I might actually be able to go if I can find someone who will let me sleep a night in their house, and get a ride from and back to the airport... You see, I have no money (because I'm paying out the nose for Julia's pretty ring) and since I'd have to pay for the park, I couldn't afford a hotel, too. If anyone would be willing, though, I'd fork out a buddy pass for them (1 round trip yield-fare ticket on Delta Airlines on any domestic flights, prices range from $30-$280, and it's based primarily on mileage.) Let me know if anyone's interested, if not, then I hope everyone there has fun. -James Dillaman

The Smurfs at PKI!! La, la, la la la la, la la la la la...! You don't top that on a hot day, you cool off without being wet. -James "RIP Smurfs" Dillaman -

PKI just has some of the worst operations I've ever experienced at any paramount park. Employees gettting into fights (happened a couple times last year), food service people not washing their hands and even picking up dropped food off the floor to give to people (seen that one myself), also ride breakdowns with all their new rides are paramount, shall we say. The last time I went (Pre SOB accident) the following rides were down: Face/Off, Delirium, SOB, SlingShot, and the show portion of IJ wasn't working at all, no helicopter or anything, just a quick stop before moving on. Add to that the employees working there wouldn't let us wait 1 train to ride in front, even though there was only like a 10 minute wait tops. And on Beast we waited 35 minutes for the front seat because they put 4 different groups of handicapped people on, all in the front seat, while our line didn't move. I used to love PKI, it's my home park and I worked there happily. In the past couple years it has taken a downturn in management and operations, though. That's why many people who visit this park list it so far down on their list. -James Dillaman

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
jamesdillaman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Come on, everyone knows that Cedar Point doesn't have ROOM! How can they possibly break the length record when they can't even build a major coaster, let alone the world's longest... [/sarcasm] -James Dillaman -
Oh well, guess I'm the only person at TPR who loves Splashin Safari waterpark. 2 wave pools, 2 tube rivers, Zinga was a highlight for me at SRM 2003, the crazy tube slides where when you ride with two big guys in one tube you take your life in your hands. It was awesome. The only time I've ever been able to stay at a waterpark and have fun at one that wasn't a stand-alone waterpark. As for people over-hyping HW, sure it does happen, but I've always experienced good guest service up until last year at the park. I believe Will Koch needs to look at the past and keep the park the way it was before Voyage opened. I think the days of the old Holiday World are numbered, as it's just getting too big to really deliver that one on one interaction and friendliness it became known for. Bigger crowds and a need for many more employees mean they can't pick and choose who works for them the way they used to. They can't let go people who don't smile or aren't enthusiastic, because they need so many more people to run their rides, Make the food, man the shops, etc. I still love the rides, and the waterpark is still the best "Amusement park" waterpark I've ever been to, but I think it's getting too big for it's area. The closest major metropolitan area is pretyy far away, and Evansville and Louisville aren't THAT large. Besides that Louisville already has SFKK. Time will tell with HW, but I wish them the best. -James Dillaman

Opening Year for Son of Beast at PKI. Between the breakdowns and the one train operation, we (My little brother and I) were waiting in line almost 9 hours. PKI did supply us with free drinks when we got off the ride, though they should have given out aspirin... -James "Who also baked in X-Flights line opening year, that sucked!" Dillaman

Trying To Locate A Huss Rainbow Ride
jamesdillaman replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Michigan's Adventure and Indiana Beach both have one. -James Dillaman -
\ The name Carowinds was formed from the Winds that flow across the Carolinas, as the park straddles both North and South Carolina. I think its a rather inventive name as it doesn't have the words "King", "Great", "World", "Land", "America", "Adventure", "Island", or "Fun" which of at least one you will find in probably about 50% of all amusement names in America. -J (The more you know...) Incidentally, King's Island was the name given to the new park to replace Cincinnati's Coney ISLAND. The new park is located in KING'S mills. and combining the two, you get King's Island.

^ Cedar Point's doesn't have drops, though. I like the 3 at the Beach Waterpark near Cinccinnati. Not the best I've been on, but I think the only "River Rapids" tube rides I've been on, really. -James Dillaman -

^ I love the updates, keep them coming. You saved this thread for me. Thanks point extreme, these are excellent, and the captions added are so perfect. For someone going through coaster withdrawl (no more themeparks this year, except going to the beach waterpark), this makes it a little easier to cope. -James Dillaman -

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
jamesdillaman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^ Cedar Point I think doesn't want the ride to open late. It's bad for the new coaster to not be running when the park opens for the season (see six flags) Plus, I'm hoping they'll be some theming with this ride, so that takes a little extra time, and if you don't plan for it, the ride won't open with the park (See PKD's IJ: Turbo Coaster) I for one like it also for the fact that people in the park can see the construction, further hyping the new ride for next year. -James Dillaman -
^ The bunny hills at the end are amazing. I think PR's an awesome ride. -James Dillaman

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
jamesdillaman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think everyone will be surprised when the plans are announced publicly. Everyone except a select few of course. I'm not all that concerned about the ride itself, as anyone who knows cedar point shouldn't have any doubt. I also believe it is something that will add to the park, perhaps even bring some much needed theming to cedar point. Whatever it is, we'll all flock to it to ride it, so it doesn't matter. Patience is a virtue and it makes this thread annoying to read with everyone saying the same things over and over. I thought this thread was created to discus and post real updates on CP's new ride, but it has degenerated into people saying things like "I'm SURE that the new mega-looper will break the inversion record" and blah blah blah. I have seen no evidence of this being a mega-looper or anything besides maybe an aquatrax. This doesn't mean it won't be a mega-looper, but I don't see where you can make that claim based on the evidence. I feel if you are going to make a claim, at least back it up and share with us your thoughts about it, so everyone else doesn't make fun of you. Rant over Sorry, but I keep checking this thread for pics/real information, and it's annoying to wade through "Cedar Point has no more room". C'mon, if you want to discuss that, start a new thread entitled "Does Cedar Point have any more room?" -James Dillaman -
Cedar Point or Islands of Adventure?
jamesdillaman replied to redfoot12's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Both of those themeparks will be better for you than SFMM. You never know with six flags, but IOA is usually a safe bet, and Cedar Point is usually pretty good about not having too many rides closed. They will also not be presenting you with 1-train operations, which you might get with Six Flags. -James Dillaman -
Alton Towers Discussion Thread
jamesdillaman replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I agree, I just thought disney would be different from Alton Towers, although I've never been there, which is why I asked what it was like. It isn't clear to me that the group PAID to rent out the park, though. The article doesn't say. My question was couldn't the couple arrange to ride the rides Friday and have the wedding Saturday, instead of the wedding Saturday and then riding Sunday? You'd think they could work it out. I think Alton Towers should offer to change their days of stay if they can, as 10,000 is a lot to spend at a park by anyone, and it's in their best interest to try and help them out. I was more or less just saying don't blame the Islamic group for this, as they have a right to believe what they want and I can understand they would feel uncomfortable at the theme park on a normal operating day. -James Dillaman -

Alton Towers Discussion Thread
jamesdillaman replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
True, it did say they booked the hotel, not the park, but would anyone have their wedding at Breakers @ CP and then not have the guests of the wedding go into the park? I would think this would be the same way, although I haven't been to Alton Towers, so would love someone to shed some light on the hotel/themepark connection. -James Dillaman -
Alton Towers Discussion Thread
jamesdillaman replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They have the right to do what they want if they prearranged it with the park. They may have even paid to buy out the park for the day. The sad thing is Alton Towers double-booked them, and unfortunately the nature of the two parties involved makes them extremely difficult to coincide. Hopefully they can resolve the situation somehow, maybe getting one group to postpone by 1 day or something along those lines. It would be sad if this couples' wedding was ruined. I especially feel bad for them because I just got engaged. I for one will not be choosing an amusement park for our wedding. -James Dillaman ^ Also, you can't force muslims to ride rides with people who aren't covered up when they don't believe in it. Badmouthing anyone's religion isn't ever a good idea IMO. They have a right to believe what they do, just as you do. This isn't the Islamic groups fault, it's Alton Towers. -
Afterburner stuck upside down?

It's only because of the contact contamination from bordering Kentucky, they can't help it. But seriously, a tru fact: Indiana is home to the most active KKK members. So I think I can be politically incorrect to the most politically incorrect population perhaps in the country. -James Dillaman
