Are you seeing this?
kenshinmac replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Robb I JUST got it back. I've been getting TPR is down messages all morning. Was it a DNS change because I can't really understand why I would be that far off otherwise... -
Any impressions of how the PTC single bench cars looked? I noticed them in a pic... Looks cool but as others have said it is REALLY empty outside. I don't understand do they normally have so much stuff inside?

Robb Alvey's 30 Pounds in 30 Days - 2008!
kenshinmac replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
Ok I'm definitely going to keep up with this thread and use it to inspire me. My WiiFit hasn't gotten near the workout it should have. Besides I need to feel a bit better in a swimsuit by Schlitterbahn... We're rooting for you Robb! You can do it! -
Six Flags Profits Way Up
kenshinmac replied to ajinaz's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have to agree... There is no way they could unload parks at this point. I think the bad credit situation very likely will force them to declare bankruptcy but the real question is what happens then. Honestly this economic climate is ideal for Six Flags if it wasn't for their debt load. Instead of the big trips people did in past years they will be looking to stay close to home. So if they can get protection they may very well be able to turn things around but couldn't this hurt their ability to buy rides? -
Sorry but I cut parks a break... We had a very very poorly run day at Six Flags America and frankly I think the PR people that met with us knew it. I really wanted to love Six Flags America because they have an amazing collection of rides that should be good and the place looks pretty well kept. Sadly it just couldn't hold a candle to any expectation. We were practically ignored on a fair number of the rides. Several of the ops seemed to be having such a good time they hardly wanted to run the rides. The rides also just didn't run as nicely as similar rides we went on (although frankly I will say that Batwing was my favorite flyer of the trip). Ok, that's enough negativity... Sam the pictures are great again. That was a great day although I still think Griffon was seriously disappointing. Oh and please say that Frog was burned... I hate to think of how nasty that thing must have been. Haha! Remember the ride op at Mind Eraser who was trying to get a date with that chick who was also working at the ride? Man, those employees need to get their priorities straight. Yeah I wrote up a huge spiel on it and decided it was better not to post it. I also still remember the Blizzard River which had 5 people working it with 4 in the station chatting and not showing any indication that the ride was running until we left and one came out and asked if we wanted to ride. Then the guy at the top of the lift didn't even glance at us once... He was texting the whole time. Oh and remember the Superman ops that day were running one train and seemingly trying for the record for slowest dispatch ever (of course that was to be beaten soundly by Kings Dominion with Grizzly...) This is now just a really funny memory... At the time it was truly grating and really irked me.

Ok yeah I haven't watched the whole video yet but awesome you used Blue Man Group music! I'm a huge fan... You should definitely check out the traveling shows if you get a chance. The Megastar Album/DVD is awesome as well. I really want to go back to Desperado because it was a ton of fun... When I rode it though I swear it was less than $5. Bummer that X-Scream wasn't working but honestly after our group broke the ground based one at Rye would you have really wanted to ride it? I know the feeling of hopelessness that sets in around this time of year though... Parks closing and all that... Nice report though. (but your video dates seem off by 3 months just btw...)

Best coasters in Texas???
kenshinmac replied to thrillgeek's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Please say you are kidding... Lake Compounce's Wildcat was a kitten... It didn't hurt a bit when I rode it on the East Coast Trip (heck the boomerang hurt me a heck of a lot more). I will suggest you never ever go on any of the wooden coasters at Kings Dominion and frankly Morey's Piers' Great White was quite uncomfortable as well. I really hope you are kidding about the 5 visits... -
Does anyone know what the relative costs of a hybrid structure vs a full wooden structure at that sort of height are? I've been kinda curious about that for a while. Also I agree with the other posts that this could be a real disaster if it isn't kept up properly. Hopefully it will go well because I would love to see more wooden coasters around the world.

Brazilian SLC Construction
kenshinmac replied to LuccasCBMR's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Unfortunately, it looks like you're not getting the new vest-style restraints. But that isn't like any SLC train I have ever seen before... The restraint is a slightly different shape and all the SLC I have been on except NorEaster had the handlebar style grips. I'm really confused by that pic... -
PTC Announces Single bench cars!!!
kenshinmac replied to Vekoma Fan Boy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I really want to see these on a ride... I want to know how they will run because I think it could make a huge difference on the more twisted coasters. -
That was an amazing day! It was so much fun in general. I didn't go on a single ride that wasn't insanely fun that day. Plus their hot waffle ice cream sandwich was soooo good. I'm still suffering from good Twister withdrawals too . So much fun... So many good memories... Thanks everyone it was a ton of fun spending time with you all.

PTC Announces Single bench cars!!!
kenshinmac replied to Vekoma Fan Boy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You are right... I hadn't taken in that the final one had the same open front as the front one. I just wonder what sort of restrictions the trailered cars will have. I wonder if it will not run on coasters that generate higher G forces. -

kenshinmac replied to Vekoma Fan Boy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well I guess that picture kills all the previous posts in the thread... It clearly shows a trailer car in the set. I wonder if they can run a full train with only one 4 wheeler. That said as has been pointed out it would probably hurt like anything because the seats look like the normal butt punishing PTC seats. I think what makes the Flyers so comfortable is the amount of padding in them that helps to absorb the bumps. That said I would still like to try it... It would probably look fantastic at Elitch Gardens -
Anyway I'll follow up Sam's post as I am Matt... It was an amazingly warm day which unfortunately resulted in half of Denver being at the park. Still early in the day it was pretty reasonable. Anyway you don't care what I am saying here do you... Who am I kidding 99% of you won't even read this line. I apologize for some of the duplicate themes with Sam's pics... I have included a few pics from previous trips due to not taking too many pics this last trip. Oh and if you think my captions are crap feel free to make suggestions. I'll happily take any constructive feedback. I honestly have never seen this ride set up in the new park... Still based on the wreckage maybe that is for the best. Random new Chaos sexiness... These rides are so under appreciated. Apparently that is the answer. No idea who thought this was a good idea. The ride op actually reassured us that the lift hill was not on fire... Saw this warning in line for Twister 2 a few weeks ago. First thought that came to mind for me was where on earth do you use a fog machine on a coaster. Apparently I was the only one totally excited to get on the Tower of Doom. Due to the wind they were running 4 people max at a time. You can see that really went to town with dyeing the water. It looks like someone had a mild nosebleed in it. I'll just end with a pic from the tower of the park as the lights were coming on. I do love this park under the new management it isn't too large but there is a fair amount of fun to be had. It is going to be a long off season. Yep it is a new used Hearst... With the temporary registration still in the window. After our ride on Thunderbolt on the way out we noticed a little something odd with the park's promo Hearst. After that trying to find a reasonable ride to finish the night we wandered across the beauty that is Twister 2 at night. I loved this angle... If that gap isn't there it isn't Genuine Vekoma... It isn't called Mind Eraser for nothing! Later in the evening waiting for Brutal Planet we consulted the cheat sheet that the management saw fit to put on one of the walls by the queue.

Photo TR: Bas does Florida and the East Coast Tour
kenshinmac replied to hyyyper's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I love underbanked woodies! That's one of the things that made Boulder Dash great for me, and all the proper banking is what made rides like El Toro, Roar, Wildcat and to a lesser extent Lightning Racers not as much fun as they could've been if they had some lateral forces. I dunno, maybe it's just me...but I blame growing up so close to Thunderbolt at KW, where you get Wipeout/ Trabant/ Musik Express levels of lats going past the Potato Patch. I totally agree but Great White was not running around those smoothly at all. It was not comfortable for me in the least... Heck my favorite part of the ride was down the stretch along the beach. If it was just an out and back it would have been better IMHO. I thought that Boulder Dash was amazing because it gave the sideways forces but was super smooth the whole way. -
Nice! Hanno you got my one ride on Hellcat... And I was in one of the two seats that wasn't attacked by motion blur I was really disappointed that we didn't get ERT on that honestly. I kinda did the rest of my rides and food that night based on the assumption we were going to be on it later. Hanno seriously can I just say a HUGE thanks for all the pics. It is so much fun reliving the trip. Besides that I have no idea how you got in any rides with the amount of pictures you took. This thread has been so much fun.

Drop Tower Question
kenshinmac replied to Angry_Gumball's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Not trying to threadjack or anything but I was just wondering if anyone knows what sort of wind speed they need to shut down sides of the Intamin Drop Towers. I mean this happens a TON at Elitch Gardens in Denver so I was just curious. -
I rode the Xcelerator!
kenshinmac replied to Rocket Rodder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Congrats. I really need to get back to Southern California... I haven't been for years. Xcelerator also looks like a blast. Still that made for a pretty boring post. You need to give us some background to make it interesting. How many times did you skip it? What was it that worried you? How did you feel waiting? Heck tell us how your friends convinced you to go on. Something...
