Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
haiderodes replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thats a good one! How about these from my time on the WDW College Program... "Where's the bus to Disney's Islands of Adventure" "When did they stop the monorails from going to MGM Grand Studios" (this one was just wrong all over the place) "Is this Disney World?"-as asked by guest in Magic Kingdom parking lot "Where is your transportation to Universal Studios?"-as asked by guest in Magic Kingdom parking lot "Do you have any hotels here?" "What time do they start letting people in for free?" (yes he was dead serious about this question) "Where's THE Epcot?" (for some reason people think that Spaceship Earth is called Epcot and everything is inside it) "Can you hook me up with some tickets" Guest: Where can I get the monorail to Animal Kingdom? Me: I'm sorry there is no monorail service to Disney's Animal Kingdom, there is only bus service to that park. Guest: UGH...well then where can I get to ferry to get there? -

The Ride Op Workout
haiderodes replied to haiderodes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Out of my experience, one of the main reasons rides become hard/tiring is not just park policy, but the GP. Especially the GP who don't follow instructions! Seriously, how many times can you tell someone to NOT pull down on the restraint, stay behind the yellow line, keep off the handrails, quit playing with the airgates, and stay seated, etc before you get the urge to strangle them? The one that really got me was people playing with the turnstyles. That irritated the hell out of me. Ive seen kids (and adults too) do everything from swing on them to climb on them like its a jungle gym, to spin them like its the wheel on the Price is Right. -
AH this brings back memories of high school...Buying rediculous amounts of overpriced glowsticks, going to raves, people trying to "borrow" said glowsticks to never see them again...hehe. Good stuff man, you don't see too many people into that sort of thing anymore.

The Ride Op Workout
haiderodes replied to haiderodes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ah the turntable...memories. I remember working on a couple of rides with those. Turntables, water rides, and the general public can be a nasty combination. -
One of my favorite parts of visiting a park is watching the various ride crews do thier job. I guess it comes from having been a ride op a few times in my life, but its always interesting to see how each park does things differently. When I was at Knotts a couple of Saturdays ago I was standing on the exit ramp of Perilous Plunge watching the crew. Man that has to be an exahausting job! It's not just checking belts and lap bars. The guy and girl that were working were climbing all over and inside that boat adjusting, tugging, etc. Each boat had at least 2 people that couldnt ride due to thier size...all because they were two skinny suprisingly. They were working their butts off (it was cold outside but they were sweating), but it would still take like 5 minutes at least for the dispatch due to all the adjusting and checking. Not to mention the girl was wearing a Ghost Town uniform complete with a long sleeve shirt and suspenders! My question...which rides do you think or have you seen are the most tiring for a ride op?
-
yes...well on the dispatch panel that is...e-stops are always red! can you recite the spiel to Big Thunder Mountain at DL...in english and spanish?

I couldnt even tell you. It was several years ago...well before the forums were up. Its addicting, even if you aren't posting, just reading everything is great. -

Is this just a Florida thing? I had never heard of this until my WDWCP. We were looking for local clubs to go to and there was one that was girls 18+ and guys 21+(Metropolis i think it was). I always thought they did it to make sure there was a larger amount of girls to guys so it wouldnt seem like a sausage party. I've also heard of clubs that are 25+ and cater to a "more mature" crowd. Here in Vegas, everything is 21 and up and pretty much as long as you are willing to pay and dress like you have money, you'll get in. How much money you have, however, determines if you will stand in line for 4 minutes or 4 hours.

What coaster looks best at night?
haiderodes replied to kennywood!007's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm partial to California Screamin'...gotta love the way the lights trace the train as it goes though the loop! Nothing, however, beats those early morning pics of Tatsu on the night/morning of the sleep out! The ride looks total bad ass. -

When I was at Knotts last weekend, the same seats on their Boomerang kept getting stuck also...coincidence? -
Like Robb said, I think its a totally wait and see kind of thing. I'm giving Shapiro the benefit of the doubt right now. I mean, we have 17 coasters right now at SFMM, but what is the newest flat ride not including the Bugs Bunny World stuff? I'm hoping he realizes that in addition to the characters, name brand pizza, and other stuff, SFMM needs a variety of attractions that are not coasters. Just because you go after the family market doesnt mean you cant build rides. Just because you are the Xtreme Park doesnt mean you only focus on the most extreme of thrills. There has to be a middle ground. I wonder why SFMM didnt get any of those attractions from Astroworld?

Cool TR... I too was at Knotts on Saturday for the Gospel Showcase...it was very crowded most of the day. -
I was watching Season 1 of Mind of Mencia and he pretty much said the same thing... Why is it that the guys that are always worried about getting hit on by guys, are not so attractive. As Carlos Mencia put it "Gay guys are hot!"...haha

What do you hate most in a themepark?
haiderodes replied to thomas2's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Right on... Even worse is when they link hands. Needless to say a friend and I "broke up" several groups this past Friday at Disneyland that were trying to walk through crowded pathways like that. -
yes does it irritate the crap out of you when you are standing in line at a park and people dont keep up with the people in front of them making a huge gap and the line move slower?
-
wow...sounds like those guys think a lot of themselves if they think they are that irresistable.

no do you do the dew?
