I thought B&M made all of their crossties equally spaced out, but I noticed at the very right side of this pic (http://www.rcdb.com/ig1417.htm?picture=2) of G5 that they are closer together in one small spot. I don't think this is because of higher g forces, because the g's don't look like they would be considerably higher at that spot. Are the ties closer together because of the one in the middle being a connector between two track segments? You can also see in this pic that the ties are closer together in 3 places near the end of the ride where segments are connected, but not anywhere else. http://www.rcdb.com/ig1417.htm?picture=3

Early B&M's really are intense. Batman: The Ride was probably the most intense ride I have ever ridden. I blacked out 3 to 4 times while riding it. Most of the ride has very strong positive g's. I would probably enjoy Hydra, since I hate when I have to worry about going unconcious through every loop. I'm more of a fan of intense negative g's and floater air than blackout-inducing positive g's.

1. Ninja- SFOG 2. The Racer- PKI 3. Thunder Run- SFKK Actually, the last 2 must have not been that bad, because I still loved riding them!

I'm 6'0", so Ninja hurt my neck more than anything else. I found that the best way to sit is to push up on the restraints with your shoulders and press your head back into the headrest. The first time I rode Ninja I was in the front seat, and I put the hood of my sweatshirt over my head for extra padding 8) .That time it didn't hurt my neck that much. The second time, I was in the front row of the second car. The train was stopped on the top of the lift hill for about 20 minutes before we finally started moving again. That ride was much worse. I greyed out going into the second inversion of the butterfly, my neck got bruised by the restraints when the train was coming out of the 3rd inversion, and, like I already said, my glasses case was broken. Despite all of this, I am still willing to give Ninja another chance . If my 3rd ride is as bad as the 2nd was, that ride will be going on my revenge list

This will be my 3rd time ever going to SFOG, and the first time was last April! I have just gotten lucky, and have kept getting opportunities to go there. I will have a photo TR if I bring my camera. I'm just worried that Ninja will kill it, like it did to my glasses case. The last time I was there, the sturdy case for my glasses had been smashed after riding Ninja. Luckily, my glasses were unharmed. I'm going to ride Ninja again in the back seat, to see if it really makes a difference. I don't want it to be in my bottom 10 list, because it has such a cool layout. If I can sit in a good seat, I can actually enjoy it. I'm also really hoping to ride Deja Vu this time. I can't believe I missed my chance last time, when it was open the whole day!

"How not to ride" sounds fun . I think there should be a topic with a poll for what everyone wants for the next theme. -
Backyard Rides
nannerdw replied to Angry_Gumball's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorry, I'm not going to upload my Nolimits file, because I have a lot of bugs to work out first, like the lift system and g-forces. How does Blue Flash make it through that loop screw? The transition at the bottom looks so deadly! I wonder what the g-forces are like. -
Backyard Rides
nannerdw replied to Angry_Gumball's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I made a Nolimits Version of my backyard coaster a while ago. I just turned the AutoCAD model into a 3ds object and put it into Nolimits. Then I made the track follow the path of the 3ds version. Here are some specs from AutoCAD: height above ground = 19.5 ft. 5.9 m radius of all curves (taken from top of rail) = 6.5 ft. 2.0 m height of vertical freefall section = 10 ft. 3.0 m width (when track is viewed as a W shape ) = 48.5 ft. 14.8 m depth = 6 ft. 1.8 From Nolimits, I got these specs, which are probably very inaccurate: max. speed = 20 mph 32 km/h max pos. g = +3.1 g max. neg. g = -1.9 g The airtime hill with a 45 degree leadin angle is probably too intense. -

Project: Wildcat sounds amazing! I do not have the money or the woodworking tools to make a backyard coaster. So, what's the projected cost for the finished coaster, $2,000,000? Have you made a model or Nolimits version of it yet to see if it will work? And don't you have to get a building permit for something like this? -
Backyard Rides

This is the coaster that is in my backyard! Not really, I just made it with AutoCAD and put in into a pic I took of my backyard. I got the idea from a 1st gen freefall. My ride has two 15-ft vertical track sections, with an airtime hill in-between. Two riders board the ride at the top, and then they are released down the short drop. They are lying on their backs at the bottom. The hill provides great negative acceleration g airtime!. Then the car continues up the second tower until gravity brings it back down. The riders will experience upside-down freefall on the descent from the second tower! The ride continues back and forth along the same track until coming to a stop on one side of the airtime hill. The riders are only held in by a ratcheting lap bar! This ride will make a great addition to the "Bench: The Ride" collection, since the seats are flat, wooden benches! -
Julie's TN State Fair Photo TR
nannerdw replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Electricity, what's that? Don't worry, not all Tennesseans are Hillbillies (but the majority of them are ). Every year I hear some pretty bad things about how redneck the TN State Fair really is. I want to go this year, but I'm afraid they might rub off on me and turn me into one of them! -
Julie's TN State Fair Photo TR
nannerdw replied to USRoadTripper's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I was debating on whether or not I should go. The fair is so expensive, with the $3 parking, $8 per-person admission, and $20 ride wristband. I have been looking on the news for the types of rides I will find at the fair, and I saw the power surge in one commercial. I have a few questions about the fair: What are the best rides there? Is it really worth paying $20 for a wristband? Can you use the wristband throughout the whole day? Are the two kiddie coasters powered, or are they real credits? -
This summer I went to SFOG twice, Dollywood, and PKI. I was most impressed with Dollywood. The scenery and music everywhere really set a great mood for the park. It reminded me a lot of Opryland. I love Thunderhead and Tennessee Tornado so much. I was actually really sad when I had to leave that park after the two amazing days I spent there. I had a great experience at SFOG the first time I was there. Unfortunately, I only went on 5 coasters the second time, due to heavy rain in the middle of the day. I spent the majority of the day sitting inside the station of Batman the Ride, waiting for the rain to clear off. When I went to PKI, I was just in a really bad mood at that time. I felt really depressed for some reason, and even the coasters did not make me feel any better. I only liked a few of their rides. Memories of that park were just depressing. Hopefully I can go back sometime in the future, so that I can actually enjoy the park. I think the main reason for my disappointment was that I had gotten too hyped up about the trip a few months before it, and then it ended up not being as great as I had expected it to be. Next year, I am planning to visit Holiday World (to ride the Voyage) and SFOG (to ride Goliath.)

I've been on the Georgia Cyclone, the mirrored clone of the original. It was a great ride, but I would not plan a trip as far away as Coney Island to ride the Cyclone. I'd prefer to go to parks where I don't have to pay per ride. Doesn't it cost something like $5 to ride it?

"Signature" Coasters
nannerdw replied to imbordisux's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Even though I haven't ridden it, I would say The Hulk is definately a signature coaster. -
My n00bish coasters were made with Scream Machines. I have put most of my tracks up on http://coastercrazy.com/track_exchange/default.asp?SortBy=&CreatedBy=1&SimID=&SearchName=nannerdw&mode=search&initial=0&submit1.x=26&submit1.y=5 By the time I got Nolimits, I had already improved my building skills. "The Juggler" has been my favorite creation so far . It was the first coaster that I actually spent months on.

Best and Lamest Coaster "Ending"
nannerdw replied to Teddymonster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best: Tennessee Tornado's ending is pretty awesome, with the blackout loops that lead into the highly banked turn and an intense pop up into the brakes. The airtime bunny hops on the return run of Magnum XL 200 were incredible! The Beast's Helix of Death The final corkcrew on Flight of Fear Worst: The Racer @ PKI- The ending was way too rough, and I did not feel any airtime. Corkcrew @ Cedar Point- After the corkscrews, you just go right into the brakes. It is way too short of a ride. -

Best coaster ride when raining
nannerdw replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My only ride on Millennium Force was in the rain. It was not a very pleasant experience having those raindrops pounding me in the face at 90+ miles per hour. I could not even open my eyes, because of the raindrops stabbing me in the face. I was in too much pain to enjoy the ride, which was pretty disappointing. I really hope that I can ride MF someday without the painful weather conditions . -
I'm really excited about this addition to the park. I don't mind that The Great Gasp had to be taken out. I rode it on the second-to-last day of operation and got the "collectible" pin. I am glad that I didn't miss my last chance to experience it, but it was still nothing special. I have planned to go to SFOG around mid-April, so I will hopefully be able to ride it. I'm hoping that the helix does not have black-out g's. I hate when I grey out on a ride. It makes me really nervous to go on a ride repeatedly and almost go unconcious every time. The only 200+ ft. coasters I have been on were all at Cedar Point, which is a 10-hour drive for me. I am overjoyed to see a hyper coaster only 4 hours away! This is one ride that I REFUSE to pass up!

How did you end up here???
nannerdw replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I found this site from a link on Weeweeslap/Coastercrazy. I started looking at the photo pages from places I had been. I thought they were so hilarious, that I decided to look at all of them. I found this site just in time, because the forums were started right after I had finished looking through the whole photo gallery. I like this site so much because all of the great inside jokes! -
"Behind the scenes"
nannerdw replied to Musical Pete's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have had a few cool experiences at at different parks that weren't really behind the scenes: I got to do the walkback for IJST when I went to King's Island. I got the last ride out on Flight of Fear @ King's Island, so I was the only person on the train. The lights were on inside the queue room with the UFO. Unfortunately, the lights were not on inside the big cylinder around most of the track. ERT on Thunderhead @ at the Dollywood ACE Spring Conference. I got to get into Dollywood an hour and a half early for Tennessee Tornado and Slidewinder ERT. It was raining like crazy that morning, so I didn't participate in the ERT. Only a few people, who didn't mind getting soaked, still went on Tennesee Tornado. I was with a group of friends, about to go on Batman: The Ride @ SFOG, when it suddenly closed due to rain. We sat in the station for about 3 hours, along with tons of other people. Eventually, all but about 15 people left from the station. We got to talk with the ride ops about the ride, which was pretty cool. When we finally decided to leave the station, we walked around the flooded park, seeing just a few people packed into random dry places. We practically had the park to ourselves for about an our once it stopped raining.
