Thanks for the fun trip report! Its a shame I wasn't working that day...I mean, I'm a lead at Atom Smasher (the one with all of the employees standing around at panel and talking to each other instead of checking the units). Oh well. I'll see you next time. Or perhaps at DCA! As soon as I get out of debt for purchasing an AP, I'll make my way down there! And sorry about the shorts! -Jahan

Yea...the reason Six Flags raised their price of parking, is because, well...they can. Parking is usually one of those costs that people dont remember to look into. They figure its 7-10 bucks. So when they drive an hour to get to the park, only to find that parking is 15 bucks...what are they going to do? Turn around and drive home, for an hour, with the kids crying in the back? No. They curse beneath their breath as they fork out 15 dollars. -Jahan

I have actually heard.... -"Will I die on this ride?" -"Please dont die....do you know how much paperwork I'd have to do!" I have also been at the Riddler's Revenge (not working) and heard: "Load is clear, unload is clear, stand clear. ....stand clear. ....stand clear. ....Dispatch, push your button. ...push it." ~At this point, the guy at Dispatch pushed the button....The red one. ~ "...Ugh...stand clear Riddler's Revenge track area, resetting ride. Reseting lift. ...Both sides are clear, stand clear. ...Dispatch. GREEN button." At that point, the other operator on the load side actually went to the back of the station and, seemingly "taught" dispatch to push the right button at the right time. I later found it he was an international worker. ...good times. -Jahan

^ Its not just the pain, which is rather crappy. They block your view, restrict your movement, lower capacity, weigh down on you...they're just lame. -Jahan

Matt Ouimet (DLR President) Resigns
arrowfanman replied to mb425's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Depends on what you think "the job" was. Because as far as the people above him are concerned, he made money. Money is good. Look Joey, I'm not saying he made all the right moves. He clearly didn't. He pulled the rug out from beneath the group who would make the least noise as they fall...the castmembers. And yes, he's overrated, but then again...what in Disney isn't. All I'm saying is I think he had a good run. So no need to persist Mr. Super-visor. -Jahan -
Matt Ouimet (DLR President) Resigns
arrowfanman replied to mb425's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, I'm not trying to justify his actions in any way...rather finding excuses... ...but you have to remember, Ouimet came from the Disney Cruise Line. He had a different relationship with the workers there than the workers here. Why? Because the majority of cruiseline employees are international labor. And, they treat a "job" much differently than Americans would. Makes it easier for management to take advantage of workers. It was that transition that he didn't quite make, successfully. -Jahan -
Damn! It looks like I missed a totally awesome dart party!!! Stupid Canada! Did you try to flip the Olive Dip at Spumonies or did you leave that to the experts? -Jahan

Testing Theme Park Review iPod Videos!
arrowfanman replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Personally... While having a portable TPR series or other coaster videos on an iPod would be a, cute novelty, I dont see how there is a real need to have them. I never download a video in iPod format when there is another PC version available. I cant really see them being used for fresh entertainment. More for "rewatching the same segments in a meager attempt to stop being bored". And frankly, even low-tech users such as myself have access to free software that could convert the material, if need be. I'm not saying people wouldn't download it if you offered it! I just think it wouldn't be worth your time, effort, and money to invest in them...especially when we could do it ourselves if we really wanted it. -Jahan -
Matt Ouimet (DLR President) Resigns
arrowfanman replied to mb425's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ouimet did a lot of good for Disneyland. He not only stopped a lot of the BS caked on by previous management, but was able to reverse and revive a lot of Disneyland. He oversaw the 50th celebration (the largest marketing success in, well, the history of theme parks), and while he didn't quite ensure a successful future, he put the resort on track to ensure a successful future. His decision to leave is probably more on a level which any of us would look for a job on--how will the job better him and his family. I'm sure he'll be making more money, and that he will like the location of his new job more (I hear he didn't really like it in California). As for Mr. Grier...I was very pleased to hear we will be getting Mr. Grier! I have heard nothing but positive comments about, not merely TDLR's parks, but their operations too. And there's no doubt that, while DLR has tremedous CM's, they could always use a little TLC and some elbow grease. And hopefully this guy could squeeze us some more funds too...I'm sure he's used to working on a larger budget. -Jahan -

Retro PTR - Sea World 1985
arrowfanman replied to CoasterFanatic's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
*Lowers socks* ...What?! Thanks for the nice PTR! I love these! That first dolphin has got some serious air there! He's in for the worst belly-flop ever! Thanks for posting! -Jahan -
I admit, since this threads conception, I never thought to click on the link until now in another lapse of boredom. I regret that. Amazing. Absolutely amazing. Congrats on conjuring up some fine work here! As for cost cutting! You just did the work of an ARMY of Imagineers, all by yourself! If thats not cost cutting then I dont know what is! -Jahan

I would build forwards and test as you go, if you know what I mean. Gravity affects models differently than real coasters, so building it to the exact scale wont achieve the desired effects. But looks good! -Jahan

Name chosen for new BGE coaster?
arrowfanman replied to Jon Sabo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I actually really like that name. Just seeing it next to the posted image makes me hope great things from the ride. ...beats the hell out of Maverick. -Jahan -
^ Good thinking. Perhaps they're going to borrow a few cobwebs from Flashback. Anyway, I should have a fully update soon, but FreeFall is really gearing up to reopen, no lie. They're already looking into assembling a crew to operate it, and another car has showed up on site. Also, I was explictly told that "Circus wheel's next on the list after Freefall". I even saw brand new painted floorboards for Circus wheel backstage. So there are two more SBNO's we can soon cross off the list. Skytowers back. Thill Shots back (or soon). Orients coming soon. Freefalls coming soon. Circus Wheel is to follow. Metro is just dead. Flashback will be the only remaining. -Jahan

Coaster Dynamix Model
arrowfanman replied to pupkick's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I hear some people have also been able to define a nice substitute for the support-tubing. Its PVC pipe, but I forget what size....obviously much cheaper, and can be painted to whatever you want. -Jahan -
Go to Disneyland.

Yea, definitely BYOW...bring your own water. They dont follow this silly little law which requires a source of water to be provided. They provide you with ice. Now ice is nice and cool and is also H20, but it isn't refreshing, renourishing, and helpful the way good ole' water is. So bring your own water. Joey's unfortunately right about the drama, but I have always been one to avoid it and continue to be. Exept Laura wont stop bugging me for "talking to werid people", but whatever. So if you are one to avoid drama, you should be good. -Jahan
