  1. The original "California" theme went over about as well as Epcot's original "Educational" theme. When something is broken, you fix it. I will say that I feel that their keeping the name "California" Adventure was a mistake, but quite honestly, I felt like that theme was pretty much gone when they started doing the re-theme and adding it rides like Little Mermaid, Toy Story Mania and Carsland. Yeah...it's very Strange how Disney is treating DCA. They spent all this money trying to unify the look of the park to be "old timey" California, yet the attractions they build are brand based attractions that have nothing to do with California aside from their facades (TSM & Mermaid) and the loose connection to route 66 with Carsland.
  2. I agree. I won't miss the ride. Only thing I'm not a fan of is it will be out of place until the rest of the Marvel land pops up.
  3. I would put Forbidden Journey and Transformers in their own unique category...they are definitely not typical "motion simulator" attractions, despite being screen based.
  4. At this point, there is probably a study out there that says roller coasters are bad for your health because of the G-forces. Everything is going to kill us and everything is going to make us healthier depending on who is funding the study...
  5. ^If it's anything like the beaches here, you'll catch enough magikarp for gyrados by the end of the day. Near water they seem to be the most common spawn!
  6. I just felt like quoting this because...ELISSA ATE NORMAL FOOD!!! (that's how you know a restaurant is good)
  7. I believe every Six Flags park did that. I love seeing so many parks and businesses utilize the craze to their advantage...everybody wins: the players and the businesses.
  8. Tim Burkhart might lie about some things (Revolution), but one thing I think he is right about is the ROI on flat rides...it just isn't there for a park in a market like SFMM.
  9. Usually parks marketing teams are woefully behind the times, so it is great to see everyone jumping on the Pokemon Go bandwagon.
  10. ^^I'm not sure you can blame park executives for the VR. I'm going to guess Six Flags got a fat check from Samsung and the VR was forced upon them as a result. Also, if you're annoyed by people on their phones in 2016...you're going to end up in the hospital with the worlds largest ulcer or something. I'm with you on people needing to be aware of their surroundings, but I have no problem with people enjoying themselves playing a silly game on their phones. One that actually encourages people to be physically active. So perhaps you really should not care and continue caring about the things that matter to you instead...
  11. ^^Or perhaps they are locals with ridiculously cheap passes and excited to have a new reason to visit the park besides the same things they've done over and over and are doing exactly what you ask of them (enjoying a day with their family and friends)...
  12. I have to give props to Funspot in Orlando...they had minimal staff, but the ride operators were running from ride to ride to make sure everyone (there were probably 10-20 people in the park at the time) got to ride what they wanted as much as they wanted.
  13. I actually think Busch Parks Lure-a-thon promotion for today is a BRILLIANT idea. It's going to cost them a couple hundred bucks to buy enough lure's to last a whole operating day, but I have no doubt it will bring hundreds (if not thousands) of guests to all their parks.
  14. I miss Everland's 1/2 punch of Eagle Fortress and T-express
  15. ^^So the developers shouldn't be able to cash in on the popularity of the game? From someone digging through the code of the game, it seems like McDonald's will be the first company with a promotion lined up.
  16. The moral of the story is that if you give an idiot a tool that enables them to be an idiot, you can rest assured they will be an idiot. Not everyone will be able to use the tool properly. It's the person, not the game. Just like we will continue to love and enjoy roller coasters and not blame the coaster after people die on or near them because they didn't follow rules...
  17. You realize you are posting on a theme park message board, right? That's something in itself that would make the majority of people go "wait, what?" People will do stupid things regardless of whether or not the game existed. In fact, you can argue the game is just helping weed them out at a quicker rate. I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before, but it is kind of cool. Every single area I've seen where people congregate for Pokemon, it's been nothing but people socializing over something they are enjoying. Kudos to all the theme parks striking while the iron is hot and participating in the phenomenon, since it encourages people to visit new places and get out and walk. I visited USH with a friend and took the studio tour...I'd say 3/4 of the tram was playing the game for the opportunity to go in an area they wouldn't normally be able to in order to catch pokemon. There's even a gym on the backlot that I am sure USH employees are constantly fighting over.
  18. Yes. I believe it is $30-50 to upgrade for the day. Also, Secret Life of Pets set the record for original franchise animated movie opening with $103 million, so....
  19. I'm not surprised at all. Pokemon is something that was a part of millennials childhoods...now we get a chance to have stupid fun wandering around catching pokemon. The game itself doesn't have much to it, and people will probably lose interest if they can't get the servers stable and add new features, but until then it's a great way (IMO) to pass time and explore places. I went back to the Santa Monica pier for the first time in ages because of the game. Well, that and Steak and Shake, but still.
  20. Anyone else hopelessly addicted to this game? Theme parks seem to be hot spots for pokemon and pokestops.
  21. The street performers stay for the Hoedown at 5:30 and then they go home. The Calico stage Circus of Wonders show is at 9:00 and it's sort of an extension of GTA (the circus comes to town). There are bands (jazz, swing, soft rock) that play right across from the Boardwalk Circle fountain in the evening leading up to CoW. Still a bummer that a "ghost town" is only alive until 5:30 (except for Haunt of course). It would have been awesome to have a separate set of night time characters out that have a different personality and show what happens when the sun goes down. The day time stuff is awesome and really adds character to the area/tons of awesome interactions with guests.
  22. Lets get this discussion back on track.... It didn't hit me until looking at the KBF show schedule that Ghost Town Alive only runs until 5:30. Do they do anything at night?
  23. ^Cleveland's entire rotation has been pitching out of this world since June.
  24. Please follow all park rules. Leave food in your car and go get it when you are hungry (that's why they have the picnic area in the parking lot).
  25. ^That really is a dick move. You would think that would be programmed into the magic band data, but still...wow. Dick move. I don't think I've ever seen a ride be "firing on all cylinders" so early into its life. Hard to judge anything about an operation with such a small sample size where things ALWAYS improve. Like Robb said, the videos and photos I saw had full boats too, so it sounds like the normal ebbs and flows of opening a new attraction to me...
