Maurer Sohne Spinning Contest
nannerdw replied to Eric_Smith's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
Here's what I had done. It was sort of a rough outline of what I wanted to make in Elementary. I didn't want to take the time to support, though. spinner_template_156_nannerdw.nltrack -

I wonder if it will let you swim in the deep water. With all of this attention to detail, it would also be cool to see a grey-out/red-out safety indicator. A high force sustained for too long or quick change between + and - forces would cause it to turn red. -

Do the supports have to be inside the boundaries? Can the heartline be above the max height as long as the track is below it? Here's what I have done so far. I don't think this is breaking any rules. I got over 2000 feet of track to fit into just the red area. Now I'm not sure if I want to try to support all of this by next week. -

Download VLC Player. It can handle pretty much any media type. You can open the URL in VLC, or save the page to download the video. -

First of all, I can't wait for the built-in parametric equations and FVD formulas. I wonder if all of these purist hand-builders will still be complaining about the use of tools once these have been officially implemented in the editor. Based on that video, it looks like shadows will be cast on all 3ds objects. It all looks so realistic, especially the water. The walk mode thing is a pretty cool, but unnecessary, feature. It almost makes it seem more like a FPS game than a simulator. Ole should include an easter egg that lets you pull out a gun and start shooting everything -
At Kentucky Kingdom I was lucky enough to get two rides for $10. The great view at the top was the best part. The upside down freefall was a cool feeling, but not really intense like I thought it would be. Drop towers provide a much more thrilling and intense feeling of freefall IMO, but I'm glad I got to finally experience a skycoaster. It was actually a little bit nauseating to be laying on my stomach during the lift up. I would definitely go on it again, but I wouldn't pay more than $15 to do it, with the exception of the one at Royal Gorge, which looks amazing.

#53 really stands out for me. That's what got my vote. #42 also looks really good, as long as that's not photoshopped -

Google should start a theme park. I'm sure they could afford it. -

I'm hoping for a giant Screamin' Swing. (Fingers crossed) or maybe a swinging ship themed to the Mayflower. -

^ I laughed at the part where they said "Magnum XL 200 has that old-fashioned feeling of a disaster waiting to happen, but on a grand scale." I think they were actually referring to Mean Streak -
Most intense: Huss Giant Top Spin- Don't ride this unless you are a woman. I can only imagine how painful the floorless version must be. Round Up and Gravitron 2000- These make me feel really uncomfortable and give me a headache. Hurricane- The whole time it just throws you against a sharp metal bar on the outer edge of the seat. Roll-O-Plane at Lake Winnie- Ouch. It would be really fun if I didn't get bruises on my legs from being bashed against the sides during a barrel roll. Cyclops (Chance Revolution)- For some reason, it was way more intense than either of the Giant Frisbees I have ridden Most WTF flat ride: Fun, but not nearly as intense as I expected: Skycoaster Best of the best: Rock-O-Plane Zipper Skyhawk at CP- Amazing airtime, especially if you put the lapbar about 2 inches off of you! Any drop ride, except for ones that launch upward (Red side of Power Tower= boring). Intamin 1st-gen towers are especially awesome.

Coaster Count Spreadsheet Design
nannerdw replied to nannerdw's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Changes: -Added a cell in the gray area between each park to show the total number of times ridden per visit. -Added an expandable column for year ridden, which has a sort filter to show all coasters ridden in a specific year. When sorted, the number of new rides for that year appears at the top of the next column. -Moved the Top and Bottom 10 to a new sheet. Coaster Checklist 2.01.xls -
Coaster Count Spreadsheet Design

The "X" column is where I put how many times I rode a certain ride during that visit. I'll try to work on a formula that shows total rides per visit and total rides per year. I was also thinking about making a bar graph that shows parks per year and new rides per year. I think it would be pretty cool to make it link to a Google Earth map that places a "number of visits" marker on each park. -
Coaster Count Spreadsheet Design
nannerdw posted a topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ever since I started riding coasters, I have been using sites like Coaster Counter to keep track of what I have ridden, but I like to keep a more in-depth list in my own Excel spreadsheet. Right now it's organized as sort of a chronological diary of my theme park visits. In this newest version, which I'm calling Coaster Checklist 2.0, I have added a few formulas to make it more streamlined and user-friendly. Here's what I have included in the spreadsheet: -Date of park visit -Park name -Automatic running total of visits to park -Coasters ridden during visit -Column for rides that have been renamed or relocated, if you don't want to count them as new credits -Times ridden during visit -Whether the ride is new to your count. If a ride is being listed for the first time, a "Y" is automatically placed in this column. Otherwise, it shows a running total of the number of times ridden. -First experiences/Records: A space to list any new ride experiences (First coaster with a loop, etc.) -Count: shows a running total next to each new addition. Cells next to duplicate rides remain blank. -Current # of unique coasters ridden, total times ridden, # of wooden and steel, unique inversions, total inversions, distance travelled on unique coaster track, total distance travelled on track, and total # of parks and park visits (All automatic from data entry) -Top and Bottom 10 lists All of this is probably a lot more detail than most people want to include, but I have attached the spreadsheet as a guide for anyone to use. Please feel free to suggest any changes or improvements that could be made. Stratosphere's New 'Ride'
nannerdw replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It might just be me, but true freefall (like the kind you get from a drop tower that releases from a dead stop, Intamin 1st Gen towers especially) always gives me this really intense feeling that I don't get from any other kind of drop. People usually refer to it as "losing your stomach," but I feel it more in my head, like the blood is rushing to my brain. It always makes me cringe on the way down. I don't ever get this sensation from steep drops or towers that launch up or down. I think it's just your body's natural reaction to being in true freefall. -

The design on the front of the train looks more like something I would expect to see on a billboard for something like "Blue Fire Medical Group" or "Blue Fire Insurance Agency", lol. -
I guess it's not so rare since it's up on Youtube now, but I saw a picture of the Termite a few years ago (I think on the cover of an old ACE newsletter). It showed a drop off of the roof, but I have not been able to find any more information about the ride since then. 4:57 - 6:40 in the second video shows footage of the backyard coaster The rest of the video shows the Arrow Pipeline prototype, some obligatory shots of Colossus, and a few really old ride concepts. Check out 4:49 in the first video.
