat ones, to make things easier for you, graphics-wise. -

Theme Park Review 2010 Trip Flyers!
FLIPDUDE replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I want to go on the combined america trip so much... Sadly, consdering airfare+spending money together is about an extra $2000 I can't afford to. (I mean, I can, but I think emptying my bank account compeltely is probably not a good idea). I might see if maybe my parents might be willing to pitch in a little, fund-wise, because Indiana Beach, Holiday World, Dollywood, and Wisconsin Dells all together in the same trip, not ot mention every OTHER park on the trip has a minimum of 10 coasters, is just too good a trip to let slide by. -
The skills of todays coaster-designers...
FLIPDUDE replied to GeorgeT's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Listen, while it's undeniable that screeching past ravines of blood and monster entrails into a corkscrew is fun in coasters like "Nemesis", a simple, themingless coaster, with a borderline plain looking layout like the Voyage or El Toro can be alot MORE fun. Just because you don't feel like you're dodging metallic robot aliens in the depth of the amazon doesn't mean the ride itself isn't breathaking. Granted, alot of rides are made better by it, but sometimes there's simply no need for theming. -
The skills of todays coaster-designers...
FLIPDUDE replied to GeorgeT's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, not everything is up to the designers. alot of it has to do with the parks. especially now that the economy isn't all that great and parks want something safe and cheap rather than some extravagant endevour. Also, a park that doesn't focus on theming wouldnt suddenly insit on paying 2 extra millions just to ahve a ride be fully themed. But there are plenty of innoventions in the last couple of years. beginning with 4D coasters and moving on to simply innoventive layouts like many of the new intamin rollers. I can see where you might be coming from, but we are no longer in the golden age of Coney Island, where every new attraction unleashed upon the market is a breathtaking new phenomenon, the wheel, as well as the upstop wheel, has already been invented. As for the stopping-while-the-ride-has-some-speed thing. A coaster that goes up to 80mph will need a whole lot of track to let it slow down all the way back... even if a park has a nice budget, that's still goping tobe very expensive and require alot of room. Not to mention alot of designers like to keep the rider breathless from the start to the finish. -
THORPE PARK's New Queueing System
FLIPDUDE replied to Koolkid's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You say that as if it were a positive thing, but truth is that when I was there it was so unclear that there was a signle rider line that I ended up waiting 2.5 hours for saw. -
Should B&M ever make a launch coaster
FLIPDUDE replied to madmagic200's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I thought about that for awhile, and though B&M does stick with usually tried designs; the invert, the flying, the floorless and the drop machine were all untried before they were introduced and all of those turned out to be successful. I think they issue B&M probably has is the reliability of launches. It just seems like every launched coaster has some form of issues that hinder complete operation, or it just explodes and wont move (Ring sitter). Until the technology significantly improves, I doubt we will see it. Very good argument. B&Ms for the most part are very reliable, at least from my experience. I don't remember the last time I went to a park and a B&M was closed through the day, whereas launches act up all the time. However, if I may go off subject to the "tired and true" point, I do think it's about time B&M spiced things up layout wise, and not just in the department of where the rider is facing, and car design. -
THORPE PARK's New Queueing System
FLIPDUDE replied to Koolkid's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If I didn't know any better I would seriously start to think that Thorpe and the other Tussaud's parks are taking the "No publicity is bad publicity" thing too far and are just making up semi-plausible nonsense to get attention. The only reason I'm saying "If I didn't know any better" is because I doubt changing the signs will really hit the headlines on CNN, but honestly... What is up with those guys? -
Colossus Backwards
FLIPDUDE replied to camper26124's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Back in 2005 when I rode it, Colossus backwards was HORRIBLE. It was painfully rough during the fast parts, and during the slow parts it was boring. -
Mt. Olympus/Timber Falls Trip Report
FLIPDUDE replied to deathbydinn's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Waitwaitwait... Let me get this straight... You rode Cyclops twice, both times in the FRONT? That's like living in the world's tallest tower's ground floor! There is no comparing the airtime in the front and the airtime in the back, next time you go make sure to ride it in the back. That night int he park idea seems pretty cool, I wonder how many people actually do it? -
Photo TR: Indiana has more than corn?
FLIPDUDE replied to WildStangAlex's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Awesome TR! I personally like that those slides aren't part of the waterpark, because I wanted to ride them, but didn't really hav eneough time to hit the waterpark. It's nice to have access to a water ride that doesn't break your thumbs(*COUGHlogflumeCOUGH*) without having to go changing into a swimsuit. I miss IB, and really want to visit it someday. You're the first person I heard say that the park got better since it was bought. Or is Morgan a different company than the camping one that bought it from the original owners? -
The throw-you-in-the-water-thingy COASTER
FLIPDUDE replied to FLIPDUDE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ask and you shall recieve, Robb! After a very quick ressearch I discovered that it's in Aya Napa, which is a notorious party resort city in Cyprus (Holy cow! You mean this ride is just half an hour flight away from where I live?) I RCDB'd cyprus and it only has two parks listed, only one of which is in Ayia Napa, and despite the video being from 2004, I assume the google earth picture is a bit more recent, so the ride might still be there. Park's RCDB page(no pictures or website though): http://www.rcdb.com/6243.htm Google earth picture: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=34.985223,33.997219&spn=0.003192,0.002951&t=k&hl=en Now, I beleive that this ride is the one at the top left corner of the park, both becuase of the shadow it casts, and because of the difference in track width. (There are also only two coasters lsited in the park, and 3 coaster-looking things in the picture) So Robb! Can I hope that TPR will be organizing a Middle East trip? lol, just kidding. But if you guys ever do make your way to Cyprus I'll defiantely try to join. They may not have the best amusement parks but I understand there are some fantastic waterparks there. -
I stumbled across something interesting on Youtube... A "Full scale" version (I use that term lightly since it seems pretty short) of that weird shuttle from the eupropean TRs of that ride where you sit in a boat, get lifted backwards, then released and flung into a pool. Looks very strange and not all that safe, but nevertheless fun.

A website I like publishes lists of bizzare things from around the world daily, and recently it published a list of 10 bizzare theme parks form around the world. Some of them you probably heard of before like Bon Bon land, but there's still a couple of gems in there: http://www.oddee.com/item_96797.aspx Granted some of them are debatable as to are they a theme park or... something else, but the buddhist waterpark looks pretty interesting. I'm a little surprised that "The Holy Land Experience" and a local park called Kings' City(also based on the bible) didn't make it in. But I guess they're not as weird as a park chain where all the rides are diggers.

The adventure of Lil' Robby Robb
FLIPDUDE replied to FLIPDUDE's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sadly, the book isn't out yet. I was close to finishing it on time, but two days before the deadline I realized it wasn't going to be ready. (The deadline was Israel's comics festival, which is taking place as we speak). So I'm going to add some more content to it to really buff it up to a larger book(and also to balance it out, because right now more than half the book is about coaster stuff, and not everybody who's going to read it is from TPR) So it might come out later this year, or during the next comics festival. depends on when I finish it. So I'm sorry about the delay, folks! Also, I don't really have any experience with uploading comic books. I think that as a start I'd rather just send actual printed copies of it, unlesss it was a problem for someone. -Tomix -

^ I seriously doubt that. And what do middle east tentions have anything to do with it? If anything I'm the one who should be concerned about that. But seeing as you're not an Israeli, traveling to a country that has nothing to do with the middle eastern conflict shouldn't be of effect to you. -

Ha! Fantastic! the dance wasn't anything as extravagant as what we saw in that T mboile dance flash mob, but I LOVE the wya it started with everyone domino'ing diwn the line. I am actually a member of several flash mob groups. We've done some somewhat similar things bofore. Like an MP3 party where everyone dances in the street to their own music, or a freeze (A copy of the famous grand central freeze in new york) But yeah, the most famous flash mobs take place in America. Mostly in New York. Youtube Improv Everywhere to see some of thier owrks. It is a whole lot of fun, I can tell you! We recently organized the biggest water fight in the world, and it was an absolute blast.
