  1. While I don't care about the single rider policy, I care about this. I don't fault the park, they haven't been misleading about it, and I know they have their reasons. It still sucks. It does suck for Single Riders, but knowing the who, why, and what sure makes a difference. It's so strange to go to other parks and see Single Riders in the Front and Back Rows and that is a Constant Reminder to me to watch out for my safety.
  2. It should be noted that the events linearinduction mentions both took place 26 years ago. At that time, the person I assume he's talking about was working for Arrow Dynamics. Well, I guess the next time you guys are a Manager of an Amusement Park and are first on the scene to see the body of a dead little boy who took a 2" wide Brake Fin to the Back of the Head, where it exploded, and the Mangled body of a 15 Year Old Girl, who were riding alone in the back row, you guys can tell me what you would do instead, but I doubt that's going to happen. You would also be surprised just how accurate Witnesses CAN be, as they have been very helpful in other smaller incidents. It's also EXTREMELY Simple, the Two Persons who ride in the Front Row can see the Track, and the Two Persons who ride in the Back Row can see the Entire Train. Also, keep in mind, Lagoon has THE Top Industry Safety Expert on Payroll. Those people were both single riders who fell from the back seat. I can see the logic in requiring 2 riders in the back seat based on those events and calling it a safety precaution. As I just said, the policy of requiring two in the front seat only seeks to provide witnesses in the very unfortunate event that it happens again. If THE top safety expert in the country doesn't understand the difference between actual safety precautions and issues of litigation, then I am very concerned. From my view, there was no big deal made here until the topic of children's heads exploding was raised. People who aren't familiar with the park were asking for clarification, and I was providing it. I don't care about the policy itself at all. I just think that calling something a safety precaution that doesn't aim to actually make anybody safer in any way builds distrust, as lies often do. I wasn't referring to Dal Freeman, a Ride Designer and Engineer, but R.C. Fussner, of R.C. Fussner and Associates. After the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Accident at Disneyland in 2003, both RC and Dal were on a Plane within hours, both at the Request of Disney. The Single Rider Policy is totally about Witnesses. I apologize if I wasn't clear in that area. Both Riders, who Tragically Died, were riding alone in the Back Seat and Both Incidents happened within Weeks of Each Other. Still to this day, it is unknown if the 15 year old girl on Roller Coaster Stood Up Intentionally and Fell Out, Stood Up Intentionally to Fall Out (Suicide), Somehow Fell Out, or the Safety Bar Failed. The Safety Bar was Locked in Place when the Train Came Back to the Station, but if there was a Rider Next to Her, they may have had an Idea as to if she appeared to Stand Up, Fell Out, or the Safety Bar Failed and Opened. Thanks to Guests in Line for Puff (Eye Witnesses), it is known the Little Boy who was Riding alone in the Back Seat wiggled out of the Lapbar and Seatbelt. Would a Responsible Person Riding next to the Little Boy have stopped him from wiggling out? Probably. Puff's Lapbars were Modified after the Incident and Roller Coaster received a Seat Divider and Individual Spring Loaded Ratcheting Lapbars.
  3. Firstly, that seems extremely insensitive to pass off someone's life like it was meaningless with a wink. It's probably hard for you to understand when you have not heard the story first hand from the person who was first on scene and how 14 years later, it still felt like it happened yesterday for them. These incidents were Traumatic for Every Person in Operations and for the Owners of the Park. That year it became Lagoon's Goal for something like those incidents to NEVER happened again, within their power, and thus these SOPs were Implemented. While you may not understand the reasoning, because you've never worked with these people, it does not make their Policies "Stupid." You have no idea of the horrific trauma these employees, owners, guests, and families went through after these incidents. I also don't believe RC Fussner was on the Payroll in 1989, when these incidents happened. Lagoon's Surveillance System is Extremely Impressive and Extensive, and is the Only Park where I've ever heard of Control Booths and Platforms wired with Microphones and Fiberoptic Cameras. This is an Older (2003) Article that will demonstrate just how Serious Lagoon is about Safety and what they did just with Surveillance after these Incidents. There aren't many parks that have Fiberoptic Cameras on Rides like the Rocket that can see 20 Miles Crystal Clear in All Directions. http://www.securitymagazine.com/articles/76361-safe-ride-1
  4. Well, it is possible but hasn't been done before. Maybe it would use way too much power? Wicked pulls 900kw from the Flywheel Inverter in 2 Phases.....how much power does the Intamin LSM Launch Coasters pull?
  5. + Yes, you are, but they wouldn't want to spell it out for you. It's in case the train hits a person who is not on the ride but near the track. To call a policy that aims to insure that at least two people have a front-row seat to any such event a "safety precaution" is ridiculous IMO. Nobody is safer for having witnessed that. + Oh right, of course, thank you for explaining. It does seem like a rule born out of paranoia, plus witness statements are notoriously unreliable. Hopefully it doesn't cause too many people problems anyway + Well, I guess the next time you guys are a Manager of an Amusement Park and are first on the scene to see the body of a dead little boy who took a 2" wide Brake Fin to the Back of the Head, where it exploded, and the Mangled body of a 15 Year Old Girl, who were riding alone in the back row, you guys can tell me what you would do instead, but I doubt that's going to happen. 6. Worn Wheels is the answer you are looking for. Considering the about equal amount of grinding on Impulse's Track Joints as Wicked's, I'm not surprised it's Chewing up Wheels, then again, maybe they are still adjusting hardness and combinations thereof.
  7. I know I will be at Lagoon on Friday Afternoon, June 5th, and Possibly Saturday Afternoon, June 6th, as well, and I would be more than happy to meet up with you and ride some rides. I will also put out the word on LagoonisFun.com to see if anyone might be able to meet up with you earlier in the day, and I will see if I might be able to score some Discount Passes for you as well, but if not, Costco is the Best Discount.
  8. The only issues I've ever heard about the Air Race 6.4 at Lagoon was the Inconvenient Location of the Resets for the Planes, otherwise it Operates Great!
  9. Looks Awesome! Pretty Cool they aren't using the Trims in the Safety Brake either!
  10. The Booster Seats on Wicked and Impulse are a pretty cool feature and allows Lagoon to get the Minimum Height Requirement down to 46", which is great for my Nieces and Nephews.
  11. I would not count on Cannibal being Open when you visit. Also, in case you were unaware, Lagoon offers several discounts, like the Early Bird Special, which saves $7.00 (Up to 6 People) with a Coke Can before 12:00pm and Costco sells Tickets for $39.99, which saves $9.96. Make sure you ride the Coasters at Night/After Dark too, as Wicked, Dragon, Jet Star 2, and Roller Coaster are best then.

  13. I wonder if there is some kind of exclusivity contract between SF and RMC for a few years which is why all the American steel RMCs have been at Six Flags so far. Wasn't Colossus quite linear too? I rode it a few years ago but RMC doesn't necessarily need a twister layout to be able to make the turns and drops more exciting or even put in inversions (I'm not saying they'll get an RMC BTW, I just thought I'd comment on this) Check earlier in the thread, evidence from RMC that there isn't any exclusivity clause Except it was Stated at the Twisted Colossus Opening that the I Box Track is Exclusive to Six Flags.
  14. Lagoon's 250' Slingshot was $2 Million back in 2002, and I believe the ones Cedar Fair are installing are the 300' or 350' Versions, which would cost more than $2 Million.
  15. Your friend? What does he do that he can hear someone that high up the food chain just saying willy nilly anything about 2016? Most of the time don't parks use code names for new major attractions. The only fact he heard while they were planning is that it would be the third tallest in the park? No Location? Name? Nothing New? You would be surprised at just what the Suits and Silver Tags talk about in front of Seasonal Employees about future additions, and most of them I heard while working there were built.
  16. Are you consulting Wikipedia for info about Lagoon? I'd suggest using the Lagoon is Fun Wiki instead. Lagoon actually opened in 1896. Lake Park opened in 1886. Since Lake Park was Relocated and Renamed Lagoon in 1896, I still count the Park as Opening in 1886. So Lagoon Opened as Lake Park in 1886, and was Relocated and Renamed in 1896.
  17. It seems to be so they can make sure it clears the element. Plus the tight turn into the brake run could be a bit more fun as well. It's most likely a Trim Brake, as there are LSM Beilim Stators in the Safety Brake as well. It made sense the LSM Stators after the Diving Loop were for a Possible Launch, but once the Safety Brake went up with LSM Stators, the Use seemed Clear. I get the missile silo thing a bit (Some people might think it looks like one ,2015 seems to be the "murder your skyline year"), but 500 feet? And the fact that it "shoots you up the missle silo"? That would be a 'little' intense. Pretty Funny considering Lagoon opened in 1886! lol
  18. Assuming that this is Ecolab, they were pretty useless when it came to the pools at Kings Island. We had to override a lot of their settings to keep everything balanced when I worked there. I wonder why they would have an outside company deal with the pools, when they own and operate there own waterpark and water rides right next door with there own staff that deals with the chemicals. You've obviously never known any Cedar Point Lifeguards well! I wouldn't let ANY person of ANY age in any pool at Cedar Point. lol
  19. Possibly. I love Cedar Fair and I'm pretty 2016 is going to be a BIG year for the company. Let's hope it's something MASSIVE and full of THRILLS! Based on the Previous Ouimet Years (2013, 2014, 2015) He seems to just want to go "Big" at one park (Gatekeeper, Banshee, Fury 3 2 5) and if the Rumors of a Dive at CP are true, Then that's the "Cookie" that year. Actually, from what I understand, its the parks themselves who decides what they want. Rob Decker is over design and something for the entire chain. Each park is given a budget based on their performance the prev year, i think. Its up to that park to use all said budget or not. If they don't it seems they still have that money to use. So yeah...if a park hasn't gotten that big coaster you feel deserve...blame it on that particular park lol. I know this is what it used to be like when I worked for them. Each park was operated as an Individual Business Unit, which means the Suits kick in for somethings, but not everything, and there must be an ROI in a reasonable amount of time. It appears to me this may be the case today.
  20. Control. Building Cannibal Turnkey, basically acting as the Manufacturer, gave Lagoon Complete Control of the Project from Start to Finish. Besides, when you have one of the top coaster designers in history on your payroll, might as well pay him to do what he's done most of his career.
  21. There isn't a good seat. Worst coaster at the park. Better to look at than to ride. A Dive Coaster in the exact location would be bad A$$! Vortex is a great coaster. You guys are babies. AMEN! I loved Vortex in every seat I rode in, including the back, and found it awesome.
  22. Since these were the first test runs, I'm sure the Trims were off. I've never been truly impressed with any Gerstlauer Coaster, but this one I am. The elements and pacing are great and it looks darn fun!
  23. According to the American Public Works Association, the Colors Indicate the Following:Red: Electric Power Lines, Cables, Conduit, and Lighting Cables Orange: Telecommunication, Alarm or Signal Lines, Cables, or Conduit Yellow: Natural Gas, Oil, Steam, Petroleum, or Other Gaseous or Flammable Material Green: Sewer and Drain Lines Blue: Potable Water Purple: Reclaimed Water, Irrigation, and Slurry Lines Pink: Temporary Survey Markings, Unknown/Unidentified Facilities White: Proposed Excavation Limits or Route So in the First Image Power Lines/Cables, Telecommunication, and Sewer/Drain Lines are Marked and in the Second Image Sewer/Drainage, Power Lines/Cables, and Potable Water are Marked.
  24. So, in short, it's the Base Frame Model.
