  1. I disagree on that one. I would rank good GhostRider above Twisted Colossus.
  2. Keep in mind that NONE of the CCI's have held up well without extensive work done to them.... Basically, you got what you paid for with CCI.
  3. You're 100% right, but even 8,9,10 year old kids enjoy coasters. I'm not asking for the entire park but just adding Flight Deck would make this much more appealing for older kids, plus B&M inverts can absolutely haul in cold weather (Batman at Great Adventure tried to kill us during Holiday in the Park, lol) Having 1 coaster open is a bit underwhelming. I agree with you 100% about the demographics changing for Holiday events but a second coaster makes this much more appealing... not just for thrill seekers, but for families with older kids. You would honestly be surprised how many kids are scared of roller coasters. Opening one more coaster isn't suddenly going to make a family decide to visit. They'll open more rides next year if they find the event to be a success---no need to risk it now with something so far from what they are targeting.
  4. If you pay attention to the company, you will notice a string of cutbacks happening, most visibly from entertainment. Cutbacks happen when money is being drained. And Shanghai is coming into the home stretch, sucking money fast to finish the park. Or it could just be cutting back to meet the actual crowd demands of the park? This is technically the slower time of the year...
  5. Lets keep this discussion on track please. No need for silly insults.
  6. The old Kong used to break down. A lot. The tore it down a decade ago. Deal with it Fun fact: The track is connected to the ceiling of the building. The tagging in the queue is still there in back of house areas too.
  7. I don't know if they have been efficient. That's a lot of motors!
  8. The Dick Tracy Crime Stoppers attraction looked cool. Indiana Jones ride vehicles+shooting dark ride!
  9. The Garden Grove version of Great Wolf Lodge opened last week... Sounds like it was a rough opening. They had to give $150 credits for everyone and free night on a future stay because they weren't ready. Long check in lines, maintenance issues, and other things were reported on the initial yelp reviews.
  10. I don't know why, but I do vaguely remember there being some controversy around the lights they sold. Maybe I am mistaken and the controversy was that they were spares and not actually used as they stated?
  11. It made me immediately not want to read the article because it's focusing on the super nerds, not the ones who just want to have fun. I'm sure ACE would go bananas over this article, though. The three people they focus on I the article actually seem pretty normal compared to who you mention. But I do agree - That sentence really paints a negative picture. The rest of the article is pretty good I'd say! One of them called SFMM a roller coaster mecca, so they are definitely not normal...credit whores and fans of mediocre (Twisted Colossus notwithstanding) rides perhaps, but definitely not normal.
  12. Unless they change the braking profile, the ride will only end up being marginally better...because you're not bashed to hell anymore. But the trimming most certainly was not Anton's original design that people may have rightfully got excited about.
  13. The Royals and Mets would both beg to differ. Lots of good homegrown talent for them as well.
  14. I seem to recall Disney got caught and even admitted this was the case. I will have to google to try and find more info.
  15. They did once sell Christmas lights as "electrical parade" lights even though they weren't...
  16. Just a hunch: the target market for X-mas events are not thrill seekers. Seems like they loaded up on things families will enjoy...which is a great way to make lots of money in this industry.
  17. ^The models that operate in the U.S. are from legitimate manufacturers with tons of regulation. Anything is possible with a chinese knock off..
  18. Yeah, MGM plans to charge for valet too. So they'll be costing their valet guys tips. It makes sense on nights there are events at the arena, but it's probably bad for them in the long run.
  19. The "boat ride" looked like Disney's take on Spiderman to me...
  20. 600 PPH totally smokes Xcelerator's capacity though, so that may not be much a problem for a park like Knott's. ??? Xcelerator has a capacity of 1,300 PPH, according to both RCDB and Wikipedia. I don't think that a ride with half the PPH "totally smokes" Xcelerator in capacity You haven't seen it operate, have you?
  21. There are members/readers that are active designers in the industry. They just don't have time to post because they are busy working... You can most definitely be involved with some aspects of roller coaster design with just technical knowledge...but you are also most certainly not designing any piece of the structure without the proper engineering credentials.
  22. So what's everyone's thoughts on MGM announcing that they will begin charging for parking? I actually switched my allegiance from MGM properties to Total Rewards because the principle of further gouging the guests (resort fees are already bogus) to try and make up revenue lost from poor management just irks me...
  23. It's a fairly common practice in the industry...you can do all the renderings you want, but until you do the color test in the field, you can't get a true feel of how it is going to look.
