Beech Bend Discussion Thread

Still have never seen anyone get Sick on or From Lagoon's Air Race. Besides, it's more about feeling the G Forces and the Hang Time at the Top. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
linearinduction replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would be curious to know if TTD, Wicked Twister and other launch coasters have generator back-up. I would assume that they would want this as an extra safety precaution in addition to limit/proximity switches and sensors in the event of a power outage during a launch. Does anyone know for sure? To be honest, I have never really looked for these during my rides, but they could very well be there - hidden within buildings. I would think that there might be a local tie between Cummins and Holiday World given their close proximity to each other - seems to make sense that they would work together to have the gen-sets there - just in case they might ever need them. I can speak for Wicked at Lagoon. In the most basic of terms, the LSM Stators switch to Brakes in a Power Failure Event. Anytime Loss of Power Occurs, All Brakes Close, Stopping all Motion. Lagoon has Several Cummins Power Generation Gen Sets Installed in various locations around the park that can Power Approximately 1/4 of All Rides on the Park, which include Wicked, Roller Coaster, Wild Mouse, Fire Dragon, Bat, BomBora, Air Race, Jet Star 2, Sky Scraper, Spider, Jumping Dragon, OdySea, Samurai, Rattlesnake Rapids, Several Rides in Kiddieland, and Cannibal once it opens. Lagoon actually has a Con-Gen that was Built in the Early 90's that was Capable of Producing 3 Gigawatts of Electricity. Unfortunately the Co-Gen has not been used in over 16 Years and is Completely Inoperable. -

So have the Parking Lots always been where they are, even when the Entrance was in Americana? I'll never understand why they moved the Entrance. -

BomBora at Lagoon! Incredibly Smooth, Comfortable Trains and Restraints for Kids and Adults, Nice G Forces, On Board Audio, and On Board Lighting. -

I'm picturing two Drive Tire Lifts, but a Launch would be Cool Too! -

The InTraSys GmbH Beilim Stators are 220 Millimeters Tall, and the Axles on the Force Coaster Trains won't allow clearance for those like the Elevated Sitting Coaster Trains do. -

I don't believe there is enough clearance with the Beilim Stators for an LSM Launch/Launches, unless they use the ESC Trains, which it doesn't appear they will use. Who knows though. -
Don't forget about Zierer coasters. Knoebel's new Impulse and Lagoon's Wicked would be solid additions as well. Having a vertical lift and drop would be major selling points for the ride. That's a Great Idea! Darien Lake has a Family Launched Coaster, so a Zierer Tower Launch Coaster like Wicked, but with a Cobra Roll in place of the Immelmann Turn, and something more exciting after the Safety Brake would work well. Heck, throw in a Vertical Loop between the Launch Tower and Cobra Roll/Immelmann Turn and that would give it 4 Inversions. A Spinning Coaster would also work well.

Looks like they already have an Alpine Slide and Alpine Coaster. Not sure how this is Zierer's First Family Coaster Design Either. -

I thought it was your Standard Semi-Transportable Base Frame Park Model, not one with the Station Mounted on a Trailer. -

Ugh, do we really need a slingshot? I mean the rip cord does just fine. I feel like a slingshot at VF would turn out to be a total flop like Skyscraper if anyone remembers that. Lagoon has had their Funtime Sling Shot for 13 Years and Still gets a Line at $20 a Launch. -
I've seen Roller Coaster at Lagoon go up to 10 Seconds Faster on a Cycle in a Downpour and Fire Dragon and Wild Mouse go down when they are running 5 Seconds Faster in the Rain. Can you explain to me how wet track can cause a Roll Back when Trains Travel Faster on Wet Track? I don't know the physics behind it, but that's what happens apparently. I heard from a friend who is a team lead that whatever part / system they were working on failed and now they have to basically redo everything they just did. There was also mention of potential overheating of the launch system. Water lubricates the Track and Causes less Friction resulting in Trains Traveling Faster. Many Coasters will shut down when traveling too fast in the rain.

Lagoon's 250ft Funtime Slingshot that Opened in 2002 is still $20 Per Launch and $10 for a Re-launch, so $25 doesn't sound expensive at all to me. -

Uremet seemed to be the Company most Parks got new Wheels for their B&Ms from, but Sunray and Maclan do a lot of business as well. -

Just curious, what's the name of the website where I can find these trademark filings? (Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question.) The United States Patent and Trademark Office Website and the Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS) Located Here: http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=4801:huhyz4.1.1 -

The "Rattle" happens due to Worn Wheels that have Nicks, Cuts, Flat Spots, etc., and or the Wear of the Rubber Shock Absorbers in the Bogies. All Coasters get Worn Wheels; this is nothing new. -

Today, Lagoon opened the First BeaverTails Pastry Location in the Country! BeaverTails are described as Hand Stretched Whole-Wheat Pastry Float Cooked and Served Hot with Butter and a Number of Topings, such as Hazelnut Chocolate Spread and Bananas, Reeses Pieces, Cinnamon Sugar, and Many More! One might think this sounds like a Traditional Elephant Ear, but we were assured BeaverTail Pastry is nothing like an Elephant Ear....it's much Superior! Cedar Point will also be opening a BeaverTails Pastry as well. http://www.beavertailsinc.com/ Cannibal News: Cannibal has surpassed 1,000 Test Cycles and Lagoon has placed Trains #5 and #6 on the Track. -

Perhaps there is a semi organized group of people that could start sending these "tips" in day, after day, after day? Maybe then the local media will Ignore them.
