The "Sören´s Way To Disney" Thread
haiderodes replied to Hattuchili's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, that Walmart behind Medieval Times is a zoo no matter what time you go. Leanne used to live a few blocks from that Walmart in the neighborhood right across the street from, "Give Kids the World" Sometimes, when we got hungry, we used to go over there and end up waiting in line for around 20 mins just to buy some snack food. Go to Target instead....(We are Target fans). Ah the Kissimmee Walmart...memories! We used to make our Wal-Mart runs at like 3a but it would still be busy. Did you know that location, as well as the "new" one are the two busiest Wal-Marts in the nation? I worked for a few weeks over Winter Break at one here in Henderson. They said ours was the third busiest in the nation! -
^^i dont think i can top that ^^

Snap...back?
haiderodes replied to Rocket Rodder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^See I knew the train skipping a dog wasnt an isolated occurance! Its an Arrow phenomenon. They probably just stopped the lift instead of an e-stop...at least that's what our manual told us to do. -
Snap...back?
haiderodes replied to Rocket Rodder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Like I, along with others, mentioned before it has to deal with the train engaging the lift at a speed higher than the chain itself. For rides that have a chain right out of the station, this is rarely an issue as the speed of the train and lift is probably similar. On the other hand you have rides like Canyon Blaster that start with a drop out of the station and into the lift, you have the train engaging the chain at a good speed (at least 10 - 15mph). This puts a lot of stress on the chain when it falls back. In fact, when I used to work at the Adventuredome, you could hear the reaction of the chain and the support structure when the train hit the lift (especially when the park was closed and it was relatively silent). Additionally, this sometimes caused the train to "skip a dog"...meaning that one of the two chain dogs would fail to engage causing the train to slip and cause a loud "bang". I would often asked maintenance why they just dont add a trim brake at the bottom of the lift. Guess its not that big of a problem to them, but for ops it was stressful to have to watch and listen for it happen as we had to stop the lift and wait for them to come and inspect the still occupied train on the lift. B&M gets around this by placing a brake along with feeder motors/wheels at the bottom of the lift to match the speed of the lift even after a drop from the station. -
^ yes i have have you ever ridden desert storm at castles and coasters?

Strongest/Most forcefull Launch
haiderodes replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm partial to Speed: The Ride's first launch. It only gets up to 35 MPH but it does it in such a small amount of space and throws you immediately into that turn. As for RNRC, as others have mentioned...it does have a launch sled. You can actually see and hear it come back toward the train. It also pulls you slightly backward before the launch. -
^^^ yes, panic! at the disco is one of my favorite bands...they are from vegas too have you ridden a coaster in 2006?

Snap...back?
haiderodes replied to Rocket Rodder's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to... Perhaps you mean the feeling that the train is slipping back down the lift a little bit when its first engaged? I think that's due to the tensioning/counterweight on the chain reacting to the force of the train engaging the lift. From my experience, you only tend to notice it on rides where the train engages the lift at a higher speed than the chain itself. Canyon Blaster at The Adventuredome is nortorius for this. -
i was just in a bad accident the first weekend in february. it was 430a heading home. all i remember was driving normally then spinning out of control toward the side of the freeway. apparently there was a jeep in the right shoulder of the freeway. its a very dark portion of freeway (US 95 near Horizon Dr next to Black Mtn for those of you familiar with Las Vegas/Henderson). the jeep had gotten into an accident with a bus but didnt have the flashers on. i still dont know what exactly happened cause you blank out when something like that happens. it was pretty intense. i was really messed up in the head for about a week after. my chest was sore from the seatbelt and i had a bruise. i also had that nasty stuff from the airbags in my throat for a while. i still i feel really wierd when its quiet..like i feel that something is gonna happen. if anything good came from it, i didnt get cited...so thats one less thing to worry about. also i just got a new car over president's day weekend. here are some pics...

^^almost always like girls...haha i thought that was a funny statement. girls have a tendency to irritate me. but then again most people irritate me so i shouldnt really blame them for that. i can't deal with crying and overly emotional people, but then again lots of people of both sexes can be that way. ok there was no point to me posting this...haha

Your favorite coaster tunnel
haiderodes replied to chavslayer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
im partial to a couple... - Desperado @ Buffalo Bills - The tunnel on the first drop...especially at night its like it swallows you up for a split second. - Big Thunder Mtn @ Disneyland - The last tunnel before the second lift. The way the track is angled it gives a good headchopper and comes up unexpectedly if you are in the back. Its really effective at night! -

^good job..I forgot that Grinder Gearworks was once Gordon Gearworks! The original Circus Wheel was indeed a Chance Trabant. It was removed during the early stages of Goliath construction and the Jolly Roger (Tilt a Whirl) was moved into that space...it just so happened to keep the name as Circus Wheel. If you get a chance to watch the opening sequence of Step by Step they show Patrick Duffy in front of the former Circus Wheel and Susan Sommers in front of what was then called Turbo. It also shows that big tent like structure they used to have in the middle of Colossus County Fair. -

^ yes that is a partial answer to one of the questions...but which one? While I'm waiting on answers for my last ones, I just thought of some more questions...got to put em down before I forget! - Name the three different queue layouts that Flashback has had since its been at SFMM - Who was the original corporate/product sponsor of Viper? - What were the two names of the nightclub that used to sit in the area currently home to Gotham City Backlot? - What was the name of the other ride removed to make space for Batman: The Ride's queue. (hint its not Z-Force). - What was the original color combination for Freefall? -
That's great that you are looking to get involved at a young age! I work as a youth coordinator for our local volunteer agency. Among my many duties, I am in charge of our youth volunteers program from high school students. May I suggest, checking out similar organizations in your school or community as they might have great opportunities to not only volunteer but to get to know some cool people. Additionally, its never too early to start thinking about scholarships! It pays to help others

Legoland Carlsbad
haiderodes replied to haiderodes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks for all the input on Legoland! I was able to recruit another friend and we decided to change gears and go to Disneyland since its the 50th anniversary and we want to see the new fireworks! We are still planning a Legoland trip for the summer when we can include it with other stuff in the area such as Sea World, etc. -
Legoland Carlsbad

That's exactly what I was thinking from looking at the website...its the type of place where you could spend a good day there. I wish I could make a whole weekend of it, but now its looking like we'll only have Sunday for a day trip and coming back Monday morning. I like coasters and thrills, but I LOVE the atmosphere of just being at a park. Perhaps Legoland is a good place? -
I've been super stressed out lately and was thinking about taking a trip to So Cal this weekend. I was thinking about a trip to someplace I've never been...ala Legoland. It seems like a cool place. For those that have been there, would it be worth the trip for a couple of college guys?
