Best Park Areas
arrowfanman replied to Electerik's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love Adventureland, DL personally (minus the crouds), but my real favorite land would be New Orleans Square....aparently so nice, its worth campaigning for. Anyway, the little nooks and crannies are so detailed and romantic. The place has such atmosphere...I love it! -Jahan -
As for your first question, this is what I could find from John Hench, Imangineering guru... So it sounds like 90%, 80%, and something smaller than 80% (but not quite as small as 70%). Interesting that the bottom floor is 90% rather than 100%. Perhaps this is necessary to pull of the effect? As for your second question, I dont know what the ratio is, but I do know that they are trying to make a 3 1/2 story building look 2 stories tall. The building is American Adventure, and it is built with reverse perspective to make it appear closer to the entrance to the lagoon. You see, all of the other pavilions are designed with forced perspective to look 3 miles away (even though the lagoon is only 1/2 a mile across). American Adventure, however, is designed to appear closer than the other pavilions. That is why they have reversed the technique. Here's a quote from my source, some architecture essay... Link to a catche of the essay by Google. As for your third question, I'm not entirely sure. According to that essay, there is a technique they used in the Canada section, in which a 3 story building is designed to look 9 stories. You might want to look into it...its just missing the ratios themselves. I hope I was able to help in some way! -Jahan

Phew! Thanks for the translation! Well, it looks like you guys actually had quite a bit of fun, which is rare at SFMM! Shame you didn't have any pictures of any good rides. *cough* Riddler's *cough* BTW...California Screamin' is the best parkinglot coaster . Even if it was trimmed. -Jahan -
Family Coasters That Pack A Punch
arrowfanman replied to Lord Kotowa's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I cant say that I've been on a forcefull family coaster, however, there are some Disney coasters that come to mind...not because they are forcefull, but rather, because they really know how to work the forces on the ride. For example, Big Thunder Mountain has some real good ejector airtime in the back seat! The turns on Space Mountain produce these cool G-Force tricks---they dont feel like they pull on your body too much, but they certainly pull on your stomach. CA-Screamin, before the trims was very powerful...even now, after the trims, the forces are noticible. Then you have Universal Hollywood's Mummy, which is a family coaster in my honest opinion--that ride has a very forcefull launch, and even though the actual ride part kinda just meanders through some turns, you get some cool banking "whips"...once again...not forcefull, but cool g-force tricks! -Jahan -
Yea...I'm not going to bother with the "future projects" questions. As tempting as it is. How about this... "How do you feel about the whole coaster enthusast community? Do you look at them and smile in glee or think of them as geeky 'trekies', and for what reason?" -Jahan "Its a stretch, but I'd like to hear the reaction!" Makanvand

Need some help with TPR streaming video
arrowfanman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, I'm a greedy little bastard, so I prefer both streaming and download. See, when people post video trip reports, I prefer to stream--its more convenient and I dont have to feel bad for wasting 5 minutes of downloading time if the video is crap. Even if it isn't crap, there are somethings I dont need to keep on my desktop. For example Robb, I loved your Tatsu testing video, but I wont need it once the videos with people begin to come out....so I prefer streaming here. And downloading is good for when I want to save something, as a reference. -Jahan -
Jaws 12....you know, the one from Back to the Future II. -Jahan "Uh oh...now somebody's going to do a BttF poll!" Makanvand.

Hurricane Harbor Polar Plunge
arrowfanman replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Alright folks! I pretty much just got the confirmation that I will indeed be attending the actual event! Sign me up for Team Theme Park Review, please! There...now the team isn't just freaky adults...its freaky adults and teenager. Come on kids! We needs some more representatives from the "we aren't going to fall over and die any time soon" division! If you aren't going to go for the fun, then go for the cause. And if you aren't going to go for the cause, then go for the fun. A bajillion of you live in SoCal, so I need to be seeing more people on this team! I dont care if you have "a thing." Honestly, what do you need to be doing at 9am on a Saturday morning? I know that the prospect of sleeping in after a week of work/school sounds appealing, but going to Hurricane Harbor, and perhaps hopping over to SFMM around mid-day for a cause as worthy as this will be so much more satisfying! I mean, I do work at the Riddler's Revenge and I'm sure something can be arranged for all of the participants...wink, wink. -Jahan -

I probably rode it like, five years ago, and I didn't really find it to be that bad! I didn't even come back thinking "bumpy". Times change though. -Jahan
