I wouldn't count Dare Devil Falls at DW, and that's mentioned on page 1, isn't that more a shoot-the-chutes? -

Howler (btw, I don't know that coaster ^) James Dillaman Oh yeah, and Raven is next, since it's only been said like half of the time an "r" came up. -
Afterburner stuck upside down?

^ They're in Indiana anyway, that causes brain damage, so being stuck upside-down doesn't matter. -

Cedar Point or Islands of Adventure?
jamesdillaman replied to redfoot12's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Definitely Holiday World... Wait, Santa Claus doesn't have an airport? Then where does Santa land his sleigh? Fine, go to Dollywood... What was the question again? Oh yeah, I guess given those choices go to IOA, and be prepared to wait in line no matter which of the 2 you choose. -James Dillaman -

The "Flyers" Thread
jamesdillaman replied to dragoncoaster1292's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I ran the ride for a 10-minute cycle for a bunch of acers that had all 10 tubs on the ride snapping like mad, and they never hit the ground... I seriously doubt that any well maintained ride would be in any danger of hitting the ground. That was a common saying though. I heard many times (being the ride op) some unknowing bystander when someone snapped one say: "OMG, Stop the ride, they're hitting the ground!!" LOL, to which I'd calmly explain they're not and that's normal operation of the ride, as my supervisor taught me... -James "Glad he has a real job now, no offense..." Dillaman -

Um.... Yeah^ That's why nobody else posted techniques of how to do it. Read the entire quote. It moved on to include questions of safety and pictures of flyers and park rules. Different than telling people how to do it. I do agree, though. I would hate to see this go away.... I love me some flyer snaps... -James Dillaman -

jamesdillaman replied to dragoncoaster1292's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They didn't kick me out, just nicely told me not to make them snap. The ride op stopped the ride before I could get any big snaps in anyway, which I expect they do for anyone who tries. Just do your thing, and if you can, you can. If they tell you to stop, or there's a sign explicitly telling you not to, then obey the park rules of course. -

not so good because they are small and lightweight, but they are much like the Indiana Beach flyers, they can be snapped, but the park doesn't condone it. -James Dillaman -
The "Flyers" Thread
jamesdillaman replied to dragoncoaster1292's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Most flyers are anchored by more than one cable (usually 4 with safety loops of steel cable around each pair), so even if one did break, the tub would only sit a little lower. "Snapping" the cables actually only refers to them getting slack and then taunt, quickly launching the tub high in the air, and making a loud "snapping" sound. When I ran the ride at PKI (now gone to Carowinds ) we were told that it's normal operation for the ride and really no danger if the ride is inspected daily. The main problem is parents viewing people doing it on what they mistakingly refer to as a "kiddie ride" and getting upset when their kid comes off crying. That's the reason many parks post signs as to "no snapping of cables allowed." It's not as much that it isn't safe as it appears unsafe. -James Dillaman btw, just saw your post of MY flyers.... You uncaring bastard.... -

Seriously, isn't there a chance (since it already runs steel coaster train stock, basically) that they can keep the wood structure mostly, just change to steel track. Making a 200+ foot steel coaster, hopefully running smoother, and finally giving KI it's "hyper". Think I stumbled on the ultimate solution...? -James Dillaman -

jamesdillaman replied to Corkscrewed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
"stacking trains on the test cycles!" just FYI, while performing block checks on a multi-train coaster, you have to stack the trains to test the computer systems on the ride. Basically you're trying to send another train into a block already occupied by a stopped train. It shouldn't allow the train to move, and if it does, that's bad. Just thought I'd let you know. -James Dillaman -

^Yeah, that ride was way better before the retheme. I also liked the old kings mill log flume, where tomb raider is now, which was significantly taller, but not as wet, if i remember correctly. -James Dillaman -

Well, having been to SFFT, what did you think (besides the bad operation) of Superman: Krypton Coaster? I love this ride, it's a big contender for my favorite floorless coaster, and I wish more people would get down to SFFT and ride it. -James Dillaman -

jamesdillaman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I for one would love for it to be replaced, but I'm highly doubtful it will be. The cost to tear it down would be astronomical. The other option is to take the six flags way and just leave it SBNO, and I don't think cedar fair would take that option, either. Whatever they choose they're going to have some tough choices for SOB, that's for sure. -James Dillaman
