SFMM Mark Shapiro meeting for employees
arrowfanman replied to wrs28330's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Smooth or not, Flashback is pure lame! I say, close down that whole area of the park--from the WB theatre, back to flashback, and over to the Metro station--the shut that whole back area down, and give it to Hurricane Harbor. Honestly! That would be a great addition of land for Hurricane Harbor! -

I totally get that you're simply joking about it--and for the most part, my retaliation is light hearted! Trust me! I just got serious for a moment to answer his question, in a temporary lapse of seriousness--Sorry Robb--wont happen again . -

I dont know much about this guy, but I think I like him. Yes yes yes! I know! We dont want to be too accepting of him, so early on! Everybody wants to say "I told you so" when he messes up--regardless, he has a certain optimism that you dont see with these old farts. Really, recognizing the problem is the first step--we all know that. This is a pretty strong recognition. Probably didn't cover everything, but for the most part, yes. Now, we need to see a stronger layout of his plan for acheiving such goals. My biggest fear, however, is in the years that are to come--the idea that SFMM will contradict itself. People will be asking "Is it an Xtreme Park or is it a family park?" Lol...honestly. Its not an easy transformation to make! Well, I dont really know where I'm going with this, so I think I'll just shut up and leave! -Jahan -
In Defense of DL's Castle
arrowfanman replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I honestly think that if Walt could have done it like the castle in Paris, he would have--that is, by far, the best of the castles. But maybe that somewhat has to do with the fact that it hasn't been cloned yet! hehehe. Well, for one, people aren't really bothered by the size of it! Honestly....if you went to the park, and ranted in front of the majority of people, they would agree that it's small, but they wouldn't join the fuss. Secondly, the whole park is designed artistically into proportion. One of the contributing factors to making the Magic Kingdom Castle bigger, was that their Mainstreet would be bigger--they needed a larger structure to occupy the space, to create a complete, full look. Well, we all know that Disneyland is a pretty small park! It just so happens that the castle fits perfectly into the end of Mainstreet--making it anybigger would make it over power its surroundings, which is not the intent. -Jahan "Im a freak" Makanvand -
Lol...that would make mood swings rather interesting .

Coaster Roughness
arrowfanman replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think there is no wrong answer here. To me, I think its a relationship between the trains, the track, and how often the two are serviced. -The track: For one, you have issues with rides that have very simple geometry. For example Viper, at SFMM. It looks as if they literally calculated the shape of the loop, calculated the height of the entrance to the loop, and then just "connected the dots". Its not like a B&M, which eases into a loop---Viper just "BAM" your in a loop! Then, you have a design flaw noticible on the older coasters--no heartlining. Older rides (and still some new ones) are designed around the track, not the passenger. This is bad for two reasons. One, the passenger ends up getting more whipped around. Two, it tosses the train around more than necessary, which wears out the trains quicker (and the track for that matter). Which leads us to another track reason...track deformations may have a part in it--this is more common on wood coasters, as the beams can splinter or crack under the various forces (this phonomena also falls under park maintenence... ). -The trains: Trains also share a part in the bumpiness. The wheels have to be able to bend, tilt, and twist into a wide variety of different positions to conform to the twists and turns of the track. B&M is obviously the king of this, as each row conforms in its own way. It also helps to have all wheels touching and rolling on the track, so, in case of an ejection or something, the movement will not be as abrupt. And as weird as this sounds, I personally believe that the seats are a big part of this too! The seat needs to be flexible, but firm enough to combat the forces. The position in how you sit is important to how your body is able to take a bump. And of course, how the restraint is shaped, and how you wear it matters too. B&M restraints may be massive, but they distribute the force over a farther area than a simple lapbar does! -Service and Maintenence: No matter how smooth the coaster, if not serviced properly, it will fall into disrepair, and that means, it will get bumpier. As I said, it is easy for a wood coaster's track to deform or crack. Therefore, retracking (and even restructuring) must occur, or else the ride will get bumpier. The trains and wheels also need to be serviced. Wheels can wear down, which means they lose their elasticity which act as small shock absorbers. After throwing the trains through thousands of cycles, it is easy to see how all of the moving parts can weaken, bend, and fall into disrepair. The best example of this, is X at SFMM. You can tell when was the most recent train-refurbishment by how much the seats "droop" or "sag". They do, I swear! Im no engineer, but that's telling me that something's lose. But in all seriousness, the largest factor is whether the passenger has testicles or not. -Jahan -

I dont know if this has been said or not, but all Disney theme parks in America have raised their prices, yet again. Disneyland Resort Parks: Walt Disney World Parks (from Orlando Sentinal): So feel free to bitch, rationalize, argue, and turn this into a bash-Disneyland thread, since nobody can every bring themselves around to hating WDW.

Fun with Dick and Jane B+ A pretty solid comedy, with a lot of class, compared to a lot of crap thats been coming out lately. And for a comedy, it has a somewhat interesting level of depth to it! It confronts corporate America, the american dream--even illegal immigration, which are all rather heavy themes for a comedy! Regardless, it was a great film, and I reccomend it to anyone who doesn't mind hearing an out of place, completely unnecessary F-word! Honestly, they shout out the F-bomb once, probably just to get the PG-13 label! -Jahan

I just saw Crash. Its not a new film, but was made recently. It was beautifully crafted, casted, shot--everything. At points it was hard to follow, but it was one of those movies, that in the end, you understood what they were getting at, regardless. It has some pretty heavy themes, and so I reccomend it to anyone who is mature enough. I give it a definite A+

Non-Splash Boats!
arrowfanman replied to RRollergod's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, for one, normal waterrides splash into the water. The resulting force then pushes the spash out of the water. The first thing that can be done to reduce the splash, is to elevate the boat by having it ride on wheels that rest on rails. Therefore, less of the boat will actually be in the water, and thus, you have less of a splash. The next thing that is done, is to hydro-dynamically design the bottom of the boats to funnel the water underneath and around the boats. Finally, it is traditionally the water that slows down the boats. But once you have elevated the boat a bit out of the water, you lose less speed. To ensure proper braking, they can now place either a rubber surface to ride on, or now, even magnents! You can definitely feel the difference on Splash Mountain. As you go down the drop, and enter the splash zone, you are litteral "riding" the rails in a straight line. The boat doesn't bounce or bob like it does during the normal parts of the ride. Once you reach the end, you can feel your boat dip down into the river again, and continue bobing in the water. Anyway...back on topic. Truth is, most people dont like to get wet. -
SFMM trip, need advice.
arrowfanman replied to ShoubraStreet74's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Honestly, just because the schools are out, dosn't mean the students are going! At least thats how it is here, in Valencia/Santa Clarita. We can walk to Magic, and yet nobody wants to go. I really wouldn't expect any "horrible" crowds. I went twice last week, and it was very light. -
Non-Splash Boats!

Yes, Disney also has Splash reducers on...believe it or not, Splash Mountains. But I have never seen anything covered before. -
I recently saw King Kong, and this is my review: C- to D+ ... ...you guys aren't gonna like this... (possible spoilers) I would be upset I wasted my time on this movie, if it wasn't for the fact I didn't pay for the ticket. Sorry guys! From the start, to the shipwreck, I was actually feeling the movie! I thought these key sequences helped develop likeable characters and helped forshadow events that would unfold. There was a certain charm that was absent from the LOTR movies during these early NY sequences, and I was finally feeling some of Peter Jackson's work! Now, now...we get to the Island. The natives were very weird, and the whole set up of getting Anne into the jungle is even weirder...however, I can handle that. I love POTC, so its obvious I can handle a bit of fantasy...I can. But once they were on the island, it was just too much " :? " for me to take. First off, the movie totally felt like a cheesy 70's disaster movie with cool special effects. It was non-stop death and ruin! And I am all for death and ruin, if it contributes something to the story! But after awhile, it just felt like they were killing people off because they wanted to make a "cool scene", which just ended up extending an unnecessarily long movie, even longer. Ok, so we want to show the audience that Kong is beginning to express love for Anne by physically defending her--sounds good. But we dont have to turn it into a 30 minute sequence, with 1 T-Rex turning into, like, 6, and with massive, muli-ton creatures dangling from mere vines, with tounges getting bitten off! We dont need it! He took key themes, and squashed them with these stupid, physics defying action sequences. That bug sequence felt like it wouldn't end and totally didn't contribute anything to the film, other than 10 minutes, a few near-gagging moments, and a "bug-on-Adrian-Brody's-crotch-joke." The capture of Kong was saddening, I admit. I was still able to feel sympathy for the ape. I would protest, however, that I am curious as to how they got him on the boat! But then again, I am glad they left it out, as it would have taken another hour and 45 minutes to explain it! (ouch!) Once again, when the movie returned to New York, I began to find a liking for the film. However, I didn't like the characters at this point--all three of them had been changed in a way that I found unrealistic and disapointing. Perhaps that's how I am supposed to feel--either way, I didn't like it. The Kong/Anne sequence was a well needed chance to get in a smile--but it was short lived. The last 30 minutes of the movie (I dont know if it was 30 minutes, but it was longer than it needed to be) was the classic Empire State sequence. Now I am really beginning to become confused with the actions and behaviors of all 3 characters. Kong was taken down, and the movie ended on Mr. Black's supposively thought-provoking "Beauty killed the beast" comment. Perhaps I am showing a bit of exageration and a bit of bias. However, I simply dont like films like this, and you shouldn't blame me for it. I like films with 1) happy endings, 2) a feeling of hope (for the future) at the end, or 3) A massive, self-analyzing, thought-provoking, and rather heavy theme that I can ponder over for hours (aka, Saving Private Ryan). I understand that there is death and suffering in the world--it sucks. But if I am going to pay 10 dollers, I should at least leave feeling hope for the future, if you are going to show me a film with that much death and suffering. I felt like I wasted 3-hours to simply see some stuff get killed. I literally got out of my seat and said "now what?" Im sorry I sound harsh! I have just never been watching a film in theatres and thought to myself "I really dont care how this thing ends, just end it soon". -Jahan

SFMM parking?
arrowfanman replied to lapseofreason's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If you trust the Santa Clarita public transportation, the Santa Clarita Transit station is a few blocks away from SFMM. Park there and pay the 2-some-odd-bucks-per-person to ride the transit-bus. It drops off right next too X's raven turn. But as it has been said, it would probably be easiest to simply pay the 10 bucks... ...but then again, I just got an Xtreme play pass, with free parking! -
Well, im a 14 hour drive away from my house right now, typing from Oregon. There was about a 1' by 1' patch of snow from a previous fall. Where my actual house is, it was 80, I believe.
